  • Attaching a file to gmail in firefox is extremely slow

When using gmail through firefox when I click on Attach file and then select a file it takes a very long time for the file to actually get attached so that I can send the email.
Is this a problem with the Adobe plug-in? A firefox problem? Please help!

cor-el, thanks for responding. I'm not sure that is the issue. In working with my system since the post i I have encountered this same problem when I open a file using the Adobe Acrobat. I'm thinking this is a plug-in issue but not sure where to start to try to track it down. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • I recently undated to Firefox 8. When I try to attach a file using yahoo mail I get a message that file cannot be sent. I don't have a problem on Explorer

When I use firefox I cannot attach a file to my outgoing yahoo e-mail. I do not have this problem when I use Explorer. This seems to have started when I updated to Firefox 8.0

Are you trying to open the online document, or are you downloading it to your local disk first.  What is the exact message you get?

You can experiment with how Firefox would run after a reset or reinstall by creating a new profile.
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
You'll click the Create Profile button. I recommend using the default location suggested (in other words, don't click the button to choose a different folder). Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
After Firefox settles down, try Outlook. Any luck?
If it works, log out of Outlook, exit Firefox, restart it and check again. If it doesn't work the second time, one possible explanation is a a system-installed add-on getting picked up or activated.
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

Care to share which software you were unsucessful in updating?  Which OS version you are using?

    Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.
Research Knowledge Base for network problems that pertain to the OS that is currently installed on your computer.   See these basic networking KB Articles:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1401 AirPort troubleshooting guide

  • After last Moutain Lion update, suddenly and sporadically I cannot move my files using my mouse.  I only get a "ghost" image.  Moving items to the trash is, of course no problem.  Does anyone have a solution?  I've updated my permissions...no go!

Cannot move icon files using my mouse or cursor after installing Mountion Lion's last update.  After rebooting several times, this sometimes fixes the problem.  I've tried checking and updating my permissions, but this hasn't worked.  What's happening?  I haven't backed up so I can't go back to Lion.  Has this happened to anyone else?  What can I try?  Thanks!

    Try this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Now download and install OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.3 (Combo).

  • Applications Hang when selecting / attaching a file using Spotlight

    Hi,
Having a problem since upgrading to Snow Leopard with applications 'hanging' when trying to attach a file using Spotlight. I can repeatedly cause the failure in Mail and Safari - and probably others as well - but these two applications I use most often and need to attach files to most often.
When I select "Attach a file", and use Spotlight to find the file to attach, the file dialog box closes and the attachment is apparently made - seconds later the spinning wheel appears and the dock tells me "Application Not Responding."
Any ideas as to how / why this is happening? Help make it stop!
    Thank you,
    Gordon.

    OK Search box
Mine is OK so something is screwy..
In your Finder Prefs > Advanced > When performing a search drop down. Search this Mac seems to be default and the one I have set. Have you got it set to search the current folder or use the previous search instead?
I'd then pull out the com.apple.finder.plist from your user Library > Preferences to the desktop and let finder make a new one. If all is OK trash the old one.
Relaunch Finder by holding down the option key while right clicking Finder icon in the dock. Relaunch will be on the bottom of the context menu.

  • I cannot attach files in Gmail within Firefox. I can attach files in Gmail from Chrome and IE.

I know it has been mentioned elsewhere too ( https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/999383 ), but I cannot reply to that message... so, here it is again, with full details of the testing we have performed so far....
ALL users or our organization are currently affected.
When you try to attached a doc, xls, pdf, etc. in Gmail the results are all the same in Firefox. You get a red bar with "attachment failed" and an option to cancel or retry.
We have tested with our Proxy On and Off. We have tested with no extensions loaded (I get the message with my 3 extensions on or off -- Adblock+, Ghostery, HTTPS Everywhere). Versions on which the issue has been seen include 25, 26, 28, 28.0.1 and 29.0.1 (the latest as of this post). Most users in our organization do not use extensions with Firefox.
Attachments link up just fine in IE 10 and 11, and Chrome (with Adblock, Ghostery, and HTTPS Everywhere turned on). This error is only seen in Firefox, with or without plug-ins.
Operating Systems used for testing were Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
The issue was first reported to us today, 5/13/14, but it is unknown if the issue has been around longer. However, Firefox is our organization's default browser due to countless web software vendor recommendations. We most likely would have heard before today if the issue has happened previously.
Any tips or suggestions would be welcome here.

Without trying any of the fixes, the issue seems to have gone away on its own. All users (of about 7 reporting in) can attach files within Gmail using Firefox as of 5/15. We did not try any of the 4 fixes listed above. On 5/13 and 5/14, users could not attach files to Gmail messages within Firefox.
However, on the day of the issue we did try all the mentioned fixes (except #4). All affected users had all history and cache wiped, updated to v29.0.1, and the latest Flash plug-in from Adobe.com. We have the browsers set to clear all history, temp files, cookies, etc. at exit to avoid any cached data issues. We tried with proxy on and off too. Attachments were in the 20K-35K range, so very small. They failed on 5/13 and 5/14 within Firefox, but attached fine in IE and Chrome on the same days.
So, not sure what the issue was, what caused, or why it went away... but we cannot reproduce today, as of 5/15.
Thanks for the tips. I'll bookmark them if the issue reappears.

  • I suddenly cannot attach any file to an email whilst using Firefox 5.

My preferred browser is Firefox 5, which I have been using trouble-free until now. All of the sudden, I am unable to attach any file to an email. I simply get a file loading attempt that never times out. At first I thought it was a Yahoo problem, but my work email server will not add attachments either. I downloaded Google Chrome just now as a test, and still can't add attachments. Might this be a Windows problem? Anyone run into this? Thank you. I am my own IT department and it is sad... Katherine

    Try clearing your browser cache.
Tools > Clear Recent History... - hit Details and make sure only Cache is selected, then select Everything and hit the Clear Now button.
