I cannot change folders in Mail.

A few weeks ago, Mail stopped opening, but I fixed it by looking through posts that were similar to my problem. However, once I got mail working again, I was no longer able to do anything to the account. I can't create or delete mailboxes. Any mailbox I select is highlighted in gray. Also, under the Trash mailbox, there are now two "sub"trashes: "On My Mac" and "[email protected]" (my mac.com email account). These were not there before. I created my mac.com account with set up assistant, and it organized Mail automatically. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

I don't understand this either. The mailbox is supposed to be highlighted if you select it, so what exactly is the problem here?
Also, under the Trash mailbox, there are now two "sub"trashes:
"On My Mac" and "[email protected]" (my mac.com email account).
This is normal. There is a Trash mailbox for each account, plus one for local "On My Mac" mailboxes.
These were not there before.
This is normal too. Most mailboxes used by Mail are created only when needed to actually store something in them.

TS3988 I cannot change the incoming mail sever

I recently set up two aliases through iCloud and then added them as new email accoutns to my email client on my computer. However, I cannot click on the field to change the incoming mail server. There is a generic greyed out 'mail.example.com', but I cannot change that on either account. I also have squiggly lines nest to the inboxes on the email client. When I click on those, I am asked to put in a password. The only password I know to put in is my iCloud Password, but that doesn't work, and it asks again.
Can anyone please help?

I am up against the same problem with a reticent Incoming Mail Server field as I attempt to set up IMAP accounts for my original mac.com alias addresses. I've tried deleting the incomplete account setups, then recreating an identical account using "imap.mail.me.com" without success. Nor have I found any improvement by changing the Account Type from an iCloud IMAP to a plain IMAP account…and back again.
The field labeled Alias appears to offer a choice of Custom or Edit Aliases but attempts to make a different selection are futile…the setting remains on Custom.
Curiously, however, my primary mac.com address appears to be operating correctly, though it requires an altogether different IMAP address — po3-imap.mail.me.com. Presumably, a solution exists; however, it remains elusive and far from intuitive to this observer. Any insight from more experienced users than I will be gratefully received! Thank you.
n.b.: a conversation with an AppleCare specialist left him equally perplexed and questioning whether a mac.com alias email address can, indeed, be set up in iCloud to work alongside ones primary mac.com address.

I need an AppleScript to change folders in Mail

I know the issue of rules sorting your mail, but the folder counts not changing, is an issue that has been addressed several times. I have most recently posted in this thread asking for a solution: http://tinyurl.com/abgog7
I am thinking that there may be a solution (albeit a messy one) using AppleScript. Can someone advise me if it would be possible to write an AppleScript that would actually touch the folder that messages are filtered into when a rule is run? Actually touching the folder is the only way to make the new message count update.
Unfortunately, I have zero knowledge of AppleScript & a search has turned up nothing that could be used or even modified to do what I want. I am hoping someone out there can at least tell me if this is possible.

Well, that was fast! I found a batch of Mail Scripts very originally called Mail Scripts 2.9 (http://tinyurl.com/jgrlv). In the batch of scripts, it has a specific script that will do exactly what I wanted it to do which is move to the mailbox a message is filtered into.
Now I need to see what happens when multiple rules are run at the same time filtering into several folders & hopefully it will not break the script.

You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
          •          Server name: imap.mail.me.com
          •          SSL Required: Yes
          •          Port: 993
          •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
          •          Password: Your iCloud password
SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
          •          Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
          •          SSL Required: Yes
          •          Port: 587
          •          SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
          •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
          •          Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria: 8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers. If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message. Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

Cannot change fonts in Mail version 3.1

When I start a new message in mail, if I want to change the font I can't access the font tool either by selecting the font button in the outgoing message tool bar or by the drop down format menu ( or by "command T"). I can, however, go into preferences and change fonts universally. Basically if I cut and paste a sentence from another message or word doc into an outgoing mail message that is a different size or font and I want to make all the fonts the same, nothing happens, no font tool window appears.

I ran into the same issue yesterday and have tried to change the language from English to German. I have restarted iTunes as requested. The weird thing now is: The settings show German, but iTunes still is in English. I have then set the language to French and restarted iTunes and... It was French.... Then I put the settings back to German with the result that iTunes is Englich again. I have no solution and I am curious if this is a programming issue as it seems I am not the only one here from Germany.... Any ideas???

I reset my apple ID password and realized my e-mail address has been changed. I cannot retrieve my password because I cannot get the email. So I am stuck in a loop with the apple support page. I cannot change my forgotten password or my email address?

You apparently did not migrate your MobileMe account to iCloud before 1 August? In this case your MobileMe account has been permanently deleted and all its contents lost, as was announced over a year ago.
Your signature says your Mac has 10.6.8; you cannot set up an iCloud account on that. However you can reactivate your @me.com address (though not retrieve its contents including any aliases) by going to Settings>iCloud on your iPhone (iOS5 required), signing in with your @me.com address and password, and enabling Mail in the list there.
That done, you can set up Mail manually on Snow Leopard to access your iCloud email:

I would just follow the instructions from this article to give your unused 4s to your spouse. Since you have already started using your 5s, you will still be receiving iMessages on that phone and will have no need to receive them on a device that has been replaced. To change the iCloud ID ("email address") you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted. If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

This problem does not affect new public folders, only old ones that have probably been on Exchange 2000/2003 servers in the past. Migrations I believe did go smoothly but now have errors.

From ExFolders we get error "Exception: Object Reference not set to an instance of an object"
Any thought on how to fix permissions, people who already had permission in the past can see and access them OK and all objects, but we cannot change/update or remove permissons

For how to use ADSIEdit ,you can access:

1.Run ADSIEdit, right click Exchange Administrative Group under “Configuration \ services \ Microsoft
Exchange \ Organization name \ Administrative groups”.
2.Select New Object.
3.Select msExchPublicFolderTreeContainer for the class and click Next.
4.Enter the following for the value:
Folder Hierarchies, click Next.
5.Click Finish.
6.Create
Public Folder Tree Object.
7.Right click CN=Folder Hierarchies -> New Object.
8.Selected msExchPFTree for the class.
9.For the value we entered, "Public Folders" and clicked next.
10.Clicked on the "More Attributes" button, selected msExchPFTreeType .
11.Set the value
to 1.
Note: This is very important that this value is set
to a value of 1 as This tells Exchange that this is a MAPI Tree.
12.Click Ok and then finish.
13.We then went
to the properties of the newly created "Public Folders" Tree object in
ADSIEdit.
14.Copy the distinguished name value
to the clipboard and then click cancel.
15.Navigate
to the Storage group that contains the Public
Folder Store for this server and get properties of the server.
16.Locate the msExchOwningPFTree attribute and paste in the value that was copied
from the Public folders Distinguish name attribute.
17.Restart the Information Store Service.
18.Mounted and dismount the PF store.
19.Open Outlook with administrator,give full permission to default owner.

I ran my anti virus and Malwarebites: nothing abnormal was detected...........?
Note. at almost the same time my Firefox 34.0.5 browser also developped a problem. It does not load my chosen Startpage (Google.com) anymore but loads Google.es ( es = Spain/Europe, where I live)
