I cannot delete songs from Music on my iPad 2 iOS 7

I swipe from right to left and choose delete. The song is still there with a cloud and down arrow. How can I remove songs from Music on the iPad 2?

I have spent the last two nights trawling forums for an answer and what I have finally found had worked, wasn't actually mentioned anywhere so I feel like I have to share it in case it helps someone else, I was going crazy!!
Firstly, you will need to put all of the music you currently want on your ipad into a playlist in itunes on the computer you're syncing with. This is a sort of start again from scratch type approach seeing as nothing else seemed to work.
1. I turned off my home sharing from settings - music
2. I went to settings - general - usage - music - edit (in top right) - swipe to delete all music
3. Connected to a computer and opened itunes.
4. On the summary page, scroll down to options and select manually manage music and videos. Click APPLY.
5. On the music page untick the sync music box CLICK APPLY.
6. On the on this ipad page, highlight all music (ctrl A) and DEL - it will ask if you want to remove, click ok.
7. Still on the on this ipad page, see the autofill line at the bottom? Click on settings at the right hand side, there is a sliding bar to determine how much space you want to leave free on your ipad for disk space. Then simply select the playlist with all your music in that you want on your ipad to autofill from.
8.Click SYNC.
Huzzah!
I hope thats helped someone else I was literally tearing my hair out over it. It's worked for me, although there is still some music on the on my ipad list, in a faded grey, which isnt actually on my ipad. So thats annoying but not the end of the world.
Apple - it really shouldnt be this difficult!

Using iTunes 11 how do i delete songs from my "manually managed" iPad. (iPad gen 1)
On the old itunes i could simply highlight the songs on my music folder under my iPad connected and remove the ones i no longer wanted. With iTunes 11 when im looking through what is on my iPad i want to delete some songs or movies and it doesnt work. I can do it on the iPad itself. But theres hundreds i want to delete and this would take hours. Has anybody else had this problem?

With iTunes 11, if you haven't already done so then you should be able to enable the left-hand sidebar option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC, and the way that you delete songs should then be the same as how you used to do it e.g. select the Music section under the iPad 'device' on that left-hand sidebar and select and delete the songs that you don't want on the iPad anymore on the right-hand side of iTunes

  • Cannot delete songs from iPod when in manual update mode

    Hi
I am using iTunes 7 and i'm trying to delete some songs just from my iPod and i have always used the manual update option.
The problem is when i go into the songs on my iPod and go into a playlist and try to delete the songs within a playlist it won't let me. BUT when i search for those same songs within my iPod library (library shows all songs on the iPod) i can delete them.
So my problem is i cannot delete songs within playlists just from my iPod. I know that deleting the playlist on the left hand side navigation bar will still keep the songs there, it will only delete the actual playlist.
Also when i select a song(s) the edit menu is all greyed out except for copy.
    Can anyone help please.

Try using the key combination Shift-Delete when deleting from a song from a playlist, this will delete it from the library as well.

  • Cannot delete songs from iPod Touch

    Hi all,
I manage my device content manually on iTunes, and I am trying to delete enough songs from my ipod touch to download the new iOS. I clicked "on this device" in iTunes and deleted the songs I didn't want, but they are still on my device. I've restarted the device and restarted iTunes. When I had unplugged the device and plugged it back in, under "on this device" it does not show the song I tried to delete, but they are still on my device. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    That happens sometimes.
You can either update via iTunes
    or try:
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music

  • Cannot delete songs from iPod Classic - grayed out in playlist

I'm ready to throw this thing out the window. I already had a shuffle, my daughter had a Nano and got a Classic for Christmas. iTunes seems to have no idea how to keep all this straight. When I plugged her new Classic in, it uploaded all of our songs, and (strangely), she doesn't want my songs. I just want to delete them from her Classic, but the songlist of what she has is all gray. I'm afraid to plug any other devices in because who knows what the **** it'll mess up. If only I could figure out how to contact Support.....

    Create a new playlist.
Have her put all the music she wants in that playlist.
    Plug in the ipod.
    Click the Music tab.
    Tick Sync music.
    Tick Selected playlists.
Tick the playlist with her music, then click Apply.
When she wants to add or delete stuff from her iPod, add/remove it from that playlist, then plug in the iPod.

  • Cannot Delete Songs from IPOD MINI

I have read the instructions on this web site, yet my songs on my ipod are "shaded" when they show up on itunes, so I cannot remove unwanted songs from my IPOD. Anyone know what to do?
    Thanks

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer, add or delete etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
How you delete content from your iPod depends how you have it set to update:
When you are updating automatically you delete the files from the iTunes library and next time you connect they will automatically be deleted from your iPod.
If you are updating manually, connect your iPod and click on the icon when it shows in the iTunes source list. Find the files on your iPod that you want to remove, highlight them and delete directly from there.
To select multiple items such as all the songs in an album, click on the first track in the list hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight the selection. Then press the delete key.
To summarise, you start by highlighting the song/video/selection in either the iTunes library or on the iPod song list as displayed in iTunes then press the delete key on your keyboard: Deleting songs or playlists from your iPod
There are also a couple of ways that do not involved deleting from iTunes. The default iPod setting is automatically update with iTunes when connected. You can keep the automatically update setting and select "automatically update selected playlists only" then all you need to do is remove the song from the chosen playlist(s) and update, it remains in your library should you want to add it in future.
Another way but in my opinion more difficult to manage is to choose the "Only update checked songs" option in the iPod Preferences. By un-checking a song in iTunes, it will not be updated to the iPod and if already on the iPod, unchecking the song in iTunes will remove it from the iPod during the next update with iTunes.

  • How to delete songs from music file

Would like to delete all songs from my music file...could delete playlist but not the individual songs

There is nothing to delete, as no iTunes content is included in any iPhone backup.

  • Deleting song from Music

How do I delete a song that I downloaded from the "Purchsed"section of theiTunes store?  To see how it worked I chose one song. Now  I CANNOT get rid of it on the iPad.  Where is the Delete button?

If you slide along the track name whilst on the track list window you should get a Delete button on the right-hand end of the track.

  • Delete song from music app

I have "show all music" turned OFF, but 1 song remains on my iphone and I cannot delete it. It does NOT appear in itunes. My computer is a PC using Windows Pro 7.1. My iphone uses IOS 7.1.2

Some downloads are stubborn -- try connecting to iTunes and if your iPhone is not set to "Manually manage music and video" then enable and apply that option.  Then while connected to iTunes, navigate through the iPhone contents (via iTunes) to locate the song and see if you can delete it.  Then return to auto-sync mode (if that's how it was previously set).

  • Delete from Party Shuffle deleted songs from music library

I deleted about 40 songs from my Party Shuffle list, and for some reason, iTunes deleted the music entirely from my iTunes music library, and from the other playlists the music was on. The "undo" option is no longer available and the music is no longer on the clipboard. Unfortunately I do not remember which tracks were deleted, but some of the tracks that I burned from CD's no longer appear in the "iTunes Music" folder.

If you hold alt when deleting a song, it will delete it from the playlist and from the library.
iTunes moves the files into the trash but iTunes does not empty the trash.

  • Help, can't delete song from iTunes on my iPad mini.Swiping doesn't work

When I swipe a song to delete from iTunes on my iPad mini, nothing happens. How do I get these songs off?

How do the songs show in the Music app ? If they have the cloud icon against them then they are in the cloud - you can turn off the showing of cloud music via Settings > iTunes & App Store > Music (under 'show all') 'off'
If they don't have the cloud icon then are you swiping/dragging across the songs from right-to-left - that should reveal a Delete button to the song's right.
Or if you have iOS 8 you should be able to delete songs / albums / artists (or all music)via Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage (under the 'storage' heading) > Music, you should have an Edit button at the top right of that screen.

  • Cannot delete song from iPod Touch 4

Just got iPod Touch 4 and it tried synching entiere song catalog from computer.  Cancelled synch, but one song is "stuck" on the Touch - it won't play, and won't give the option to delete it - text is in grey and the song is unselectable.  How do I delete this one item?

Nothing.  I guess I'll just have to choose to ignore that one song.  I've just built a playlist that contains only the songs that I can access and use that instead of the base list.
I can't believe that we're the only two people who have this problem and that nobody else has an idea how to fix it.
