In Apple Mail, OS 10.7.3, when I click on add sender to address book, nothing gets added. The address book doesn't change. When I try adding addresses via previous recipients, the button is active, but when I click, nothing is added to the address book. Any ideas for me?

  • Unable to add contacts to address book from Mail

When I mouse over a phone number (or address) in an email message in Mail, an arrow appears that lets me add a new contact with that phone number directly to address book from mail. Unfortunately, when I fill in the information and click "add to address book," the little window disappears but the contact does not appear in my address book.
Any suggestions for fixing this? Thanks!

Thank you so much V.K. Your solution worked for me too.
BTW, I actually had two similar files in the app support:
    AddressBook-v22.abcddb AND AddressBook-v22~.abcddb
I deleted both, but only the first one gave me the cannot empty trash message.

It is using the same database on disk. You may have to re-launch Mail.

  • HT2486 How do I export a mailbox to address book from Mail

How do I export a mailbox to address book from mail?

Unless you are willing to continually do an export of one contacts database and import of the other, switching back and forth, you'll either need to use some third-party contacts application or maintain two separate user accounts in Mac OS X. The built-in Address Book/Contacts application does not allow multiple address books.

  • Does my mac automatically create an email contact list (that I can go to) as I compose emails or do I have to manually add contacts into my address book?

Does my mac automatically create an email contact list, or do I have to manually add emails to my address book?

Hi there. You email contact list is in your address book. These are from a list you make or by you emailing someone. If you are talking about setting up email so to send and receive. With a clean install that is done when you set up  you computer. Otherwise you have to open mail and go to mail preferences/accounts and set up your email account. http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201728  http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1277

  • New to Blackberry-can not find the Add Contact option within address book

I am sure the answer to this is going to be so obvious, but asking just the same. I go into the address book, push the ball in and there are my list of contacts. I want to add new contacts, but have no place I can see to add? Top of the screen as #BAL, the MIN, PMT then my contacts beginning with A that Verizon switched into my new phone from the old. If I am on one of these names and click on the name, I am given options within that particular contact. I just would like to Add a new contact. Thanks much

From the address book push the menu key. This is the one to the left of the trackball. Select New Address from the list of available options.

  • Add to Address Book from Mail

    Hi,
What i'm trying to do is pretty simple. I recieve an email in the mail app and want to add the sender to my address book. I right click on the email, and click 'Add to Address Book'. The problem is it always mixes up the first and the last names. So 'Mark Jones' would have Mark as a surname and Jones as a first name. I have tried using different 'sort by' options (although i don't think that makes a difference).
It worked briefly for a couple of hours when I transferred to the iCloud.
This has been happening since I got a Mac with Snow Lepoard a couple of years back. Back then I did actually import my contacts from Gmail, although in trying to fix the problem, i've started with a blank slate but this still makes no difference.
I used to use Mobileme and now use iCloud to sync my mail and address book.
Is this happening to anyone else? I've looked around and found nothing.
    Cheers.

I think that there is a bug in either Mail or Address Book. It seems that the sender's Display Preferences prevail if they differ from yours, so you then have to choose Card…Swap First/Last name.
A truly intelligent app. would identify which is First Name and which Last Name and would adjust them to conform to the Receiver's Address Book Display Preferences.

  • My nail is working but I do not see contacts in my address book (yahoo mail)

I just installed Thunderbird to try it for the first time. Installation and setup was a breeze. Mail is syncing as expected but when I go to the address book, I do not have my contacts as I would expect. I am connecting to Yahoo.

    Address books aren't email.
You need to export them from yahoo and import them to Thunderbird. Yahoo will probably offer CSV ("comma separated values") format which Thunderbird can use.

  • Contact information for Address Book and Mail

    Hi,
I recently updated to Snow Leopard, and have set up my school email exchange account. Normally in school computers, when I click on a contact's name in Outlook on a school computer, it shows me his/her phone number, office location, etc, but it doesn't do that in Mail. Is there a way I can set up Mail to do that, or is that just not possible?
    Thanks!

sorry, I don't have an exchange account and can't comment on that. hopefully, somebody else can chime in.

  • Can't add anyone to my address book - PLEASE HELP!!!

Prior to my last upgrade of thunderbird, this function was working fine. Now I cannot add anyone to my address book, and the copy to address book feature does nothing. It's a real pain cause I have to type every single persons email into the address bar which is driving me nuts!!!
It may be an overall setting with the computer, but I have tried every possible option and it doesn't seem to allow me to add anyone. When I do it manually the ok but won't allow me to click it?!?
    Please help...

  • Cannot sync iphone 4 contacts to macbook address book

    HI,
I'm using iphone 4 and I would like to sync all the contacts in my iphone to my macbook address book. The macbook address book is empty and is running on OS X Lion. iTunes is version 10. I tried syncing once and all my contact in my phone is wiped out as the contacts in the address book is empty. Lucky me there is a backup a few months back. How do i copy my iphone contacts to my macbook?

If you put at least one contact, even a fake one, into your Mac's Address Book first, then when you sync you'll be given the prompt whether or not to merge the contacts.

  • Add only one contact email in address book group

I created a contact group in address book and added some people I knew to it.  However some of my friends have multiple email address.  (like JohnMarino @gmail and JohnMarino@yahoo). Can I limit the contact to only the one email I would like to send it to?

Yes, as long as you keep your contacts "On Your Mac." Use the "Edit Distribution List" feature in AddressBook to select the address that should be used for the group. If you use iCloud for your contacts, the option is not available. Hasn't been since the intro of Lion.
There are other compromises to get it to work with Lion, but they are clumsy and generally result in multiple contact listings.
