I cannot clear a signature!

Hello!
I'm using an Oberthur token for Digital Signature and my computer crashed after I have signed a document, but before I input de password for the token. Now the signature is not valid and I cannot erase it. The only options I have for that signature are: Validate Signature, View Signed Version, Show Signature Properties...
Can somebody please explain in detail to me how can I erase this signature tor esign the document? I'm using the latest Adobe reader version! Thank you!

The point is that this is trivial to achieve for anyone, even if the file is locked after signing.
They just need to keep a copy of the unsigned file, delete the signed one, and replace it with the unsigned file. So such protection means nothing.
Repudiating signatures is a very bad thing, but it can only have real meaning if someone or some process knew about the signing. Otherwise, it's like someone signing a piece of paper, and destroying their signed copy without showing it to anyone; it's as if it never happened, and nothing was gained.  If on the other hand a person has received the signed file, or a process has securely archived it, then removing a signature has no repudiating effect on the copy.
It can be hard to convert paper-based to electronic-based workflows where files can be freely duplicated, shared etc.
Clearly, though, if a person can sign a file, then others can act on that signature, and then the signer can still edit the original signed file, there is a big problem, not just of repudiation but of auditability.

  • Clearing digital signatures

    Hope someone can help.
I've used the digital signatures tool under Tools/Forms menu to add sgnature fields for our firm and our clients to sign. What I want is to be able to lock those signatures once they are signed. I have gone to the Properties of each signature box and under the Signed tab, I have checked the middle button for Mark as Read-Only, then selcted just the signature box I want locked. I then add my digital signature and send the document to clients for their signatures.
Problem is that I can still clear the signature I entered after it comes back. I cannot clear the clients' signature but my understanding is that once I enter my digital signature, it should not be able to be changed, even by me.
    Am I doing something wrong?

You can set up PDF with multiple signatures -- the challenge is to define "changes" to the document that could invalidate it. Technically adding another signature changes the document. Using a certified document approach that allows form fill-in and digital signatures only means that if anyone make changes other than filling in a form field or signing a signature field, the entire document becomes "invalid".
You can find more information on the certified document approach at:

Hi I'm running Addressbook and cannot clear previous entry easily when searching my data base of around 5,000 contacts.
I prefer to view in All contacts on a double page spread with details on the right page.  Searching doesn't seem to work correctly in this view.
It's always the second search that is problematic.
I've tried typing over and all it seems to do is confine the search to the the entries that have come up for the previous search.
I've tried to use the x to clear the previous entry and then type the next search, same problem.  The only way seems to be to move from "All Contacts" to "Groups".  Then the searched name appears and I can return to All Contacts to see full details.
Surely three key press' are not the way it's supposed to work?

  • Cannot validate digital signature - Reader 11.0.10 on Windows 8.1

We cannot validate digital signatures in Adobe Reader 11.0.10 on a Windows 8.1 PC, but the same signatures/documents can be validated in the same version of Reader on Windows 7 Pro. Is there a known issue with signature validation in Reader XI and Windows 8/8.1?

    Hi CTMutual_CMHC,
This might not have happened for Windows 8.
Could you please try validating signatures in some different PDF and check.
You can also refer the following link for the same:

If the issue persists, then try installing the latest version of Reader from here:
Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions
Let me know how it goes.

  • A way to clear digital signatures with presence = "hidden"

LCD 9, Dynamic forms using digital signatures, Reader 9x
I discovered this by accident, so wondering if this is a design feature or a bug.
I have a dynamic form and have sub-forms throughout it.  I create a flowed subform for my digital signature that has fields to collect information and then place a fixed subform inside that that actually contains the signature field.
    Page1 (flowed)
    - SignatureBlocks (subform - flowed)
                    - Field1 (textfield)
                    - Field2 (textfield)
                    -InitSig (subform - flowed)
                                    -Field3 (textfield)
                                    -Field 4(textfield)
                                                    -FixedSub (subform - fixed)
                                                                    -DigitalSig (signature field)
                    -ReviseSect1 (checkbox)
-CALCchkRevise (checkbox – calculated read only)
DigitalSig locks down various fields in the form.
My problem has always been that when the form goes to the next person for review there was no option to push the form back a state and allow the prior user to change info that was locked by DigitalSig.  Until I discovered this:
If I place a checkbox (ReviseSect1) outside of “InitSig” subform and then run a calculation checkbox (CALCchkRevise) that sets the PRESENCE to “hidden” for InitSig if ReviseSect1 == 1, then toggle ReviseSect1 back to 0 my digital signature is cleared and thus all fields that were locked are now un-locked!
    CAR-1601-FM01.Section1.SignatureBlocks.CALCchkRevise::calculate - (JavaScript, client)
    if(ReviseSect1.rawValue == 1)
        SignatureBlocks.InitSig.presence = "hidden";
    else
        SignatureBlocks.InitSig.presence = "visible";
Is this a design feature or a bug?  I like it as I now can have a reviewer toggle the ReviseSect1 checkbox which erases the digital signature and thus opens all those locked fields back up for editing.  Before I push this throughout my form (which has many signatures and review cycles) I want to be sure this is not a fluke that will go away when Adobe pushes its 1,037th update for the week for Reader.  If you hide a subform that contains a digital signature then un-hide it is it the design feature of hidden/visible to clear the signature?  Or is this a bug that will be patched?

A better way is to set two codes on the ReviseSect1 checkbox.  CLICK sets the subform invisible and also sets the value of the checkbox to 0 (so that the user does not come back to un-click it and wipe out the signature again).  Then put a MOUSE EXIT code that sets the subform to visible.  In that way the user clicks the box and the signature subform hides, erasing the signature and un-locking the fields.  As soon as they mouse out of the checkbox the subform with the signature becomes visible again.  Nice.

  • How do you unlock fields when clearing the signature using the SignatureServcie?

I have a workflow built using Process Management and is available through Workspace.  A claimant completes their expense report, digitally signs the form and submits it to their approver.  The form is setup to lock a set of fields after signature.  The approver then has the option to approve or disapprove the form.  When they disapprove the workflow clears the digital signature using Clear Signature Field operation in the SignatureService and routes it back to the claimant.  When the form is opened by the claimant the digital signature has been cleared as expected, but the fields are still locked.  Is there an autoamted way to unlock them?  Is this a service configuration issue or is there another service operation we need to call after clearing the signature?
We did try using Javascript to set the readonly property on the field with no luck. Any thoughts?
We are developing on ES3 and will be upgrading to ES4 in the next week.

You need to link the image.  See the example for the Canada flag below.
    <img src="http://forums.ni.com/ni/attachments/ni/130/6908/1/Canada-small.PNG" border=0>
Replace with the image you like.  This goes into the signature box within the profile tab of the personal settings.

  • Cannot Clear Critical Alert for Physical Standby Databases

10.2.0.4.0 Grid Control monitoring 10.2.0.4.0 databases and standby databases with 10.2.0.4.0 agents.
The standby databases are running on Xen guests. The O/S is Red Hat 4 Advanced Server.
I had a failure of Xen guest on Saturday that caused me to have to rebuild the standby servers. EM Grid Control successfully verifies the configurations and the status is normal for both physical standby databases. (A rebuilt logical standby database shows no alerts.)
Grid Control database targets page shows a single critical alert for each physical standby database. The alert is for "number of missing media files is 4". The metric graph shows the count as 0 since before the rebuilds. I cannot clear the alerts from the Critical Alerts page. Grid Control reports "The selected alert(s) cannot be manually cleared. They will clear automatically once the metric is no longer in a critical or warning state.".
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Ray Westphal

    Thanks for the reply Anthony.
The result of the query on both standby databases is '0'. The metric graph also shows the value at '0' since before rebuilds.
And the OMS db and agents have been reset several times since I posted this.

  • Clearing Digital Signature Adobe Pro 9.4.5?

I have a need to edit several PDF files I created in 2008 AND signed. I am unable to clear the signature field to perform the edits, the "Clear Signature" option is not available on these documents. I suspect this is due to the Digital ID used in 2008 NOT being available on the current PC, since on recently created PDF files I have no problem clearing the signature.
I am guessing here that the digital ID is lost when wiping or replacing a hard drive or obtaining a new PC???
Question is as follows: Is there a way to "open" my own documents for editing purposes when the "clear signature" option is not available? I guess a companion question for future reference would be if the lack of the original digital ID is the problem, is there a way to transfer the digital ID to replacement hardware so that legacy documents I have signed could be opened for editing?
    SHG

    Hi Shelby,
All I meant by escrow was to save off a copy of the digital ID file in a safe location. As complex as the terminology can be in the PKI universe, in this case escrow isn't one to the bazillion (a highly technical term ) PKI acronyms.
As far as digital ID files go, they either have a .P12 extension or a .PFX extension and the end goal is to find or create one.
Digital IDs can reside in several different location; a file (see above), the Windows Certificate Store (in this case think of "store" as storage, not as a place you buy things), the Mac Keychain, a hardware device such as a smart card or token, or a server. The place you want to start is in the Security Settings dialog as it will tell you where the digital ID resides. To get there:
Select the Advanced > Security Settings menu item
Select Digital IDs from the tree view on the left side of the Security Settings dialog
In the list view on the upper right of the Security Settings dialog is a column labeled Storage Mechanism
That's where you find where the digital ID resides. If it says Digital ID File then you've already have it in file format. To see exactly where the file is located expand Digital IDs in the tree view and select Digital ID Files. In the list view on the upper right of the Security Settings dialog is a column labeled Folder, and that's where the file is.
If the Storage Mechanism says Windows Certificate Store you have to use Windows to export the digital ID to a file. Although there are a couple of ways to do this, the easiest is to use Windows Internet Explorer.
    Launch the IE browser
Select Tools > Internet Options (depending on the version of IE you might find Tools on the menu or as a toolbar button)
Select the Content tab on the Internet Options dialog
    Click the Certificates button
Select the Personal tab on the Certificates dialog (it is the default, so you shouldn't need to click on it)
Highlight the digital ID you want to export from the list view and then click the Export button
    Follow the on screen instructions
Just be sure that you save the file to a safe place that gets backed-up and you remember the password.

  • Mail cannot clear Drafts in .OfflineCache but can save to Drafts on server

OK, I've been chasing this problem (and other related issues) for three days now and I'm at wits end.
I see that I am not alone with the the Mac Mail app getting stuck with messages in its .OfflineCache folder for an email account that it can not process. The common response is to quite Mail, and delete the contents of .OfflineCache, if not the whole directory.
In the case in front of me now, I have 7 versions of a draft message (destined for "Drafts"), a delete of that draft message and a copy of that message destined for "Sent Messages". Obviously, for a while Mail could not execute these commands to the IMAP server at SpamArrest.
What I don't understand is why can I continue to save new files to Drafts and Sent Messages but the .OfflineCache cannot clear itself?
I don't want to just delete the files in .OfflineCache (partly because I need the one in Sent Messages) but I because that is just treating the symptom and not fixing the recurring problem of messages ending up .OfflineCache on a fairly regular basis.
Why can't Mail clear the .OfflineCache?

I keep looking at the IMAP protocol output from the Connection Doctor and I'm stymied at why I'm getting a time out. In tracing the log, I see us connect on port 993 with thread 0x187564f0:
    CONNECTED May 24 23:00:28.046 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNegotiatedSSL] -- host:mail.spamarrest.com -- port:993 -- socket:0x1917bbc0 -- thread:0x187564f0
We then start a new thread 0x191581a0 which performs all the subsequent actions including the APPEND:
    WROTE May 24 23:00:29.286 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNegotiatedSSL] -- host:mail.spamarrest.com -- port:993 -- socket:0x1917bbc0 -- thread:0x191581a0

    READ May 24 23:00:29.356 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNegotiatedSSL] -- host:mail.spamarrest.com -- port:993 -- socket:0x1917bbc0 -- thread:0x191581a0
    + OK
    WROTE May 24 23:00:29.367 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNegotiatedSSL] -- host:mail.spamarrest.com -- port:993 -- socket:0x1917bbc0 -- thread:0x191581a0
    X-Uniform-Type-Identifier: com.apple.mail-draft
    From: Chip Roberson <[email protected]>
The next thing I see is a timeout on thread, 0x191581a0:
    READ May 24 23:01:29.355 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNegotiatedSSL] -- host:mail.spamarrest.com -- port:993 -- socket:0x1917bbc0 -- thread:0x191581a0
    * BYE Disconnected for inactivity
It would seem that my client is in a wait state, waiting for a response from the WRITE which it does not get a response. Given that I have written to this Drafts folder before, I know it can be done but right now I can't.
SpamArrest swears they don't see anything on their side and that the problem must be on my Mac but what could it be?
The only other clue is that immediately after the Disconnect message, I get the hashtable error:
    READ May 24 23:01:29.437 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNegotiatedSSL] -- host:mail.spamarrest.com -- port:993 -- socket:0x1917bbc0 -- thread:0x187564f0
BYE [ALERT] Fatal error: INTERNAL ERROR: Keyword hashtable memory corruption: Input/Output error
That seems to be a direct result of the timeout but it's hard to know for sure. I wish I knew what "keyword hashtable".
I've done all the standard stuff (e.g. rebuilding, reindexing, permissions, etc.) so I'm struggling to find something else to do. I just wish I could get some more visibility into the problem. Given the symptoms I'm seeing in other threads in this forum, I don't think I'm on the only one with this problem. Am I?

  • Cannot clear answers in quiz after returning from jump to slide.

Hi, I apologize if this has been answered previously. I couldn't find a thread containing the information.
I recently upgraded from Captivate 6 to 8 (yes, I know...) and when I created the quiz for this project, I have the learners who answer the questions incorrectly going through remediation using the jump to slide on last attempt. The jump to works fine and returning to the quiz works fine. However, when the learner returns to the quiz, the previous incorrect answers are still displayed and the clear button is non-functional. This doesn't allow them to revise their answer and move forward.
I compared it to a similar project that I created in Captivate 6, and it seems that all the options in the quiz preferences and the question's quiz properties are the same, yet it is working properly in the Captivate 6 project (even when previewed in Captivate 8).
Am I overlooking something simple here?
    Thanks!

Indeed, the On Exit event is not to be trusted at all, you need an
interactive object, that gets a double functionality. In the video it has
Continue or Return to Quiz, but you can also use 'Go to Next Slide' instead
of Continue. Sorry that I didn't point immediately to that video. It is
    short but pretty clear.
