I cannot edit or add the genre to all songs. It's disabled???

I recently created a new user in my iMac. I'm sharing the music with the other user. I imported the songs... but it doesn't let me change the genre. It's gray.. like if it's disabled. How can I fix this?
Thanks!

Check under the help menu, but you'll probably ned to open the CC Desktop Application and let it find the updates.
Try opening the IDML file. If it opens, it's safe to close ID at this point without saving, then you can re-start, open the IDML file again and Save As with a new filename.

i can still not find it on sunsolve however i noticed that there are some deployment of convergence that already have it installed. is there an alternative way to obtain the patch?Yes, you can upgrade to patch -04 by using the Comms 6 update 1 installer which is available here:

Run the "commpkg upgrade" command to upgrade to patch -04 of Convergence (and also upgrade other components such as Messaging Server if desired).

Right-click the track in your library, Get Info, go to the Info tab, and type in the correct information.  When you are done, click "OK."

I could not find any way to do that. There is no way access the song information like you do through iTunes.

Does TV Shows show as a category under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your Mac's iTunes ? If it does, and that series is still in your country's store, then it should show there and you can download it from there (click the cloud icons) onto your Mac's iTunes library - you can then sync the episodes to your phone.

  • Why does Itunes automatically change the genre of my songs?

Why does Itunes automatically change the genre of my songs? I have assigned specifit genres but they're constantly changed without me doing it. ITs annoying. Does anyone know how i can stop this?

    welcome to the discussions
you may find that WMP is doing this for you.
There is a setting is WMP that means that it checks the info held in the file (and shown by itunes) against that held at Gracenote and 'updates' the info where there is any disagreement. On my copy its under the 'media library' tab.
Turn this off if its on.

  • Can I change the settings for ALL songs in iTunes with 1 command?

I'd like to set the volume for all songs to +100. Can I just select all songs and then change it to +100?

Highlight all the songs in your library (ctrl+a, edit-->select all, etc.)
Now right click one of the songs, making sure that all remain highlighted, and go to get info. Click Yes to the message that pops up. You should be able to adjust the volume in that window. Click OK when you are done. The volume should now be adjusted for all songs.

  • How do I stop i-tunes from changing the genres for my songs without my consent?

Lately, itunes has been taking the genres I've set for my songs and changing them without my consent or say so.  I change them back to what I want, i-tunes changes it back to what it wants, etc..
For example, I might list something as "Rock", but i-tunes decides it's "Pop" or "Alternate Rock" and edits my file's meta-data unilaterally.  I might decide I want a category called "Christmas Music", but i-tunes decides the genre is "Holiday Music".  I even have a few songs labeled "Urban", and i-tunes tries to change them to "Hip-Hop/Rap" or "Rap/Hip-hope".  I took a lot of time with my large music collection to get this stuff exactly the way I wanted it- simplified.  I-tunes is screwing it up.
This is *my* music.  I even bought it all legally on a limited budget.  I get to decide what genre I want it listed as.
Is there a setting or something I can change to get i-tunes to stop messing my music genre data?  Or do I have to find a new music player?
I've got a long suffering ipod classic I was thinking of replacing at some point, but I may leave the i-tunes ecosystem entirely over this instead.  To make things worse, my ipod with it's troubled syncing and broken buttons now has to deal with constantly recopying files with new genres every time I sync and itunes or I have changed something in our constant man versus machine battle- just try have hundreds of songs recopied each time without an error on something that barely can handle normal syncing after reconnecting 10 times or so every sync because it doesn't take the first 9 times.
I don't want to fight my music player.  I just want the thing to work and do what I instruct it to do.  Either that or I'm going to have to rename it "HAL" and start calling myself "Dave" ala 2001: A Space Odessy.  Because this thing seems to be turning on me.

Ugh.  I thought I was exagerating when I said song name changes were next.  Apparently, I was literally correct.  I haven't seen it yet personally, but Tooltomus says he has.
I thought the genre changes had stopped, only to see that they'd started up again a few minutes ago.  This is getting really old really fast.
Again, why does Apple seem to think it can do whatever it wants to our bought and paid for music without our permission?  This isn't about interface changes or whatever, which are all well within their rights, but to actually alter our files themselves without asking or even notifying us.  They've got to be kidding...  Isn't there some way to turn this off?
Why are they doing this?  What's the point of it?  Is it intentional or some kind of bug?  Is anyone from Apple going to bother to even tell us?
I feel like I had some great music software and a great music player.  I've used them for hours every day for years.  I really love smart playlists and a whole bunch of features.  It's very upsetting to see them go in this direction.
You know, record companies and music sellers have been pushing the idea of legally purchased files for years, saying it's just the same as CDs or whatever.  And I've been dutifully buying my files this whole time from various legal sellers instead of pirating them.  And now they're basically doing the equivalent of breaking into my home and messing around with my CDs- scrobbling all over the covers and album booklets, etc..
Why even have a genre setting the user can change if the program is going to keep overriding it and change genres?  Why even have a song setting the user can change if the program is going to keep overriding it and change song titles?  What happens when the program gets something wrong?
Anyone know how to turn this off?  Would going back to itunes 10 help or is this coming from the server to every version of itunes?  Is there other music player software that will leave my music alone that will preserve my playcounts, ratings, playlists, last played, and so on and so forth, and support syncing to my ipod?  Can I somehow cut itunes off from contacting apple's servers to look up information and make these changes?

  • ITunes 7, I think it's changing the genres of my songs when it looks up art

I've only noticed this, as I actually leave the "Genre" field blank. As far as I'm concerned, there's only two types of music, .....good or bad.
So I've set iTunes churning through my collection, hunting for album artwork, & I notice that a lot of my tunes are now "Classic Rock" or "R&B" or "other". Now I know I haven't filled in these genre's, as I don't use the genre field.
This isn't a big problem for me, as I can just select all affected tracks & delete any text in the genre field. But I can see this being a major issue, for people who have spent a lot of time labelling up their music collection exactly how they want it. Only for all their hard work to be changed to the genres that apple thinks your music ought to have.
While I've been typing this, I've just set iTunes going on "get album artwork". Prior to this absolutely nothing had genres filled in. .....I've now got 150 tracks with genres!!

    Hey,
My friend had a very similar issue to yours. The issue came down to the pins of the MagSafe not meeting with the MacBook perfectly causing the lights and the transfer of power to be wacko. I'm not sure if this is issue that your experiencing, but its worth checking out the pins and the MagSafe area on your MacBook for debris.

If that is all clear, then I would suggest you call AppleCare or take it in to an Apple Store to have it checked out.

  • CDs with multiple artists are added to the library multiple times I want to be able to add the artwork to all.

CDs with multiple artists are added to the library multiple times. Usually one has the artwork. I want to add the artwork to the others.  The instructions are inaccurate. I tried it several ways and it does not work.  How do I add the artwork shown on one of the albums to the other albums (same album, different artists)?

Try Ethernet over Power adapters.. these are very popular for your kind of environment.. being able to make non-wireless link to another area where you can setup a wireless access point.
Airport Express are not great for wireless power.. if you really have issues with wireless strength in a bad environment apple stuff is not the way to go.
    The comparison chart here.
    http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/router-charts/bar/58-2_4-ghz-dn?see=P_F
This is their worst test location you can also see averages.. the latest airport extreme.. is there a long way down.. and that is a much better wireless device than Airport Express.
The Ubiquiti power AP is small cheap and designed for precisely this duty.. useless in an apple wireless network.. you will need to run ethernet or EOP adapters back to the main router.. but if the normal omni directional antennas don't provide enough signal you can get directional ones.. I suspect you can cover your whole apartment with a pair of these and high gain directional antenna.

  • Why can't I change the genre on my songs

I am trying to change the genre on my Christmas songs to Christmas instead of Holiday and it will not change.  Have done this in the past so I'm confused as to why it won't work now.  I had to reinstall all my music from a external hard drive after having to reset my computer, did I do something wrong?

    Never mind, fixed it.

  • ITunes Music art stays the same for all songs

This just happened after the update before the most recent one. When I play my iTunes music through the ATV, the artwork in the big screen for Now Playing screen does not update. It shows one album for all songs. As shown below. All songs have the Rolling Stones artwork.  I did a complete reset to factory settings a month ago and that fixed it, but now it is happening again.
The weird part is when I go to the home screen, I see the correct artwork - ACDC up in the left corner under the Now Playing window. It is only when it is expanded is when I have the problem.
This problem happens when I play both ITunes Match through the cloud, and my music through me iTunes library on my Pc.
    I

That's what iTunes -> Preferences -> Playback -> Sound Check does - equalizes the volume across tracks to provide a more-even playback.

  • Can you change the year of all songs in an album without changing the year of the album?

    Hi everyone,
I was wondering if it is possible to change the year of all the songs within an album while keeping the year of the album. This is particularly relevant in 'Compliation' or 'Best of' albums, where all the years the songs were produced is different o the year the album was produced.
Foe example, The Beatles' best of album '1' was created in 2000, but all of the songs were from 1963-70. In iTunes, the album is listed as being released in the year 2000, which is correct, but all of the songs are listed as being released in 2000, too, which is incorrect. However, when I change all of the individual songs to their correct year in which they were created, the year of the album also changes to that of the first song on that album. In short, either the album year is correct but all the song years are incorrect OR the album year is wrong but all the song years are right.
Does anyone kinow if there is anyway to change this or get around this?
    Many thanks!

Do you have any idea whether or not Apple are seeking to do anything about it in any upcoming updates?
None at all. If you'd like them to consider it you'll need to use the feedback link I gave above.
A long standing bug bear for some is not being able to correctly sort two albums released in the same year by the same band. Having both copyright date and release date would (if implemented properly) give the option to sort, or filter tracks on either date as required.
iTunes is a database of tracks. Albums don't really exist separately. There are a few collective properties. Year can have a separate value in each track but obviously only one value can (or at least should) be used when sorting as Album by Artist/Year. If you change the album rating of a single track in iTunes (which can be done with a script) iTunes automatically updates all the others to match.
