I cannot connect to the iTunes store. I have internet connectivity.

Trying to connect to the iTunes store, which I previously could do from this computer (and the other computers in my house can all connect) I get a timeout error or the window simply stops responding. If I check my available downloads from the Store, I am told I do not have any, so it is getting that information. When I look at my account information under the store, it all is correct and active.
Any ideas?

Rented or purchased video are watched through the videos app after you have downloaded them, iTunes on iOS devices is for buying media only.

Usually it's because you are not making internet connection via wifi.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

If you mean a newsstand subscription then try logging into your itunes account on a mac or pc.
Subscriptions can be cancelled from within there.

Go to the front page of the Store, and click Change Country. Make sure it is set to the country where you actually are.
Then you will be able to see everything that is for sale in your country, which, depending where you live, might or might not include music.

Me too - running iTunes 10.5.3 on Windows 7. Will allow me to sign in to iTunes, download app updates and then if I either close iTunes or try to sign out of my iTunes account it all freezes. So frustrating, because my understanding is that iTunes saves the library file when exiting. So, everytime I update apps I lose all the downloads.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Does the iTunes Store still have $4.99 movies? If they do, how do you find them? It seems that the iTunes Store no longer links to discounted movies.

Thanks to Jesse M for the "See all >>" suggestion, which is better than nothing, and to iNexxFear for all your hard work, but I absolutely need the search results to come up with full functionality. The possibility of searching painstakingly by separate categories for Composer, Album etc. merely puts me at the mercy of the overworked, undereducated interns who have to type in such information, unaided of course by iTunes' hopelessness at categorising anything other than pop songs.

I can't connect to the itunes store and have some problems with other websites. Some websites load OK. I had the same problem on my iPad and changed the DNS, but don't want to do this on my iMac, anyway, surely I should have my router's DNS?

I can't connect to the iTunes store from my iMac and have problems loading a number of other websites, however some websites load perfectly well. I have had the iTunes store issue on my iPad and resolved it by changing the DNS but surely I should use the DNS for my router. I don't really want to change it for the iMac as I access secure sites with it to internet shop.
Any ideas, I was going to try loading Chrome but can't get it without going through the iTunes store. Anyway, that is treating the symprom not the cause.
