To begin with, you have the wrong forum - the iMacs covered by this forum were discontinued in 2005 and are incapable of running OS X 10.6.x
Try either iMac (Intel) or Snow Leopard forums.
To get more help, contributors will need to know what screensaver you're trying to use - is it one downloaded from the internet or one of the OS X default set?

I have a mac, In"Design CS 5.5, a design gave me a file said it was CS 6, does not open in CS 5.5..Message says "Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign." I think I need to buy upgrade from 5.5 to 6. I found one on NextTechDirect for $150 to download. they are not a scam according to "scamadvisor.com."
When I drag the InDesign file that that was supplied by another designer who said it was CS 6 onto my desktop it says CS 5.5. Is that because I only have CS 5.5?

I only know from experience that when you invest in bargain pricing you usually get what you pay for.

I downloaded the free trial of Final Cut Pro X. It has expired, and I am trying to pay for the app now, but I keep getting a message saying "please contact I-tunes support to complete this transaction". Then another message comes up saying "We could not complete your request. There was an error in the app store, please try again later. (100)". Then in the backround, a new safari window pops up and is trying to connect to the i-tunes store, but never does.
I have no problem logging into I-tunes or the apple store with my user name and ID. I can download songs from I-tunes as well. Just not sure if this is a common problem or notHi Dan ...
I downloaded the free trial of Final Cut Pro X.
Delete the trial version then try purchasing the app.

Is this with your iTunes account password ? If so, and if you haven't already done so, then try logging out of your account by tapping on it in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if that fixes it.

Has anybody else experienced this problem and can anybody suggest a way around this?
Uninstall all components, delete the named folders and reboot as set out in the second box of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates then reinstall.

What support? All I get is an endless circle of running around. Things worked fine until recently, apperently real people to talk to don't exist here, just a never ending series of links that lead nowhere. It seems many others have had this same problem with Itunes, but what is the salution?

Choose country, and then at the bottom of the list on the left there should be an option 'Contact Support' (via expresslane).
It's only users here on this forum - unfortunately Apple don't seem to have a simple phone number and you have to get support via email or occasionally a live chat option.

The apple store is so unhelpful. I have an iMac computer operating on Mac OSX 10.5.8. I want to upgrade to the latest Mountain Lion operating system so I can work with the iCloud on my computer and download my emails. I can't seem to purchase this on-line as it keeps telling me to go to the app store. I haven't got the app store on my computer as I am told I need iCloud for which I need the new operating system, which I can't download or purchase as I am sent back to an instruction telling mee to go to the app store icon.

Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from download, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $30. You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number.

Also, what is Boot camp? Are they all the same?Boot Camp installs Windows directly on your Mac so you reboot your system to switch between OS X (the "Mac" experience) and Windows if you need to use it for any reason.
The problem with boot camp is that you cannot use your Mac applications along with any that require Windows, so companies like Parallels have developed "virtualization" programs that allow you to install Microsoft Windows within OS X and run Windows inside of your Mac instead of "next" to it as is the case with Boot Camp. You open the program and boot a Windows installation that loads in a separate window, all while you have Safari, the OS X Finder, Mail, Calendar, and other programs on your Mac still running in the background.
In this regard, the benefit of Parallels Desktop and similar applications is that they allow you to run a Windows program alongside those for OS X so you do not interrupt your workflow in order to reboot to Windows and use them. -
I reinstalled operating system software on my MacBook Air (Yosemite 10.10.3) and tried reinstalling Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. I was able to install the software into my Applications folder but I was unable to enter the serial number or go any further with the installation. When I click on the Adobe Acrobat icon in the Applications folder, nothing happens.

Software update will only bring you up to the current level of the system you are using - you are at the maximum for Snow Leopard. To get Lion or higher you will have to go to the Mac App Store in Applications and purchase it there (Yosemite is free). You will need to check that your Mac meets the requirements and you should particularly note that PPC programs such as AppleWorks will not run in Lion or above.
The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price (though it's reported to have been removed from sale in some countries so may well cease to be available generally) but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Yosemite (10.10.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Yosemite are:
OS X v10.6.8 or later
2GB of memory
8GB of available space
and the supported models are:
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)

If the problem is only with Safari and you are otherwise happy with Snow Leopard you could switch to FireFox (free) - the latest version of that will run in Snow Leopard. -

It is a Mac port of a newer version of FF thatn any PowerPC Mac can support natively. It runs, looks and feel like FF.

I own a MacBook Pro 13" i5 with 8GB of RAM (late 2011). I just bought a Crucial 128GB SSD. I would like to clone my actual hard drive and paste it in the new SSD, I know how to do it but, will this also clone the operating system (Lion Mac OS X 10.7.3)? If the answer is yes, that means that when I'll have the SSD in place, I'll only need to start-it up and all my data will be there, as well as Lion, right?Of the two popular cloning utilities, SuperDuper does NOT clone the Recovery Partition, CarbonCopyCloner will, but only if you enable block mode copy. This partition is important cause it is the only way to recover/repair the main volume if it gets damaged and you don't have reasonably fast Internet access; Lion does not come with install media.
wjosten: no need to flip the disks about prior to cloning. Just go ahead and do the deed with Disk Utility and swap until you are certain and happy with the results. -
Tribute to the windows line of operating systems.
We are thinking of doing a tribute to the windows line of operating systems in our college (Nath Valley, Aurangabad , Maharashtra, India) for our annual software and technology exhibition. We wated to display landmark edition of windows such as MS DOS ,
Ver. 3.1 , Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows XP. We are unsure of where we will be able to source these operating systems . Please suggest any method in which we could display these operating systems using emulators ( as we may not be able to get drivers
for the hardware - that is compatible with these operating systems) .
Please inform whether these operating systems can be available and also the procedure for installing these operating systems.
Please contribute to this project of ours to help highlight the evolution of operating systems and pay tribute to the windows line of operating systems. Your advise would be crucial towards the progress of the project.
