I cannot delete mail in Mavericks

Hello Apple (eees).
I cannot delete any mail in Mavericks!
If for instance I select the trash folder, select all and click delete the items disappear.
If I then click on the inbox (or any other mail folder) then click back on trash all the deleted messages have returned from the grave (maybe something to do with Halloween).
In addition the 'all mail' folder tells me I have over 2000 messages, I have less than 100!
If I do a rebuild the progress meter tells me it is receiving several thousand emails, none of which ever arrive
I am using brand new latest top spec MacBook Pro, mail service is virginmedia imap.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards to all,
Mark (UK)

iCloud email should automatically resume once you have sufficient storage again.  I haven't seen any documentation on whether or not there's a delay before service resume though.  If you want to get more information you would have to contact Apple support: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/.

  • I cannot delete mail from my inbox and get a message saying (msg) could not be moved to the mailbox trash-POP account".

I suddenly cannot delete mail from my inbox and get a message saying " (msg) could not be moved to the mailbox trash-POP account".  It does not matter if I am trying to delete a single message or mulitiple messages.  Can anyone help?

If you're running Leopard, as your profile says, then you need to post your question in that forum, not the Snow Leopard forums. So if you're really running Snow Leopard, you need to update your profile to show that, as well as give more details about what kind of mail accounts you have, and who your email provider is.

  • Cannot receive mail with mavericks.

Cannot receive mail with mavericks. I have tried all the online tricks and nothing works. Any advice?
    Much appreciated

Thank you Dom, it was however working absolutely fine before mavericks. In fact I have never in all the years had any problems and I have surely not changed the settings. First iOS7 floored my iphone 4, now this, I am not feeling the love from apple. Any other ideas at all? Thanks again

  • Cannot delete mails or rename folders in icloud mail

    Hi evereyone,
I lately realized a strange behaviour of my iCloud mail account.
No matter where I try to rename or delete a folder (icloud.com, iPhone, iPod touch,2 iPads) I get an error message that it is not possible to do so.
If I try to delete a mail (yes, I chose the server's Trash folder in every device's advanced settings) it remains in the inbox,
but also shows up in th trash. So if I delete the same mail 5 times it's still there but there are also 5 copies in the trash.
My mail client of choice is "eM Client" because it can handle icloud mail, contacts and calendar.
Strange enough, I can delete mails in the client. So the IMAP inboxes of the client and my iDevices are not in sync.
But I also cannot delete or rename folders in the client.
No problems with my wife's own iCloud account.
I am using Windows 7 and Firefox. Same problem on Safari.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Bodo

Thanks mate! Who could have known this function was hidden in a tiny symbol on the other side of the screen... quite bad design by Apple and not self explanatory at all!

  • I cannot delete mail folders from any of my accounts

I Have just updated my iPad to iOS 8 and now I cannot delete any of the folders that are in my mail boxes. Every time I hit the delete button in edit mode the iPad just bounces back to ipad home page.

Swiping works to delete e-mails in a folder but does not delete an e-mail folder. I have tried the edit folders then clicking on delete and again it just flashes back to the iPads home page. It worked before I did the update to iOS 8 so must be a programming glitch.

  • "Mail" cannot delete mails on my mac

This is about the application "Mail".
Besides the mailboxes, mail will also list "ON MY MAC" at side bar. Inside each mail account, there will be "All Mail", "Drafts", ... associated with this mail account. The question is that I cannot delete emails in "All Mail". I deleted some emails, then after about 10 minutes, you can see those emails are brought back to "All Mail". I have no idea what have causing those. All I want to do is to delete some ad, some spam emails in my GMAIL account, but those deleted emails (in ON MY MAC -> mail account -> "All Mail") are back agin, agin, and again. This is so annoying! Does anyone know how to deail with this?

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Cannot delete mails in public folders using OWA after applying SP3 RU5

    Hello,
we recently applied service pack 3 rollup 5 to our Exchange 2010 server (before it was running rollup 4).
Ever since, when we try to delete a mail in a public folder using OWA we get the message "An unexpected error occurred and your request couldn't be handled". Each attempt also causes error 108 in the application log (Outlook Web App couldn't
connect Exchange Web Services due to a configuration error. Response code = "500".) which is not accompanied by any other errors.
Neither uninstalling the rollup nor restoring the server's system state to a point before installation of RU4 could fix the error. Deleting mails in a mailbox still works fine, it's only within public folders and only in OWA.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Please refer to the following article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2249852/en-us
The issue occurs when the Internet Information Services (IIS) website that hosts the Exchange Web Services (EWS) virtual directory contains a site binding that binds to an IPv6 address.
Note It is a known issue that this configuration may cause an exception .
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks.

  • Cannot delete mail when over quota

    Hi there,
I have mailbox quotas enabled on a 10.5.5 server, clients who go over 90% of quota get a mail each day telling them to delete mail etc, all seems to work fine in that respect.
However, when they actually try to delete messages they receive the error: -
The message "<message subject>" could not be moved to the mailbox "Deleted Messages - IMAP Account. The IMAP command "UID COPY" (to Deleted Messages) failed for the mailbox "INBOX" with server error: Over quota.
I realise this is to do with deleted messages being set in mail preferences to be stored on the server, but since that is the default setting for new accounts, we have several hundred users, most of which would be incapable of changing the setting on their own (our users are children with learning difficulties).
Is it possible to change this behaviour? I didn't see this problem under 10.5.4 but maybe it just wasn't reported.
Or maybe a way to change each users deleted messages location setting via the WGM > Preferences > Details panel?
    Any advice much appreciated

It doesn't look like it is possible via WGM to switch to a local trash mailbox. Adding com.apple.mail.plist and setting StoreTrashOnServer to "NO" in there appears to have no effect. I guess the next stop is to work out an xsl template we can use to modify each user's plist files directly. What fun.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Being over-quota never stopped users from moving items to trash, and then emptying the trash until now. Our server was previously 10.4.11, migrated (not upgraded) to 10.5.4 in July but only now, since 10.5.5 are we seeing this behaviour.

  • Cannot send mail with mavericks

Hi I'm using an iMac 2011 27 in. Shawcable is my ISP. I can receive mail. I cannot send mail. I get the error "cannot connect to account myaccount, enter password for user myname" If I go into accounts in mail prefs all smtp accounts show as offline.  I have been over all my settings with shaw they say problem is on my end. They say my computer isn't connecting. Anyone have any ideas?
    jmickey42

Without in details on what you have tried, I'll throw out some things:
On the SMTP server settings, use a custom port number instead of using the default ports.
Make sure you don't have any firewall, net-nanny, or other such network blockers running.
In Mail, Open Connection Doctor from the Window menu.
Click Show Detail, then Check Again.
Note any message noted in the stoplight section, and any related to the account in the details.
You may want to sanitize any of the messages from the Details so that it doesn't give away an email account or other identifying info.

  • Cannot delete mail from Archive Folder

I am in the porcess of tryign Mail again, and i must admitt it is a bit of a challenge.
The following problem for example seems so simple but i cannot get it to work.
I have a very large Archive folder that was created i believe from the archive folder from the icloud mail.
I have decided to caopy the Archive folder that Mail created on a seperate hard drive, to increase available storage on my system disk.
Now i want to delete the messages in the Archive folder, but when i select all the messages and then select Delete the messages are cleared from the Archive folder and all seems fine, however within  minutes they are back in the Archive folder, what am i doing wrong?
    thx
    John

Well Kelley, that photo did not come with the system so it had to come from you or someone else putting in the Shared folder.
Choose the file and "get info" (command- i) turn the dislclosure triangle on "Ownership & Permissions" make sure you can "read & write" and make yourself the "owner"(open the lock and enter your admin password).
Then check under General, turn the disclosure triangle and be sure the "locked" box in NOT checked.
    Let us know.

  • Cannot delete mail from inbox

I have been using an iptouch for a long time. Now suddenly I can't delete messages from the inbox. Keep getting an error message. I have tried changing the Trash location in the Settings and also deleting the mail account and re-setting my POP mail (Yahoo mail).
    Very frustrating. Any advice?
    Ken

I have my email set up as an IMAP account and was getting the same "unable to move..." message. I suspected the problem for me had to do something with the trash bin on the phone and the trash bin on the server not communicating properly. I tried this and it worked for me, although from other posts, I see it doesn't work for everyone:
    1. Go to "Settings"
    2. Select "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"
    3. Select the mail account in question
    4. Select "Account Info"
    4. Select "Advanced"
    5. Select "Deleted Mailbox"
    6. Under "On My Server", Click the "Trash" folder (or whatever your trash folder is called on your server). This should put a check mark beside it.

  • Cannot delete Mail message

I have 2 e-mails in my InBox that Mail will not let me delete. When I highlight the message and click delete, the text goes grey, but stays. If I close Mail and re-open, the message is still there and in Black. It is my current e-mail account and not an old deleted account. The preview window shows nothing for either message. Is there a way to "refresh" the contents file? I think mine has become corrupt.
Sorry if this is a duplicate post, but Apple has removed the Search function on the discussions ... any idea why and when it will come back?

I got it! I have 3 accounts and I was selecting the "Inbox" and Rebuild was greyed out. I clicked the down arrow and selected the one that was corrupt and was able to rebuild ... Thanx!

  • Cannot delete mail on iphone 3g

For the last 2 days, every time I delete emails, whether read or not, a few minutes later they re-appear on my iphone. This has happened over and over. I tried a hard restart a couple of times to no avail. Should I backup and re-initialize my iphone? Anyone else ever encountered this odd problem?
    Thanks for any responses

Well I did, all settings the same, and now mail doesn't work at all -- when I press on the mail button I get a blank white screen--AND the phone freezes. If I keep pressing it eventually gets back to the main menu. The phone is also occasionally freezing.

  • Cannot delete mail account, it keeps coming back

I am trying to delete a mail account on my mac book air, with OS X 10.7.5.  Every time I delete it, it goes away until I restart the Mail application.  Then it reappears and reloads the email into my in box.  It is the IMAP account i set up with MobileMe and susequently iCloud
I have removed my connection to iCloud through the system preferences so I have no idea how it is reattaching itself to this account.
Any and all help will be most appreciated!

Turn off Mail and notes syncing in system preferences > iCloud.
