I cannot create a bookmark - is it a virus

I am computer literate. My "bookmark this page' used to work and I have multiple bookmarks. Suddenly it no longer permits me to bookmark. When I select ""bookmark this page" nothing happens, nothing. And no window opens to ask me to select the location etc. for the bookmark. Can you help me? Should I be suspicious of a virus?

Same symptoms happen each time I have upgraded Firefox recently & went back to pre 3.6.18 version all OK....Firefox upgraded itself to 3.6.18 again couple of days ago & back to same symptoms.....found its a conflict with my McAfee Site Advisor add-on which is not compatible with newest versions of FFox.
If you have MSA try disabling the MSA add-on
Tools - Add-Ons - Extensions tab - Select MSA & disable then restart Firefox
See if that cures it.....I had same problem with Firefox 5

  • After upgrade to 6.3.4 cannot create new bookmarks by dragging nor open existing bookmark properties

Just upgraded to 3.64. Now I cannot create new bookmarks either by dragging a URL or trying to create a new one in organize bookmarks. For existing bookmarks when I hit properties on the pop up menu all I get is a title bar that says "bookmark properties for (name of bookmark)" but I can't resize it or otherwise manipulate the title bar to access information or change the properties

    Hello Victor.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

  • I cannot create new bookmark folders

When I try to create a new bookmark folder, the option appears gray in my toolbox and won't let me use it. I can't seem to create new folders though I can use old ones.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

    Hi everyone,
I cannot create a bookmark list in safari. every time it goes back to the default bookmark list after i reopen safari. i've tried to delete "bookmark" folder from user/username/library/safari, but there's only "extensions" folder there, no "bookmark" folder... i've also tried to create a bookmark folder but it didn't work.    i'm using MBP, safari 8.0.4     thanks!

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • BEX : Cannot Create BookMark

    Hi,
I have a user who's running a query in the BEX query designer. After executing the query , user wants to save the output as a bookmark however he's getting "You do not have access authorization, cannot create bookmark".  I ran a trace in BI for the user and nothing came up as failing and also looked through the error logs using t/code RSECADMIN, no errors. Does anyone know what authorization object is needed to create a bookmark?

  • How do you lock a PDF file so that the user cannot create or delete bookmarks?

How do you lock a PDF file so that the user cannot create or delete bookmarks?
    Thanks!

There's no way to lock bookmarks specifically, but if you you can apply a
security policy to prevent editing the PDF in general.

  • Cannot create bookmarks in ibooks authur

I am currently unable to create/add bookmarks in iBooks Authur, following the instructions to do so does not work as the + sign used to add highlighted text as a bookmark is greyed out...any ideas?
Why is the + greyed out?
    Is there another way?
    Thanks

If its any consolation...... my  iBooks Author has stopped allowing me to make bookmarks!
Before the last update all was OK, but checking the process to make a reply... I  find  that I now have the same problem.
I  will shortly take my own advice during a clean out of apps  I no longer want or use, along with anything else that  clutters up my iMac and  I will include iBooks Author, flushing out the cache if it evades AppDelete - and  doing a re-install to  see if that cures the  issue.

  • Cannot save a bookmark to NEW folder - FF wants me to rename EXISTING parent folder

I cannot save a bookmark to a new folder. This is the path I am taking from the main menu:
    Bookmarks | Bookmark This Page
Click the drop-down arrow to the right of Folder
    Select Choose
Scroll to the parent folder in which I would like a new subfolder
    Click New Folder
Then, instead of creating a new folder as it always did in the past, it highlights the parent folder for editing. If I type in a new folder name, the parent folder is changed to that new name. A new subfolder is created with the name New Folder.
Things I have already tried that did *not* resolve the problem:
    - Deleting and then restoring bookmarks from a saved bookmark backup file.
    - Running the Add-On "Places Maintenance"
    - Rebuild "Places" database
I have not yet reset Firefox or created a new profile but can try that if you gurus think that would help.
I am using FF 32.0.2 on Win XP SP3.
I have hundreds and hundreds of bookmarks, but from what I have read, there is no max size limit.
    Thank you in advance!
    Carol

Cor-el, thank you very for your reply.
I started Firefox in Safe Mode. The problem still occurs in Safe Mode. My understand is if the problem persists in Safe Mode, it is *not* being caused by an extension, theme or hardware acceleration. Other possible causes could be plugins or changes made to Firefox preference settings, which are not disabled in Safe Mode.
As you suggested, I did check Add-ons > Appearance. (I don't think I have ever had any Appearance other than the default theme.) It was and still is set at Default 32.0.2 By Mozilla. Since the bookmarks problem persists in Safe Mode, I think we can rule out this as the cause anyway.
All of my Plug-Ins are up-to-date except iTunes Application Detector 1.0.1.1. Status is "unknown". I have all Plug-Ins set to "Ask to Activate" or "Never Activate". None of them are set to "Always Activate".
My cache, cookies and history have been cleared. I have rebooted my computer.
Per your instructions, I did *not* reset Firefox. Should I reset Firefox or reinstall Firefox?
    The bookmarks problem still occurs.
    Thank you so much!
    Carol

  • Creating a bookmark in BI 7.0

u2018Open/save function is not possible for selected resource; cannot create bookmarku2019
What could be the issue. Any suggestion/advice will be helpful.

    Hi,
First of all whats the difference between bookmark and save to my portfolio.
How this can be configured as no one can execute this functionality at my place and if its only authorisation specific what particular authorisation objects needed to make this happen.
    Thanks in advance.

  • I cannot add any bookmarks to my existing ones with the new 30.0 firefox.

I updated to firefox 30.0. Now, I can't create any new bookmarks. I've clicked on the little star icon and it bops over to the clipboard icon. However, when I check for unsorted bookmarks it does not appear. I have checked in the bookmarks button at the top of the page and it shows up nowhere. I've never had a problem with bookmarks before and have sorted them into many folders. I have tried several things, and no matter what I have done I cannot create a new bookmark. I reset firefox to default, but this still did not fix my bookmark problem. I tried erasing a few bookmarks to make room, but that didn't help. I tried dragging the address straight into my folders. This used to work on the old version. Now, no matter what I do I cannot create a new bookmark. This is very frustrating. I wish I hadn't updated. My MacBook Air is less than a year old and uses OS X.

You can check for problems with the <b>places.sqlite</b> database file in the Firefox profile folder.

  • Cannot Create PDF in Adobe Acrobat 8

I'm using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 and I cannot create a pdf from a *.docx file and *.doc file.  Word 2007 does have the Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin listed as a trusted site.
When I try to Create PDF from Multiple files the error message is Cannot convert file type to PDF.  Please remove this file from the list.
Is there a way to create a pdf file in Adobe 8 with 2007 and 2003 documents?

In WORD 2007 you should have a create PDF menu set. That is the PDF Maker that works with AA8. There could also be some issues with the OS which you did not mention. AA8 is not certified for use on Win7 and is a potential problem. I suspect that you do not have PDF Maker for AA8 active in WORD. You can always print to the Adobe PDF printer to create a PDF, you just lose some of the bookmark and related options.

  • Can't create new bookmarks in safari. Lost all my existing book marks

Lost all bookmarks, cannot create new ones.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
    Quit Safari.
    Select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window should open with a file named "Bookmarks.plist" selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the folder open.
Relaunch Safari. It will open with the default set of bookmarks. Delete them all. Select
File ▹ Import from... (or Import Bookmarks...)
from the Safari menu bar. Import from the bookmarks file you moved to the Desktop. Arrange the bookmarks as you wish.
If Safari now performs normally, you can delete the old bookmarks file. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put back the file you moved, replacing the newer one with the same name. Close the Finder window and post your results.

  • How do I search for a folder I created in bookmarks?

I understand how to find what folder a bookmark is in but cannot find a method of searching for a folder I have created in bookmarks.

I was aware of the way to search for bookmarks by the two methods you describe i.e using either the library or the sidebar but once you start typing both methods only list the matching bookmarks and not the bookmark folders.
I am aware I can manually search for a folder by using the sidebar and library (I think you also refer to the library as the bookmarks manager) by opening up the hierarchial trees of the folders I have created. It can be a bit labourious when like me you have hundreds of bookmarks folders!
I've heard the orange firefox button being referred to before, if it's the firefox icon in the top left corner I do not get a file menu when clicking upon it?

  • Cannot create your bootable usb stick

    Hi all,
I'm new to bootcamp and I have the following problem:
When I'm creating a Windows 7 usb drive, it gives me an error "Cannot create your bootable usb stick there was a problem copying files".
I've tried searching google for the problem, but the only possible solutions I've got was to unmount the iso image and try again, but when I do that I still get the same error and when I check the disk utility I find the iso image is mounted again.
Does anyone haven an idea about what to do.

  • Cannot create recovery disk after update to Win 8.1 on G580

    Friends
I have a Lenovo G580 that came with Win 8.0 preinstalled. I upgraded it to Win 8.1 over the Internet.
When I try to run the "Create recovery disk" I get the error that states that "We cannot create a recovery drive for this PC. Some required files are missing..."
I found out that the winre.wim file that is supposed to be in the C:\Windows\System32\Recovery folder is not there. I cannot locate it anywhere on the C or D drives either. I believe there is a copy on one or more of the recovery partitions but I do not know how to get that file from those partitons.
I am confused as to why there are seven partitions on that one drive:
    1 Recovery partition 1000 MB
2 EFI system partition 260 MB
    3 OEM partition 1000 MB
    4. Recovery partition 350 MB
    5. Recovery partition 20 GB
    6. Lenovo D: 25 GB
    7. Windows 8 C: 250 GB
Can someone help me and give me some instructions on how I can fix the system to find the winre.wim file?
    Thanks for any good input.
    Calle

    Hi Calle,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that the error message is displayed in your G580 Laptop, as the OS (Operating System) installed is Windows 8.1 or Windows 8. Recovery discs cannot be created only a “Recovery Media” can be created using USB Flash drive, below is the link to create USB recovery drive.
    Create a USB Recovery Drive
Do post us back if the issue persists.
