I cannot do a clean install of OSX Mountain Lion
I have a Mac Pro 8 Core with dual monitors, I have a USB of OSX ML10.8.
I restart and hold down the option key, select the USB OSX ML10.8 from booting option.
The screen just stays there, after a while, the Mac reboots itself to the previously installed OSX.
Is it because I have 2 monitors setup?
Can someone please help with this issue?
Thanks a mill !!!

You're using Startup Manager. Boot OS X Recovery instead.
From the Mac OS X Utilities screen, choose "Reinstall Mac OS X".
"Clean install" is vague so reinstalling OS X may not accomplish what you seek, and it's not clear what your USB drive contains. More specific guidance can be provided if you explain what you intend to do.

Clean install of OSX Mountain Lion stuck on "5.5hrs."
I'm trying to clean install OS X Mountain Lion on a MacBook Pro after having to erase my mac partition. I lefft the install to run over night and came back to barely making any progress stuck with 5.5 hours left.
I thought erasing the Mac partion that I assuemed to be corrupt would speed things up. But even in Recovery Mode, the Mac is incredibly slow. You're using Startup Manager. Boot OS X Recovery instead.

My Safari keeps restarting, even after a clean install of OSX Mountain Lion
Even after a clean install of OS X, it restarts like almost all the time. Sometimes after a crash, I launch the app with only a page loaded and it crashes too.
Tried some of the suggestions but it still crashes. Someone please help me. The crash report as seen below.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2. -
I have mac osx 10.6.8 but i cannot update but win i upgriding osx mountain lion tha mac tell me (cheke network ???) I HAVE mac book pro 2011
Instead of getting a wireless card for the Mac Pro, you might want to consider getting an 802.11ac wireless bridge device that would enable you to connect more than one device to it by Ethernet cable and to eventually take advantage of the faster 802.11ac wireless standard.

Badge install on OSX Mountain Lion or higher
Hello all,
I have an air app/badge install setup. The badge install is very significant because it passes data from browser to the air app. Recently the app is being blocked on OSX Mountain Lion, and up, due to GateKeeper restrictions which flags it as "from an unknown developer". This is because the app is not signed with Apple's "Developer ID Application" certificate. I bought the cert from Apple and now I am stuck on how to sign the .air app with it. I did try to export it to p12, and was able to sign it, but the app fails to install and has the famous errorID 5022 and the app exits with code 7. There are no other installation of the same app on the system, and signing it with another cert works but its blocked by gatekeeper in the badge installation process.
Is there a specific way to sign the .air package with apple's cert?
Are there any alternatives to the .air package that would still permit the badge install?
Thank you in advance for all your help. The SSD will boot fast, but the real change is launching 10 programs in 10 seconds and being able to use them. (20 seconds for a few big suites).
I would not add or upgrade to 32GB RAM. You can get 8 x 2GB for $100 on Amazon.
Those 250GB HDD are "old" and slow and overdue to be replaced, reformat and use t o backup the system.
Samsung 250GB SSD is down to $150 or so on Amazon also.
The 5770 is gone, hard to find, EOL and over charged for when you do find one.
you could look into how to use a PC 6870 or others.
Or, you could hold out and wait for a refresh of Mac-Mini which can be just as fast or faster and run Mavericks. -

I just perform a clean reinstall of my OSX, everything went well, however, I just realized that i Lost the iPhoto and garageband app. How do I get it back? Please advise.
You should know that OS X hasn't got iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand preinstalled, so you have to install them manually after reinstalling OS X.
If your Mac didn't come with DVDs or you purchased those apps in the App Store, open App Store > Purchases, and download iPhoto and GarageBand.
If your Mac came with DVDs or you didn't purchase those apps in the App Store, insert the Applications DVD or Mac OS X Install Disc 2 that came with your Mac, and install iLife applications. Then, open > Software Update to install the latest version -
Clean install from the mountain lion app on sd

Just to make sure we are on the same page... can you tell me exactly what you mean by this Mountain Lion page?
Within the Mac App Store, it is the page that comes up when I find the Mountain Lion "app" and go to its details. Screen grab added below.
If you notice, it says "Download" and not "$19.99". Given that I haven't yet bought Mountain Lion, it should've showed me the price there I suppose.
Anyway, when I click the Download button, it shows me an error telling me I have to login as my friend's account! Screen grab attached -
Can i install os x mountain lion in apple retailer store instead?
I live overseas and i don't have broadband internet access.
Can i just simply bring my macbook pro late 2011 to apple retailer store and ask them to clean install OS X mountain lion?
i have backed up everything that i need though..you can most definitely walk into your Apple Retail Store and use their internet! Apple is very cool about those things. I've seen some people just stand and browse the internet for hours while I'm getting something repaired or buying something there. They really don't care. They want you to be in there.
make an appointment to see if they can't assist you further, be sure to bring an 8gb storage device if you want to do a clean install.
if you are using time machine, make sure you verify your backups by holding option and clicking the time machine icon in the toolbar and then selecting Verify Backups.
Be aware that if you plan to just migrate your former backup to ML that a clean install is unecessary and you can just do a regular installation ontop of your system as it is now. -
Re instating GarageBand '09 after a clean install of OSX Mavericks
I have a Time Machine back up of my entire hard disk, and because of a couple of suspected system wide issues, I decided to do a clean reinstallation of OSX Mavericks, and reinstall GarageBand X. That all went very well, my HD cleaned up and reformatted fine, OSX Mavericks installed flawlessly, and I began reinstalling Applications, files and folders. I have now run into a problem with the legacy version of Garageband '09, which, on reinstalling from the TM back up, did not simply transfer to the new Applications folder in a working form. Previous to my HD clean up/reinstallation, it had worked pretty well. Now it simply won't open, and I get an error message telling me it cannot find a valid instrument library.
Here is the error message: The Instrument Library is invalid. GarageBand expects a valid Instrument Library folder in /Library/Application Support/GarageBand. Please choose a valid Instrument Library folder or quit and re-install GarageBand.
I do have a copy of the software installation DVD that shipped with my Mac, so in theory I could reinstall GarageBand '09, but I found that, on trying this, although the software 'installed', Garageband still will not open..
I could do a clean reinstall of Snow Leopard, along with it's associated software, iLife '09, then 'update' to Mavericks and re download Garageband X, which, in theory, would solve the problem, having started with a 'clean slate', but that's a lot of trouble, with a lot of downloading..
Any ideas? I'd be grateful for any possible alternative options..
Thanks,
Ontradio :-)Hi leonie,
It looks like once my computer was subject to a clean install of OSX Mavericks, programs installed with iLife, i.e. iWeb, GarageBand. iPhoto, etc, were removed from my HD and cannot now be reinstalled.. I form the impression that they are not on the installation DVD's that shipped with my computer, and having examined the disks by placing them in my machine, there is no way I can tell whether that is correct, since there is no 'button' that allows me to look for their presence on the disks.
If you can shed any light on that conclusion, I'd be grateful for any advice you could offer. I guess it's not super imperitive that I have GarageBand '09, I can get by without it, but it would have been nice to have, and a couple of my songs use loops that were from GB '09, and these are now absent from the songs when played back in GB X. Of course, I cannot download the '09 version from the App store. Looks like Apple has me borked!
Thanks for your help, anyway, I'm always pleased to see your name here..
Regards, Ontradio.. -

just bough OSX Mountain Lion, my laptop operating with v10.6.8. Can't install OSX Mountain Lion, on the disk selection screen i cant select the Macintosh HD to install OSX giving a message (This disk cannot be used to start up your computer).only have one disk to select and my partition map scheme is GUID partition table. 24.44gb disk available.
Verify your computer can run Mountain Lion:
Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Open Disk Utility and verify the drive is partitioned using GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled. If it is then do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Now try installing Mountain Lion. -
How can I clean Install a Macbook Pro running OSX Mountain Lion?
Restart with the Option key held down, tab to the recovery partition, press Enter, and use the Disk Utility to either erase or repartition the internal drive. Install the OS onto the blank partition or an external drive.

Clean Install of OSX to Sell Computer
So, I recently replaced my 12" iBook G4 with a new MacBook, and now I'm hoping to sell it off. Before I can do that, I need to do a clean install of OSX. My only problem is that I don't seem to have the right install disk anymore. Is there any other way to get a brand new install? Can I contact Apple for a new disk? If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be really helpful. Thanks!
Yes this is the link.

Selling my much loved MacBook and upgrading. What is the best way to erase everything (my programs, files, personal information, passwords, etc) and do a clean install of OSX? I still have the original discs and everything.
"What is the best way to erase everything"
Do as the other poster suggested but when you're in Disk Utility you'll see under the erase button another that says "Security Options" click it and and the very minimum use the Zero out data. For more security you can use one of the multiple pass options.
If you just use Erase the data will still be on the drive (what's not been overwritten but the reinstall). Basically Erase just allows those blocks that have data on them to be overwritten but if you Zero out a drive it'll write data over the entire drive so there won't be any left to recover.
