I cannot add a homemade video to itunes

I made a video using Windows 8 Movie Maker. Now I want to add it to iTunes library and then burn. I have tried importing and dragging the video but it doesn't appear anywhere in iTunes. What am I doing wrong or is this impossible with Windows 8?

Thanks for getting back to me as i am trying to resolve this for my work project. The files were created using a panasonic camcorder when connected the camcorder to my machiine all the files were mts (High-definition MPEG Transport Stream video format, commonly called "AVCHD;" used by Sony, Panasonic, and other HD camcorders). We then used a video converter to save them as an MP4. I can play them from my machine using VLC media player but cannot insert them into adobe. Please help me.

According to the hardware requirements, my system well exceeds them, but no joy!

UPDATE: I backed up my phone, wiped it (Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings), & then restored it through iTunes. For whatever reason, that seems to have fixed the problem. Movies now sync to my phone like they used to.
That process seems to have corrected 1 or 2 other minor issues, including one where iTunes was 'syncing artwork' for a long time on every sync.

If I try to add music or videos to my iTunes library nothing happens at all, even if the files are mp3 and mp4. But there´s no error shown to me. Just nothing happens. I know that this question was already asked, but there´s no answer which helpes me. It´s strange, because it works for nearly a year.

According to the technical specifications for your iPhone 5, MP4 is a supported file format ( iPhone 5 - Technical Specifications ) so you can also try syncing the video over the same way you would sync music:

Repair your QuickTime and try again.
Control Panel > Programs n Features > highlight QuickTime, click CHANGE then REPAIR.

How do you add personal movies/videos to iTunes

I have repeatedly tried to drag/drop my personal videos into itunes on my NEW iMac (mountain lion) with no success. They are .mov videos. It appears Apple is forcing you to purchase their products in order to get it into itunes to play on apple TV. I hope this is not the case.

You may want to try playing the video in QuickTime Player, to make sure it's compatible with iTunes.

I have exactly the same problem since the upgrade. I can put music in my library but it wont let me put the musicinto my library but not transfer it too my iphone or ipod touch. The music shows up in the libary for both but is grey with chasing arrows symbol. I have found out via the internet what the symbol means but no idea how to solve it.

I just upgraded to itunes 10.7 and i cannot add any of my existing itunes music to my iphone 4s

i cannot down load any music to my iphone after upgrading to the new itunes program. I see it show up in my phone but it is all grayed out and i see the sync icon in itunes and i get the error message from the iphone saying to check itunes for the selection did not sync. This ***** for i just got the new dave mathews cd and cannot get it onto my phone!

Right before upgrading to ITunes 11, I was able to add a movie clip (home video). Now, can't add any either!
BUT I noticed that when I went to "Recently Added" (music)...lo and behold there were the videos that I tried to add but I couldn't see them under Movies!!!. You are able to get the info on them and everything (same type and encoding like my old ones).
So to get access to them in a somewhat organized fashion, I dragged the new movie clips into a playlist so I can access them indefinitely until the issue in Itunes gets resolved.
I was still determined to get them into the movie category, so I went into "Music Videos" and "Edit" - "movie kind is" selected "Movie" and tried dragging my new movie clips (tried from both "recently added" and the new playlists) into "Music Videos". It looked like it dragged properly...but my movie count was the same - no success.
For now I am able to play my new movie clips from the new playlists or from "Recently Added".
Hope this issue gets resolved quickly.
p.s. There is nothing under "Home Videos" so it didn't accidently go into this category.
Anyone else see the recent adds under "recently added"??? If so, then this should be a fix and not something we need to reinstall....

I can add add artwork from itunes store but most of my collection are old and itunes cannot find them. I have loaded them onto Helium ( It found them) But I cannot get them in itunes. Add artwork way, Copy and paste, Drag them Nothing works.

iTunes 12.1 should support three ways to add artwork using existing image files on your PC, all starting with right-click > Get Info and then the Artwork tab, Then:
click the Add Artwork button, navigate to and select an image file on your computer, or
drag and drop an image file from your computer to the Artwork tab, or
copy an image to the clipboard, for example, from a web page, go to the Artwork tab and press Ctrl-V (the right-click > Paste option that was available in prior releases is not available in iTunes 12.0 or 12.1)
However, there are three cases in which you can follow these procedures but artwork is not correctly associated with or embedded in your media files:
your media are in a format that doesn't accommodate embedded artwork - typically WAV files. To embed artwork you'll need to convert to another format - Apple Lossless or AIFF if you want to preserve lossless quality, AAC or MP3 otherwise.
your media files are read only - to fix this, use Windows Explorer to find the folder that contains your files, right-click and select Properties. On the General tab there's a check box labeled "Read-only" - if this is checked, or is grey (sometimes blue), click the box so that the flag is unchecked and the box is white. Click OK, and then OK again when the "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" option selected. Now try adding the artwork again.
Windows permissions issues are preventing iTunes from updating your media files (there's some anecdotal evidence of a change in this behavior in iTunes 12). See turingtest2's notes on Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows for advice on fixing this, then try adding the artwork again.

Cannot add transitions to video

I am trying to add transitions to a video but none are showing up in the library on the side bar.
I tried to disable automatic transitions but I cannot click on window> movie properties
There are no transitions in the video right now.
Anyone know how to fix this?

As others said, you can create a short video to use as transition after your menus. You can take a frame of your menu animation as starting point and edit some animation in FCP, i.e. making your buttons (I mean the graphic/text you use as buttons) go out of the screen or something like that. I think the best inspiration is the way that menus "go away" in a lot of commercial movies DVDs.
You can add an audio track with some effects in FCP with some synchro with the movie.
Remember that if your menu background is animated, you cannot control in what point of the loop the viewer will press a button, but that happens when you use the standards trasition too.

Cannot add ipod-compatible videos

I'm having trouble adding videos to my 30 GB iPod. I've tried adding various videos that I believe to be iPod compatible -- some converted to 320x240 H.264 at 200 kbps/24fps as a .mp4; a few downloaded from sites like Google Video that offer downloads in iPod/PSP format. I always get the error "file.mp4 was not copied to the iPod because it cannot be played on this iPod."
I'm not sure if this might have caused the problem, but I recently changed the computer I am using with the iPod. I used to use a computer with Windows XP, with which I could add both music and videos perfectly. I am now using a Powerbook with Mac OS X. I restored the iPod on the Mac after my first tries to add video on the Mac failed, but I still get the same error. I can add music just fine.
Help please?
