Even a four-year-old MacBook should have come with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Leopard can run the latest version of iTunes; it will download and install pretty much automatically if you run Software Update.
You might first have to be sure that you are running the latest version of Leopard, which is 10.5.8. This, too, will download and install for you if you run Software Update. Just keep running Software Update until there is nothing left to download and install (you might have to run it more than once because some updates require previous updates to be installed first).
If you have a version of Mac OS X earlier than 10.5, then you can't run the latest version of iTunes. You will need to buy a more recent version of Mac OS X. You must be running at least 10.4 Tiger, and you can upgrade directly to Snow Leopard from Tiger. Apple still sells Snow Leopard for about $30 and you might find it slightly less at a retailer or on eBay. After upgrading to Snow Leopard, you will be able to upgrade to Lion using the Mac App Store for another $30 or so if your MacBook meets the minimum system requirements. -
try doing the update would not download. So like a dummy I did what I went and downloaded the new itunes so it would update itunes did it before and it worked at first it would tell me that I was missing MSVCR80.dll so I downloaded it again and reinstalled it and now it won't work at all
Apple isnt here. this is a user based forum for technical questions. The solution is to restart, reset, and restore as new which is in the manual after that get it replaced for hard ware failure. if your within your one year warranty its replaced if it is out of the warranty then it is 199$

I can't burn cd's using my writemaster external CD drive. I can't use the one inside the computer because it's a piece of crap and burned out months ago. I burned a CD yesterday with no problem My only guess is that it has something to do with the new itunes! Help! Suggestions? Support numbers I can call? Anything!
Oh! and Sorry... I downloaded some other burn software a little bit ago, and it's working fine. It's just WAY slower than iTunes. Anyone know what I can do?!

I cannot download the new itunes 8.2
I just bought a new ipod (a third generation nano) and in order to get it to work with my current itunes, i was prompted to upgrade to itunes 8.2 or above. I attempted to download the standard itunes 8.2 plus quicktime package only to be given an error message that "the installation of quicktime did not complete sucessfully, itunes requires quicktime." I tried to then download quicktime on its own, only to be told in an error message that "another installation is in progress, you must complete that installation before continuing this one."
I went through this same process several times with no luck, I restarted the computer a couple times and tried again.
Please help.

I've had my Iphone4 since 2011 but the current operating system is still 4.2.1. I'd gone quite a while between buying things on itunes directly to my phone and synching it to my pc. When I eventually synched it, it told me that I needed to upgrade to a newer version of Itunes. When I try and click on it to get new version my pc will not do anything. The only thing I can think of doing is to uninstall the old itunes and re-install the current one but i'm guessing i will lose all my purchases. Is this the only way to go about this, any help would be gratefully appreciated - thanks mark (chunky74)
uninstalling iTunes and it's additional components does absolutely nothing to the music/apps/etc that you have downloaded or purchased.
before uninstalling iTunes, try going to the itunes website, download the install file there and manually install it.
If you do have to uninstall iTunes, please make sure you're following this article to make sure that you're uninstalling all of the components correctly and in the right order. Uninstalling iTunes, but not doing it the 'right' way is essentially a waste of time -
ITunes does not allow updates to iPhone and iPad
I'm trying to update my devices to iOS 4.3.5. Update downloads okay. However when iTunes verifies the device a message indicates the device is not eligible for the update. This worked before I upgraded to Lion. Firewall has been checked, iTunes updated to latest version, 10.4 I think. I have uninstalled iTunes and carried out a re install twice, and the fault persists.

I just downloaded the new itunes and cannot play the previews in the itunes store, they start but after a few seconds just quit. so frustrating.
can anyone tell me what I can do?I recently hit the update itunes button ever since then when i try to go into my itunes store i see the labels for example the movie titles but no pictures. When I hit the button to rent or buy a movie or any thing elese I get an error message with the number (309) saying I can't access itunes store try again later.

If so, try the following procedure.
(1) In your Start menu, select Control Panel.
(2) Open the Internet Options control panel. (You may need to select Classic View on the left before you can see Internet Options.)
(3) Click the Connections tab.
(4) Click the LAN Settings button.
(5) Uncheck "Use a Proxy Server for your LAN". (If that option is already unchecked, try checking and then unchecking it.)
(6) Click OK to exit the LAN Settings dialog.
(7) Click OK to exit the Internet Options control panel.
(8) Restart the PC and try connecting to the Store again. -

You have already seen that you cannot load the new iTunes into your 10.5.8, so as Neil says, you need Snow Leopard (current cost £14). And you'll probably need to update the disc you buy via the combo update, though that is free.
As far as the new iTunes is concerned, there's been a certain amount of grumbling so you may want to study the forums before you update. The main problem has been with album artwork which does not transfer easily. -

Err 3259 means that the download has taken too long to respond. Are you sure your internet connection is okay? Have you tried powering your router off and then on again?

I have an iMac with a 10.4.11 operating system. When I click on iTunes Store, I no longer get the iTunes screen, instead, I get a new iTunes download screen.
