Turning off wouldn't help because settings would remain even after you restarted. So contact your email provider and them for the correct settings.

Voicemails are a vital part of having a working phone. We do suggest that you look at the contact and then the number to make sure that it is *86. If you are needing to get your voicemails until then, please dial *86.

This occurred randomly in the middle of the night. I'd done nothing different or unusual. I've tried re-starting both devices, tried deleting and re-installing my account information. Hmm... looks like this is an issue for that email provider for some reason.
A user in a bt.com forums recommends turning off Push Emails settings.

Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data > Turn Push Off.
Coudln't hurt to try it and see if the issue resolves itself.

Reinstalling would be about the most useless thing you could do, given that the test with the other User account works -- that means the application is OK.
The next step that would be indicated would to remove the com.apple.mail.plist file from Home/Library/Preferences, after having Quit Mail. Subsequently when you relaunch Mail it will open as though New, but if you only enter the setup information for each account, and DECLINE when prompt to ask if you want to Import anything. Mail should rediscover the existing account folders, and all should be well.
As a precaution, open Home/Library and locate the Mail folder -- Duplicate the Mail folder, and drag the resulting copy to the Desktop for temporary backup.

You don't need a password from Mozilla to use Firefox to go to your email website. You should be able to get there just by entering the address in the address bar, or if you imported bookmarks from your other browser(s), you may have a bookmark to the site.

Reset your password. Be sure your new one meets the requirements for length (8) and characters (at least one upper case and one number).

Backup catalogs wouldn't have helped with this problem anyway, but naturally, you shouldn't delete backup catalogs for a while.

This solution I have already tried; it worked for actually accessing the net (which was my first problem with the new Safari), but I was unable to access my e-mail. I am now also getting an ATT message that says "Unknown Destination". That may be an improvement, but certainly not any lead to an answer.
This suggests that there may be a problem w/ ATT, but I need to explore the Safari issue further to in order to be able to push harder on ATT.
