I cannot access certain seemingly random sites, help appreciated
Hello,
I am having trouble accessing certain sites on my macbook pro 15" retina display. I am running OS X Mavericks 10.9.
For now the websites that I am having trouble accessing are hotmail.com, which is annoying, and clamxav.com, which is random. The websites themselves are not down, I have checked.
This is now a browser issue, I have checked on firefox and safari and chrome.
I have cleared all data on all browsers, this is not the issue.
I have tried on different networks, this problem is still persistent.
I have done a virus scan with clamxav, downloaded from app store, and have not found anything so far.
I don't have peerblock or any similar application installed, this is a fairly new computer.
I have reset my DNS and tried setting custom locations in network settings to no avail.
I have restarted the computer, no change. There is no change in the guest account even though there are basically no apps installed.
I have tried typing host www.hotmail.com into terminal and it returns:
www.hotmail.com is an alias for dispatch.kahuna.glbdns2.microsoft.com.
dispatch.kahuna.glbdns2.microsoft.com has address 65.55.157.147
dispatch.kahuna.glbdns2.microsoft.com has address 65.55.157.172
Which I think is normal
This was a problem with my previous macbook as well, please let me know if you have any suggestions. I have tried quite a few things but don't consider myself an expert by any means.
I appreciate any feedback or suggestions,
Thank you
Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than Network connectivity tests, as per the following screenshot:
... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

Hi,
When did you make the purchase? Can you try signing out of the CC desktop app, and then signing back in?
I'll see if I can get direct support sent your way as well. How much longer are you available for this evening? We can communicate directly as well if you prefer.
regards,
steve

Cannot access certain web sites through Airport Extreme Base Station
I use the old (round) Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS). Approximately three weeks ago I could no longer connect to americanexpress.com or to Godaddy or their mail servers. About a week ago the Godaddy sites started working again, but the American Express sites are still not working.
My current setup:
- AEBS connected to Time Warner New York cable modem
- Three Airport Express units - two connected to speakers, and one set up with WDS to provide Ethernet access to computer (PowerMac G5), which is in a separate room from cable modem
- I also have an Airport card in my G5 to connect directly to the wireless network (but that doesn't solve any of my problems)
I have tried resetting all the units, and have also tried running the network with all the Airport Express units turned off, none of which as allowed me to access American Express.
I have the exact same problems with my work-issued Windows 2000 laptop when logged in to the wireless network.
When I plug a computer directly in to the cable modem, I have no problem accessing any of the sites, which leads me to believe that the solution somehow lies with the AEBS - I just can't figure out what it is.
Any help/suggestions are much appreciated.
PowerMac G5, 23" Cinema Display, Airport Extreme Base Station (802.11b/g) Mac OS X (10.4.9)If you're having trouble with throughput performance or just connecting to some websites, try changing the MTU value, on your Mac, to 1492. (The default value is 1500.) To do so, you can use a utility, like Cocktail or via OS X's Terminal.
MTU will vary with connection type. Cable and non-PPPoE, can use up to 1500, whereas PPPoE connections (WinPoet, RASPPPOE, Enternet, etc.) can only use up to 1492. For secure VPN connections (i.e., IPSec) use a MTU value less than 1500.
The best value for MTU is that value just before the packets get fragmented. To test, use the Ping utility.
OS X: ping -D -s 1472 www.dslreports.com
WinXP: ping -f -l 1472 www.dslreports.com
Reduce 1472 by 10 until you no longer get the “packet needs to be fragmented” error message. Then increase by 1 until you are 1 less from getting the same error message. Add 28 more to this (since your ping packet size, not including IP/ICMP header is 28 bytes). This will be your MaxMTU. (Note: If you can ping thru at 1472, stop, you’re done! Add 28 and your MaxMTU is 1500.) -
Cannot access certain web pages using ANY browser (when other systems can)
(As [BDAqua|http://discussions.apple.com/profile.jspa?userID=528118] noted, this issue may be separate from [that which Alexander Solo is experiencing|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1467311], though many aspects are the same or very similar. I've mostly copied my original post in that thread to this new one).
I'm having trouble accessing a handful of particular web pages/domains, from my Mac Mini G4, using Safari (latest), Firefox (latest), Camino, Opera, Mozilla, IE, OmniWeb... I've tried every browser I have. It's really a problem as I'm taking a course in Web App Development now where we need to be able to access a course site which uses the code we are learning... and I can't because the page just doesn't load. There are lots of other students in the program using Macs, even members of the course team... I'm the only one who can't load that page.
Anyway, a seemingly-random few sites just don't load for me, consistently... some of them are important to me, others not so, but one is critical and it's been driving me bonkers. It's not a router issue, since it doesn't matter where I'm plugged into the router and my wife's Dell notebook (Vista) accesses any of these pages (when she has it here). A friend of mine was also able to access them, both from his house and plugged into the same router as I was, at the same time (Dell notebook/XP Pro).
A few of the pages that won't load:
(The course web page... other https pages at the Open University load fine, though, so it doesn't seem to be an https issue.)
http://www.hotmail.com quickly redirects twice, stopping at:
[http://login.live.com/?id=2] ... and then does nothing... I don't use Hotmail, but my wife sometimes tries to access it (or was trying) if she leaves her notebook at work.
I also can't load any page on the versiontracker website:
[http://www.versiontracker.com] ... that is really a drag for me.
There are a few, seemingly random, other sites that just don't load and haven't been loading for about a couple of months now. I don't know if I might have installed some bad app or something (I've checked and my system is negative for the DNSChanger trojan... not that I've ever visited pr0n sites... ).
The problem has persisted through re-boots of the system and the router. I've tried booting from a firewire backup drive (I believe that one was still pre-security-release 2008-002, but otherwise nearly the same) and the problem persisted in all browsers. I've tried terminating processes that I didn't think were necessary to be running. I've tried fixing permissions, running diagnostic/repair apps, anything and everything I could think of. When attempting to find a solution on Google, I found a number of other mainstream news sites and such which also didn't load (at all), even after several minutes, but I haven't ; and of course trying to find mention of the problem in a Google search yields waaay too many irrelevant hits to have yielded an answer. I'm starting to suspect malware, since the problem doesn't make any sense and, if a culprit wrote something to do this, in addition to the "random" sites, they might block certain sites where we might find answers. I found a few more sites which didn't load (news sites and such) when I was doing a run through what Google could come up with. One of significance was:
[CNET's news.com domain|http://www.news.com> ... Though I haven't had a chance to have another local user check, it seems to fit the pattern of the others (doesn't load in Safari or Firefox, etc) and doesn't load even if I use the IP address: [216.239.113.101|216.239.113.101]
In short: It sounds like just the same [problem Alexander Solo is having|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1467311], except that I can access the site he can't, so it's not a situation where we can say "technology x is running on these sites and our pre-Intel Macs don't like it."
In short, I've tried everything I could think of to troubleshoot this problem (drive utilities, searches for known malware, terminating unnecessary processes, re-starting my system and router... so any help or ideas would be most appreciated.
--LowellI should add something which may indicate that I'm experiencing two separate issues: when it comes to news.com, versiontracker.com and other sites I've been unable to access, it's never seemed to matter whether I try to access a particular page on the site or the site root.
In the case of my course website, however, I'm able to at least partially load the course chair's (more-or-less empty) "home page" at the site root. It may be that packets from other people trying to access the site are not following anything like the same route, but I really know very little about all that. I had anticipated being completed moving to Bristol (England) by now (most of the other students on this "correspondence" course are in England), but my Mac is still sitting in Frankfurt, Germany. In any case, what loads of the site root, loads verrrrry slowly. Following is output of an attempted "traceroute" to the IP (a second attempt followed the same pathway with similar results):

I'm no "IT-guy", so I'm not really sure how to interpret what's happening, but I'm *beginning to suspect* this could be *related (similar in some way) to [the issues some Mac users were having accessing the Crate and Barrel website*|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1400045&start=50&tst art=0] (before Crate and Barrel resolved things on their end).
I'm also beginning to suspect that the *versiontracker.com and news.com siteload issues are related* to each other as I've found I can get successful ping (0% loss) and traceroute results, even if neither site loads in my browsers.
Following is the *traceroute for versiontracker.com* (which I see, now, is also a CNet-hosted site):

Since my wife's (Vista) Dell notebook can access these sites from the same router (and I was able too for a while), I'm beginning to suspect that the issues may have started with my update to OS X 10.4.11 or the first security update. It has been quite a while since we've successfully been able load Hotmail (in any browser) on this machine. My smug "Mac guy" superiority is taking a serious hit with these issues... -
Unable to access certain ports over Site to Site VPN
We have a client that has a Cisco 1801W Firewall that is setup as a site to site VPN terminating to a Cisco ASA 5505. The tunnel is up and established, I can ping from both sides of the tunnel.
The problem is the clients behind the Cisco ASA (192.168.2.x) cannot reach certain ports behind the Router (192.168.1.x). The main thing we're trying to do is browse via UNC path (ex: \\192.168.1.120 from a 192.168.2.x machine).
I got 3389 working after I changed the -
ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.1.120 3389 y.y.x.x 3389 route-map SDM_RMAP_1 extendable
Modified the command to include the public IP instead of interface FastEthernet0
I believe it has something to do with the way NAT and route-maps are setup currently but I'm not familar enough with them to make the changes. I worked with Cisco to ensure the VPN tunnel was fine and it's something security related on the Router.
Here is the configuration (removed a few lines not necessary. y.y.x.x = WAN IP of Router x.x.y.y = WAN IP of ASA).

endHello Frank,
Just to clarify, you have changed the rule so y.y.x.x is router WAN link:
ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.1.120 3389 y.y.x.x 3389 route-map SDM_RMAP_1 extendable
and after that you could access 192.168.1.120:3389 from 192.168.2.0 networks ?
Above rule do a static translation of 192.168.1.120 3389 to your WAN link for all traffic EXCEPT VPN.
So maybe you were trying to access y.y.x.x (not 192.168.1.120) port 3389 from 192.168.2.0 networks ?
(and that traffic is not being sent via VPN but just normally routed through internet)

Cannot access certain websites?
I have troubling accessing certain websites on my Mac. I started using them about 4 days ago and it was all fine until yesterday I try to open them and they don't work. I know I didn't change anything with my wi-fi or anything like that. My wi-fi works just fine because my other sites with other stuff work fine. I asked my frined if he could access them from his computer and it works for him. I've tried different browsers such as safari, chrome, firefox but they all give me the same message "the connection was reset". I can access the websites through proxywebrowsing. com, but I can't use certain features
At this point I don't know what to do. I've tried to google for a solution but they all were confusing to me and just didn't work. I think from what I undnerstand i have to change something in my network settings, but how and what am I supposed to do there? I am a newby when it comes to fixing network, so if you have a suggestion in trying to change something please tell me how to get there. Please Help. Thanks! Thanks for helping me figure out how to turn off ipv6 on Mountain Lion, but it doesn't change anything. I don't know like I've stated in my description I was able to access the site just 2 days ago and I didn't change anything. Also why can I access the site from sites like proxybrowsing.com but not my own web browser,
Sorry, I have never had to fix a problem like this, so I am obviously really new and not understanding. -
Cannot Access Certain Websites from MBP
I've tried setting DNS to 8.8.8.8 as well as connecting via Ethernet as well as with my wireless broadband dongle, and still no luck. In fact, when I connect my dongle my internet connection goes even worse and I can hardly load any websites at all!
It's just certain websites in particular that won't load, however they load fine on other devices (e.g. my iPhone) even when they're connected to the same network.
Also I've tried removing my 'Wi-Fi' location under Sys Prefs and adding it again.
I can access all my usual sites with no issues (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube etc, all the big ones) it's just the occasional small scale website. I'm a web designer you see and it keeps happening on websites that I am working on.
And before you ask, these websites have all been hosted on different servers, it's happened on a total of 3 so far. All within the last couple of weeks.
I've noticed tonight that this particular client's 3 websites are all hosted on the same server as he has a reseller account and I can't load any of them on my MBP. However other devices load them fine and my MBP can still load other websites.
I've also tested by loading the websites in Adobe Browserlab and they load fine through that.
Also I've tried rebooting my router and the other thing I use to make the network 'wireless' (I forget what it's called, I'm not the hardware type as I'm sure you've guessed).
It's as if there's something about these websites that my MBP really doesn't like. However that's not to say it NEVER loads them, the problem seems intermittent.
I was loading this client's websites fine tonight right up until about an hour ago when they just seemed to cut out altogether. But as I say, other devices load them fine.
Any ideas what I can do to fix it? This is very annoying as it is preventing me from simply doing my job.I found the soluion after more googling here.

Cannot access certain websites (in particular the ...
I have had an ongoing issue where I am unable to access certain websites on my BT broadband connection.
Example sites include:
rsjoomla
Dell
I know the problem is not my PC, software firewall or router/hub. If use a free proxy service on the internet that hides my BT Broadband IP address I can access these sites.
I am an IT Manager who is knowledgeable on networks, firewalls etc so I don't want to have to go through basic troubleshooting steps on my computer or hub. It affects all systems connected to my home broadband and when I take my laptops and tablets to other networks I can access these sites.
Can anyone help me here?
Thanks
RossHi mcintyro,
Can you please do a nslookup and a tracert (traceroute) for both rsjoomla and dell
Also do you have BT Retail's (Consumer) network parental controls on? You can check by going to your MyBT.
If the network parental controls are on or active (but not configured) then you need to make sure you are using the HomeHub's/routers' DNS address.
Thanks

E4200v2 cannot access IPv6 Internet or sites using adobe flash player
I just upgraded my old WRT54G to a E4200v2 with firmware 2.0.36.126507. I installed it using the Cisco Connect CD. At first it seemed OK, but then I noted that I cannot open (or takes forever) many websites, in particular those requiring Adobe Flash Player to view. In addition, it appears that access IPv6 Internet or sites is impossible, even though IPv6 is enabled in the GUI. Is there anything I am missing in the configuration/set up of the router?
The connection to IPv6 is set to AUTOMATIC, but just now noticed address are just zeros...
how does one correct this?

I can create events, but then cannot access them in Facebook. Help.
I've created several events for a Facebook group/fan website. The "create an event" link works for me. BUT after creating event(s), I cannot access them via events link on page or via Facebook search. Often I NEED to get back to them to edit -- but I can't. Others can see them however, so I am wondering if this is a Firefox (12.0) issue. Of course I have contacted Facebook -- three times -- and of course they are nonresponsive. (and i've already tried, per firefox "help," deleting cache, allowing cookies -- etc., everything firefox suggested...)
Check if Facebook is working normally on other Web Browsers like IE, Chrome, etc.
* See this article -> [[Error loading web sites]]
Also, make sure that your Firefox Plugins are updated.
-> Update All your Firefox Plugins by visiting the following link:
* http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
* '''When Downloading Plugins setup files, Remove Checkmark from Downloading other Optional Softwares with your Plugins (e.g. Toolbars, McAfee, Google Chrome, etc.)'''
Check and tell if its working. -
Cannot access SharePoint 2013 publishing site
HI,
I set up a SharePoint 2013 and everything seemed to work fine (setup was basically done using the codeplex autoinstaller script).
But now I detected, that I have an issue with the publishing feature. Regardless of whether I activate this feature on an existing site collection or whether I create a new site collection with the Publishing Portal template, I cannot access the site. Even
not with the site collection administrator account.
I tried to assign the Central-Admin app-pool to the website (found this hint several times), but it doesn't solve the issue.
In the ULS logs, I found the following:

Any ideas, what causes this issue and how to solve it?
Thanks!!No, I created the sub site from central admin and after creation succeeded was never able to access it - so no custom apps there. This only happens, if I create the site collection with publishing portal template - team site template for example works fine.
I took a look into the IIS log and found the following:

The list that is mentioned in the source-URL (ID starts with C701B918) is the Pages list - I checked this in SharePoint Designer. So it seems that I have no access to the Pages library and that would explain why I can't access the page..
But why do I not have permission? And: how can I fix this? I tried the following powershell script but still no access to the pages library.
PS C:\Users\administrator> $web = get-spweb
http://krom.devnet.local/sites/pub
PS C:\Users\administrator> $account = $web.ensureuser("devnet\administrator")
PS C:\Users\administrator> $role = $web.RoleDefinitions["Contribute"]
PS C:\Users\administrator> $list = $web.lists["Pages"]
PS C:\Users\administrator> $list.breakroleinheritance($true)
PS C:\Users\administrator> $assignment = new-object microsoft.sharepoint.sproleassignment($account)
PS C:\Users\administrator> $assignment.roledefinitionbindings.add($role)
PS C:\Users\administrator> $list.roleassignments.add($assignment)
PS C:\Users\administrator> $list.update()
PS C:\Users\administrator> $web.dispose()
I also cannot change permission with SharePoint Designer because it just tries to open the related SharePoint page in browser and exactly is what I'm not allowed to do :-( -
I can't get a new password, so i cannot access my e-mail. Help.
I just signed-up for Mozilla Firefox. I have not been able to update my password, so I cannot access my e-mail. This is the most basic of problems. I cannot get into Mozilla.
You don't need a password from Mozilla to use Firefox to go to your email website. You should be able to get there just by entering the address in the address bar, or if you imported bookmarks from your other browser(s), you may have a bookmark to the site.
