Having same problems as LargeMarge67. Tried everything including your advice to no avail. It gets worse, took I phone and lap top to the Apple Genius Bar at Brighton. Instead of sorting out the Itunes download on my lap top first, they updated the software on my iphone to the new IOS5 via their Pcs. they told me the itunes issue was a microsoft one and I could call apple care when I get home.
Well I did that - on the phone for hours - they told me to uninstall itunes and reinstall. Tried this, and cannot install Itunes version 10.5.1. Version 10.4.1 installs fine but as I have the new Iphone software on my phone which only works with Itunes version 10.5.1 I cannot sync my iphone or restore the phone from backup. Therefore at the mo my phone is useless!!!!!
Great support Apple for letting me walk out of their store 10 times worse than when I walked in. SomeGenius eh - surely he must have known this would be the issue!!!
so guys out there - any ideas how to resolve this - as looks like to get my phone working again, I must download itunes 10.5.1. ahhhh!

Thank you for you answer, but it isn't heart of the problem. The problem is that I don't have choose iTunes version manually, it's happens automatically, and start downloading iTunes for Windows 32-bit.

The Apple website sometimes gives problems to download iTunes. If you have problems, simply download iTunes from the Apple Support website > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1615, or http://www.apple.com/itunes/affiliates/download

Error numbers are 2502 and 2503 for installing iTunes for Windows 64 bits. How to fix?

Check your system date & time is correct.
Run the System File Checker: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
If you still have problems try a creating a new user account with administrator rights, log into it, and attempt the install from there.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Method one which has already been described is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries. Method two is to set your preferences so that either one or both iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library. Choosing the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" allows you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod ( for example, around 3700MB for a 4GB or 1800MB for a 2GB Mini or Nano). In my case, netlimiter was conflicting with the bonjour service. Probably identifying it as a threat. Uninstalling netlimiter solved my installation problem but now I need an alternative to netlimiter
