I cannot access windows partition after an unexpected stutdown

Hello everyone,
while I was working on my windows partition(windows 7 ultimate) in my imac 27' i5, a strong and continuous error sound and black screen appeared without shut down the machine,so I pressed the button( in the back of my monitor which is used to start up my machine).
After that windows partition only starts with safe mode (where so no much I can do),(in normal mode a blue window appears which says something about remove hardware, error and some things which I can not read cause it disappears too quickly  (1sec).
So,after several efforts in save mode I understand that there was a problem with an installation of an antivirus program, which had not been installed correctly, and in save mode I got a message of catastrophic failure, and also I can not uninstall or remove this program under safe mode.
Till now I have been advised to delete bootcamp partition, and create it again and run windows again,so do you think this is the only solution?
Is there any way to access bootcamp files and modify under macintosh?
I need to mention that I have imac about two months, and usually I use windows partition (because I work with a program which is not supported by macintosh).
Also, do you think that deleting windows partition and creating again is there any case to harm my mac?
Which edition of windows is better compatible? (If there is one)
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.4), 27''

Personally I have had no experience with this problem but maybe these urls will have some useful info.

There is a Boot Camp forum that can probably do a better job at answering your question. It's possible because your system is messed up in Windows that all you need to do is hold down the Option key when starting your computer and then choose the partition to start from. There isn't a problem with OS X or Windows 7 I suspect it's what you have done by not following instructions on installing and removing software. If you do choose to remove the Windows partition then use Boot Camp Assistant to properly uninstall. You can fin the Boot Camp forum at:

  • Cannot access Windows Partition after Disk Utility (Mavericks)

Today my Windows partition worked. So I thought, might as well fix the permissions of the drive and also repair the drive for any bootloader problems. Resulted in an error saying "Live file system repair is not supported".
Mavericks still works boots fine. Windows on the other hand, does not appear when holding down the Alt/Option key at boot.
Please, I don't need an official documentation that teaches me how to install Boot Camp correctly, I just need an experienced answer to explain what is going on, don't post just to get points please.

I have this exact same problem. In my case, I had a Boot Camp partition set up and fully working, with Windows 8.1. Then, using Parallels 8, I set up a new VM to use that Boot Camp partition (following some instructions from Parallels that I found online).
After that, Windows felt that disk repairs were needed, but it never successfully repaired them. So I went to disk utility, selected the whole hard drive (not just a partition), and did repair.
This led to the error from Disk Utility: "Error: Live file system repair is not supported." And after that, when I reboot with the Option key held down, the Windows partition no longer is even shown. I hope like h*ll it isn't gone, because I had spent some time getting things setup on it.
    Someone, please help.

  • Cannot access recovery partition after enabling filevault

I did a clean install of Lion by extracting the disk image to an external Firewire drive, using disk utility to reparition my Macbook Pro's internal drive to a single, blank HFS+ parition, and then installed Lion to that partition from the external firewire drive.  It worked flawlessly.  At that point, without the firewire drive plugged in, I could boot to Lion, and if I held option while starting the computer, I could also see the recovery parition as an option to boot into.
After that, I used Bootcamp to install Windows, which resized my Lion partition.  After that, I enabled FileVault.  Everything went resonabley well: The Lion partition is now encrypted, and Windows still works, and the computer is functioning, however when holding option at boot, the only options I see are Lion and Windows.  The Recovery boot option is no longer visible.  I don't know if it was the act of using Bootcamp, or Filevault (or the combination of both) that caused it to dissapear, but I changed nothing else that I can think of.
I'm resonabley certain the actual recovery partition is still there. The diskutil list command outputs the following:
    Lownins-MacBook-Pro:~ Lownin$ diskutil list
    /dev/disk0
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *320.1 GB   disk0
       1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk0s1
       2:          Apple_CoreStorage                         259.0 GB   disk0s2
       3:                 Apple_Boot Recovery HD             650.0 MB   disk0s3
4:       Microsoft Basic Data Windows                 60.2 GB    disk0s4
My question is: How do I re-enable the Apple_Boot Recovery partition as a boot option from the "option key while booting" menu?

  • Can you still access Windows partition with open firmware password installed?

Can you still access Windows partition with open firmware password installed? If so, do you still use the Option key upon restart?

I don't use Bootcamp.  However, I do know that with a firmware password, pressing the option key at startup will cause the password entry screen to come up; after entering the password, you will get the boot device choice screen.
So, if Bootcamp partitions normally show up on that screen then it should work just fine, or so I'd imagine.

  • Cannot access windows shares with NTFS junction points

    Hi,
I upgraded to Mavericks and now I cannot access Windows shared where the folders are access through NTFS junction points. (NTFS junction points are like symbolic links to files/folders).
Regular shares are working fine and these shares are working on Windows PC's. I also tried before and after on another Mac Mini I have, so is definitatley something to do with upgrading to Mavericks.
    Thanks in advance
    A.

This is related to Apple's new SMB2 implementation in Mavericks.
Instead of connecting to your Windows share via SMB, connect via CFIS.  Note that I had to disconnect from Windows share, restart, and then reconnect with CFIS to get the NTFS junction points to work.
    From ZDNet:
You can also try forcing Mavericks to use the older SMB variant, Common Internet File System (CIFS). To do this, simply edit your server connection URL so that it uses CIFS. Use the Finder to choose the "Go" menu and select "Connect to Server..." (or just use command-K) and type "cifs://YourServerName" and hit Return; the server should mount. If it doesn't, try entering the share's designation as well, e.g. "cifs://YourServerName/YourDriveName."
[BE SURE TO RESTART AFTER DISCONNECTING FROM SMB SHARES AND BEFORE THE CFIS CONNECT TO MAKE SURE ALL ACCESS THREADS CLOSE!]

  • Upgrading MacBook Pro Hard Drive - cannot get Windows partition to work

    Hello,
The other day, I decided to replace my 320 GB hard drive with a 1 TB hard drive/SSD hybrid. I did a little bit of research about cloning the drive before that, and it seemed pretty straight forward to clone the OS X partition, but I wasn't really sure about cloning my Windows partition. Originally, my 320 GB hard drive had 2 partitions: 220 GB for OS X Mavericks, and 100 GB for Windows 8.1.
I bought the new drive with an external enclosure and plugged it in. The first thing I did was open Disk Utility and partitioned the new hard drive (750 GB HFS+, 250 GB NTFS). I figured I would need to partition it first and clone each partition separately. I used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the OS X partition, and it worked with no problem (I immediately could restart my computer and boot with the partition on the new drive, while it was still plugged in by USB).
Next, I tried using CCC to clone the Windows partition the same way (I realize now that CCC cannot do this). 7 hours later, the cloning was complete, but there was an error that a couple files couldn't be copied. I tried copying them manually but it didn't work. I wasn't sure if the Windows partition would work, so to find out, I switched the hard drives and put the old 320 GB one in the external enclosure. I booted my computer and it booted the new OS X partition with no problem. It also mounted the Windows partition that I cloned with CCC, and I can access all of the files in it. However, when I restarted and held down "option", it would not let me boot the Windows partition.
After some googling, I realized CCC is not able to clone a bootcamp partition and make it bootable, so I opened disk utility and deleted the Windows partition (using the minus button), then recreated it (using the plus button). I downloaded Winclone (paid $30), which supposedly can clone a bootcamp partition. I opened Winclone and it seemed pretty simple: you just choose the source partition on the left, and the target on the right. I plugged in the USB enclosure with my old hard drive, and in the Winclone menu the original Windows partition popped up. I chose that as my source, and chose to copy it to the new NTFS partition on the new drive that I created. I left it on overnight, and when I woke up it said it was completed.
I now had two drives mounted: my NTFS partition that I created, and a new one that said "EFI". I have no idea what EFI is. My NTFS partition looks like it has all of the files from my original Windows partition on it; however, when I restart it does not allow me to boot with it, although I now have the option to boot EFI. When I select EFI, I am given the Windows 8.1 start up screen (with the blue Windows logo), but then an error message pops up saying something like there is an issue and it needs to restart (it restarted before I could read the whole thing).
When I boot in OS X, I only have the NTFS partition (with all my Windows files) mounted, and no EFI. When I restart, I can still boot EFI, but I always get the same message and then it restarts.
Is there any way I can fix my Windows partition so that it works the same way it did on my old drive? What is EFI? Should I delete it? How can I make the NTFS partition, which seems to have all of my files, bootable? I only want 2 partitions: one for OS X, and one for Windows. Also, can I do all of this without having to reinstall either of the operating systems?
    Thanks

    Hmm, that's a good question!
I headed over to the twocanoes website (the folks that make Winclone) and their guide mentions something about running Sysprep before you create the Windows image. If you skipped that step, that may be why you're having issues
    http://www.twocanoes.com/support/winclone/migrating-a-bootcamp-partition-with-wi nclone/
Step 24 in that guide also mentions copying a Boot file - were you able to/did you do that?
You may have better luck over in the Bootcamp forum, which is here.

  • Cannot access web console after install.

    Hi all.
The last day has been my first encounter with Oracle VM and it seemed to go fine until I finished. I have installed the latest VM and management tools on a bare bones machine (spec below) but cannot access the console via http://machine:8888/OVA.
I have tried installing using https and without and can gain access to neither the https 4443 or the http 8888 yet I can ssh into it quite easily. The dmesg only really complains that there are no ipv6 routers (understandable) but the xend.log in /var/log/xen does show something strange at the bottom:

The spec of the machine started out as:
    Athlon 64 x2 3600+
    4Gb Ram
2 Nics (1 built in Broadcom & 1 Intel MT)
    1 NVidia super duper gt9500
    3 Hard Disk, (1 IDE 150gb , 1 SATA 80 & 1 SATA 150 - the IDE is master boot with system on it)
After a few attempts, I removed Video and the Intel card.
The install was done via CD and never complained and in this last install, it only had 1 NIC to choose for the management console.
On this last install I also chose top use none https and therefore the system says I should gain access via http://machine:8888/OVA
I do notice though that in some tutorials, it states alternatives to OVA like OVS etc, all of which I have tried.
Oh and if I netstat -an, it shows it's listening on port 8888.
many thanks, I'm guessing it's some a bit silly that I've over looked but from the way I read the install instructions, you only need the VM and the management Disks to install and you should be able to access via web console?
BTW, systems I'm using as clients to access range from, opera, firefox (Soalris), ie 6,7,8 & 9 from Windows and Windows server. All I get is Internet Explorer Cannot Display This Page.
    many Thanks, Mark

Did you install the VM Manager software as a VM hosted by OVS? Make sure the VM is running. It is probably named something like OVM_EL5U4_X86_OVM_MANAGER_PVM. Use "xm list" on the OVS server to see which VMs are running.
If it's not running, then run "xm create /path/to/vm.cfg" the path is probably something like /OVS/running_pool/OVM_EL5U4_X86_OVM_MANAGER_PVM/vm.cfg

I am unable to access the default address book after doing the software update - I restored my backup and everything is there except for my contacts.  When I open my address book it is labeled personal and there are no addresses and when I add a contact it does not show up, but I noticed when I go into options it shows only default under address books with 99 entries and when I try to add a contact it does not show in the list on my phone but the number of entries in the default book goes up so they are going into that one but I cannot access it?  Any idea how I can get my contact list back? • Z61M - Fingerprint reader disabled and now I cannot access windows

My fingerprint reader had been causing issues, so I went into the Thinkpad menu and under "manage security options" , clicked on the fingerprint icon and then preceeded to delete what I thought was the fingerprint option/software. I mistakenly thought I would be able to use the password to access windows, however, I'm now unable to get past the CSS User ID window.  I can only access Thinkvantage by pressing the blue button when prompted but can't find anything in there to help me. The finger print reader now fails everytime and the Control/Alt/Del button only brings up the CSS User ID and when I hit "ok" it states - "User was not enrolled or his data cannot be opened". When I click options on the CSS ID window and then click "I am not enrolled and want to use my windows password", it states "unable to bypass logon because the user is enrolled" - which contradicts the first message????
I'm really confused and the Lenovo help desk offered no assistance except to "restore to factory settings" but that means I'll lose everything - surely there is an easier solution to getting access to my laptop without a complete reset.

I've managed to work this out myself by going into BIOS and disabling the Security chip which allowed me then to use the password to get access. From there I have now disabled the finger print reader correctly. Hopefully this helps someone else down the track!! Cheers.

  • "Site System Status Summarizer still cannot access storage object" after DB Move

After our SCCM server was up and running, the DBAs moved the SQL Site Database to a new drive which is a supported SQL Operation according to this Support document:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2709082
Using the methods described by the above document we were able to restore functionality to SCCM but I am still seeing Informational messages in the SMS_SITE_SYSTEM_STATUS_SUMMARIZER component.
Site System Status Summarizer still cannot access storage object "\\<SQLServer>\S$\SMS_<SQLServer>" on site system "\\<SQLServer>". The operating system reported error 67: The network name cannot be found.
Possible cause: The site system is turned off, not connected to the network, or not functioning properly.
Solution: Verify that the site system is turned on, connected to the network, and functioning properly.
Possible cause: Site System Status Summarizer does not have sufficient access rights to connect to the site system and access the storage object.
Solution: Verify that the accounts are properly configured to allow the site to connect to the site system and access the storage object.
Possible cause: Network problems are preventing Site System Status Summarizer from connecting to the site system.
Solution: Investigate and correct any problems on your network.
Possible cause: You took the site system out of service and do not intend on using it as a site system any more.
Solution: Remove the site system from the list of site systems used by this site; this list appears under Site Systems in the Configuration Manager Console.
Possible cause: You accidentally deleted the storage object or took the storage object out of service.
Solution: The components will eventually detect that the storage object no longer exists on the site system and will either recreate it or choose a new storage object. Monitor the status messages reported by other site components to verify that this
    occurs properly.
The storage object has been inaccessible since "14/03/2015 1:23:20 AM". When you correct the problem and Site System Status Summarizer successfully accesses the storage object, Site System Status Summarizer will set the storage object's status
to OK, providing that the storage object has sufficient free space.
I have run a site reset to try and fix this but the site server still seems to be trying to access files on the old drive. Is there a method to get SCCM to start looking for these files on the NEW DB drive (H$) in my case?

Was a site reset performed at all yet? This has to be done.
    Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de
Yes, I tried a site reset prior to making this post. I was sure I had read that this should resolve the issue but unfortunately it seems a site reset did not resolve the issue.
Since we are running a virtualized environment, is it possible the old drive has to still exist prior to running the site reset? If we add a small "S" drive back to the server and run the site reset again, might that help?
