Pair a wireless KB with the laptop and all should be well when you attach the laptop to the iMac and invoke TDM. But as Denny mentions, it does seem like the waste of a good iMac to use it in just this configuration. Why is the laptop primary?

I should have added to my posting (instead of using this "reply" -  it is the server passwork it is asking for and I have never known that I had one and assumed it was the passwork I always used for this type of thing.

  • Can anyone recommend some server monitoring software

I am looking for some sort of software tool that will allow us to monitor the processor load similar to Activity Monitor but remotely. Server Monitor does not provided that particular function. Can anyone recommend one?

  • My iMac can't boot Windows 7 From USB while my Macbook Pro can do it

I install Windows 7 64 bit and rEFIt into a USB hard disk and hope to boot from my iMac 27" (2010 Mid). However, it shows that no boot deivce is found.
If I plug the SAME disk to my Macbook Pro 17" (2009 Mid), it can boot Windows 7 without any problem.
I tried with Linux and get same result, iMac says no boot device while my Macbook Pro can boot it without problem.
I tried experiment for weeks and still can't get iMac work.
I think it is very abnormal and I wonder if someone can tell me how to fix it or any directory to solve this problem.

My iMac runs snow leopard and my MacBook pro runs Lion. Both of them are updated with latest updated. I just get one external USB hard disk with Windows 7 32 bit installed and magically, my iMac can boot it from rEFIt. However, I don't know what makes it works. I tried to make same configuration, software and steps on other USB hard disks for hundreds times but I can repeat it again. All other attempt can make USB hard disk boot on MacBook Pro but not iMac only.

  • How can I split an external monitor's screen on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro with TWO external monitors.  When maximizing a program on one of the external monitors it expands across BOTH screens. When I do the same thing on my Windows 7 system the program is contained to the monitor it is being displayed on. (Pretty smart of that PC to know which monitor I'm working on!) So HOW can I get the Mac to do the same thing? Is there a 3rd party utility that can identify multiple monitors?  I'm using a Matrix DualHead2Go to connect the two external montors to the Mini-DVI port on the Mac.
    Thanks!!

I'm using a Matrix DualHead2Go to connect the two external montors to the Mini-DVI port on the Mac
The behavior you describe in Windows is exactly how much multiple display system works but I have two graphics cards capable of driving two displays each. I believe you have identified the problem in the above sentence. I believe that the Mac sees the Matrix device as a single display and not the two displays themselves. With the two external monitors attached, open System Preferences and select the Displays tab. If the Mac OS sees the displays as two separate displays you should see a dialog in each of the monitors and on your MacBook Pro. If I am correct you won't see three display dialogs, you'll only see two, one on the Mac and one on one of the two external displays.

  • I have a late 2013 27" iMac, can anyone recommend a really good external blu-ray player?

    Hi,
I recently purchased a stock late 2013 27" iMac and I'm looking to purchase a really good external blu-ray player. I would prefer a Samsung USB 3.0.
    Thanks!

There are many solutions for watching BLU-RAY MOVIES on MAcs.
One is to download Bluray for Mac ... with a blueray player, this little player plays most bluerays perfectly.
You can download a trial for free here: http://www.macblurayplayer.com/
Second, You can get a program called MAKEMKV and use it in combination with VLC PLAYER to convert BLU-Ray to MKV format or STREAM from LOCAL NETWORK FAST to watch Blue Ray Free!!!!
    GET MAKE MKV here: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/34693/makemkv
And VLC PLAYER HERE: http://download.cnet.com/VLC-Media-Player/3000-2139_4-10210434.html?tag=mncol;tx t
There are videos on YOU TUBE to show you how to use MAKEMKV and VLC together.
Also, I just purchased a SAMSUNG Ext. SLIM Bluray writer for under $100 that works great for playing and burning Bluray Disc!
    Good Luck

  • How can I get my OS X back to my MacBook Pro? Booted Widows 7 from a disc and have deleted all the partitions. :(

Guys! I'm new to OS X and not used to it so I tried installing Windows 7 having the thought that it's as easy as on ordinary laptops. Installation was succesfull, Installed it by first going to a "boot utility like" screen while it's still on OS X, Deleted all those partitions, Placed a Windows 7 disc in the disc drive and on the Windows installation menu I also deleted the partiotions I saw. After all that my MacBook successfuly is running Windows 7 but problems appeared like no backlight on the keyboard, Trackpad is no longger functioning well and the audio jack has this f*cking red light. :'( I admit this is all my fault and I really need to find a solution to get it running on OS X again. Please help!!! Sorry for my bad english... And also, While booting up, There is no more Apple logo but a silver screen then Windows...

A partition is just a section of the disk set aside for a particular purpose. In this case, we're talking about a Mac partition and a Windows partition. They have different formats, which is how the data is stored. The disks that came with your Mac will create the Mac partition when you install, but most likely you'll lose the Windows partition. You've got kind of a mess at this point. What you should do is install the Mac OS and get everything as you want it. Then run Bootcamp to create a Windows partition and let Bootcamp do the Windows installation for you. Grant gave you good advice earlier. Don't let Windows do any partitioning. That's how you got into this mess.

  • I can't sync my iPod touch 1st generation with macbook pro

I can't sync my ipod touch 1st generation with macbook pro.
It recognises that its my ipod and says sync completed but there is no music or content on the ipod from my itunes library.

Thanks Chris.  Have tried this but does not work.  I restored the ipod touch to original settings and erased all data a few weeks ago too as thought this would help but it hasn't.  Any advice?

Macs with a FireWire port will also boot happily from an External drive. You don't even need to open the MacBook.
Some users buy a drive they would like to have as a future Internal drive, and also buy an external enclosure. They get the External set up the way they want it, then swap with the Internal drive.

You need to transfer the iTunes Library from the most recent backup you made before the hard drive was replaced.
You can't transfer the full iTunes Library from the iPad back to iTunes.
There are third-party Windows applications that will transfer data from an iOS device, but they don't re-create the iTunes Library exactly as it was before.

  • Can anyone recommend a good 2TB external drive for my iMac 10.9 ?

can anyone recommend a good 2TB external drive for my iMac 10.9 ?

The Griffin Survivor is a military-grade case that I use. It's $40 and I purchased it at Best Buy. It has a rubber piece that covers the charging port, but can be easily removed for charging while still in the case. The only downside of the case is because of the added girth, it makes the iPod unusable with iHomes or other docks unless you take it out of the case.

You need to either upgrade your computer to Mac OS X 10.6 or download the content directly from Apple's servers instead of your computer; for content not purchased from iTunes, the second option requires signing up for iTunes Match.

  • Can anyone recommend software to scan iMac hard drive for errors

    Hello Apple Community
Can anyone recommend software to scan iMac hard drive for errors/defects/corruption?
I've been having problems with hard drive for months and it finally froze on me so I reformatted and restored from Time Machine.
Everything is fine now but I just have a feeling I will see the same problems occur because I simply restored to the exact moment from where I was having problems (i.e. Finder crashing/permissions issues/Volumes unmounting/Trash not working/Random error messages/Computer crashing when opening or saving PNG).
I read that sometime Disk Utility doesn't always pick up on a defect or corrupt hard drive.  The whole time I was having problems Disk Utility said HD was ok.
Is there software that can do a better job of scanning hard drive for errors and let me know if I need to get HD replaced?
    Thanks
    Brad

I agree with both.  Most important though is you backup your data frequently*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
That way if a problem should arise, and it is a result of the hard drive actually dying, you won't accidently kill the hard drive in the process of trying to detect errors.
