I can't write a review for an app I got as a gift

My brother sent be an app for my birthday and it was super. I wanted to write a review but I got a message that said I had to either own or have downloaded the app.
But I have downloaded and I own it.
Anybody know why I can't
Thanks

I have the same problem with 2 other apps from the same developer, in my case Restaurant Story and Fashion Story. No problems with other apps. That means something... TeamLava is the culprit.

I cannot write a review for an app in the App Store. Every time I try, there's a message popping out saying " in order to write a customer review for this item, you must have purchased or downloaded it first". But I already downloaded the app. Please help.
P.S The app was Mathletics.

• Can't write a review for an app I downloaded

I downloaded 'Hospital Story' and want to write a review. I've tried both on my iPhone and MBP. It won't let me write a review stating that I first need to purchase the app. I am currently playing the game on my iPhone, and when I log into iTunes on my MBP it shows downloaded. Any ideas?
Thank you

• HT201991 How does one write a review for an app?

I would like to write a review for an app I bought from the App Store.
"Locate the item that you would like to write a review for."
Where? In the App Store via the internet (e.g. on my iMac), OR via the App Store button on my iPad Mini?
"Click "Write a Review" in the Customer Reviews section."
How? I could find no active link associated with the Customer Reviews section once I had located the item for which I wanted to write a review.
So the question remains "How does one write a review for an app?" … and, so far as things stand, the instructions provided in the page <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3928> are, as far as I can tell useless. Certainly, the Apple website and associated instructions have become, for this long-time user, more akin to Microsoft Windows in their impenetrable lack of intuitive, user-friendly ccharacter.
Oh yeh. To add to my 'disgruntledness' … How come there is no iPad Mini option in the Product drop down below?
Where is Steve Jobs when you need him?!

I have been having this issue for months, now--at least 3-4. I updated my credit card info on my account, thinking maybe that would do it, but NOPE--can't review a single thing I've ever purchased in iTunes--not from my iPhone 5, PC or iPad 2. Ridiculous, at this point...just remove the ability to review at all, if this is how it's going to be. SO frustrating.

• Why my full name appears when I write a review for an app?

When I write a review for an app, my full name appears! I would like to use a pseudo but it seems that I can't!
Does somebody have/had the same problem?

I just wrote a review to see what happens. The name under your review will be the same name as it appears in this forum. Only way to change that is to create a new forum account with the name you would like to appear in the reviews.

• Can't Write a Review On Mac App Store

I purchased an application on the Mac App Store and I would like to write a review but it won't let me saying that "To review this app, you must have purchased it from the Mac App Store". I did purchase my app from the Mac App Store. Has anyone else had this happen or know how to get it working?
Thanks,
Rob

Thanks for your reply.
I do it on my iPod. In the App Store's description of the app, at the bottom just below the screenshots, I tap the button that states the number of reviews currently posted as to go read them, then I tap "Write a review". When I did it I was asked for my password, which I entered, then I was asked for a pseudonym, as none had yet been created. I provided the same as here (I want to use the same in both places), then I typed my message (number of stars, title, message), and tapped "Send".
Now, I have proof this has nothing to do with the app's manufacturer, as it's all handled and managed by Apple's App Store. I tried doing the same again today but for another app, the Convert Units for Free app, which I'd just downoaded. This is an app for which there are 4 reviews posted as of yesterday, and 2 as of today, for a total of 298! So this app does receive reviews, unlike the other one. So I tapped "Write a review", and, this time, I wasn't even asked for my password! The Pseudonym line didn't appear either. I wrote my review (chose a numer of stars, wrote a title, then the text), then tapped "Send". I wasn't asked for my password then either. Same **** result as yesterday! Now when I come back and tap "Write a review" again, it brings back what I wrote. Same result when I tap "Send" again.
So then, I went back to the iBig Ben Pro app, went into the reviews, and tapped "Write a review". My review for that app came back in the editor! Complete with my pseudonym on the Pseudonym line! I tapped "Send" again, and still the same result.
In between these two experiences, I tried tapping "Write a review" for an app I hadn't downloaded. It asked me for my password, as it did for the first app described here after I'd downloaded it. I didn't proceed further.
This is really odd, and I think I'll take the concern to the Apple Store in the mall across the street (I heard the guys there are eager to answer our questions). Not that I don't appreciate the answers I get here, quite the opposite, but I'd get to show an Apple person what happens before his eyes, which can't be done here.

• I can't write a review on the App Store. When I try it says I have to download or purchase the app first even if I already have it. What can I do?

I have tried to write reviews for both temple run 2 and tiny monsters and they both didn't work but I just thought it was because the review was too long so I tried it again with a shorter review but it still didn't work and then just on a random other app that I didn't really want to review and it still didn't work. Can anyone please help me, Thanks.

Make sure you are signed into the account that purchased it. If the app is on your phone but you are signed into an account that didn't purchase it then it won't let you review the app.

• HT201991 Everytime I tried to write a review for an app, my iPhone keep asking me to put in my passwords. What can I do about that?

What can I do? Why is my I phone not letting me write reviews on apps I downloaded?

• HT2001 Can't write review for any apps. It keeps repeating to ask you for password, and it never goes through.

Everytime I try to write a review for an app the App Store keeps barraging me with Apple ID/Password requests. It will accept my password and run for about 2 minutes and ask me for it again. One review, which didn't go through, asked me for my password three times.

If that is correct, updating your system software may help the review issue.

Or open System Preferences > Software Update and click Check Now.

• Since purchasing my iPhone 5 one year ago, I'm unable to leave reviews for any app

I purchased my iPhone 5 one year ago. Since then I can't leave a review for any app. I contacted iTunes & they said it was the particular app. However, it's every single app. I can't leave a review for any at all. What's up? Is there something that's turned off in my settings?

I deleted the app multiple times, and restarted my phone, I even did a complete restore...nothing worked, UNTIL I changed my password once again...I had changed my password 3 times in an attempt to get it to work, and not until I changed it for the fourth time last night did the app finally accept my new credentials
It was such a goofy bug, but I'm glad to be rid of it...thanks all!

I have the same problem with another TeamLava app, Fashion Story.

• HT204266 Can't write review for any apps. It keeps repeating to ask you for password, and it never goes through.

Recent, I have a few apps having problems. I just want to write it on the apps review. I go to the reviews of the apps, and click write a review. First it will pop-up a box with my Apple ID already on the box where I just need to enter password. After I entered password, it will pop up another message box to request me password. This time it also says, "AOL members can sign in using their AOL username and password." Then I click the "Sign In" button on the bottom to enter password again. Then it will just pop up the "AOL" message box again, and I just repeating the same procedure. I tried to input different password. It will reply the password is incorrect immedicately. Thus, I can't write review for any apps now.
I wonder this may happend since the last update of the IOS, and then I have a few apps encoutered problems.

Any idea what might be wrong and whats the cause of these errors and is it safe to ignore these errors if not what is the work arround. As I already looked at the below post but I don't find */var/tmp/wlstTemp* on my machine as suggested in the post below.
