I cannot eject a dvd

I am trying to eject a burnt cd from my DVD player on my iMac and it will not let me. The CD used to play on my computer and now it is giving me a message that says "Supported disc not available" whether I press play or eject.

Restart the computer, when you hear the startup tone hold down the eject button, do not release until the disc has ejected.

  • Cannot eject a dvd out of my iMac? any solution?

    Hello
We inserted a dvd in the iMAc, and it now would not eject.
Since there no way to get in the hardware, do you have any solution to get it out?
    Thanks

What model iMac? This forum covers three generations of iMacs made from 1998 to 2005 and the instructions for a stuck disk for one generation may not apply to another.
If you do "About this Mac"and post what the "Processor" description reports, that is sufficient for figuring out which generation you have.
About the only "general"advice that doesn't require knowing the specific model is to restart the computer and hold the mouse button down while the computer reboots. Keep holding until the disk ejects or the computer is fully restarted.

  • DVD Drive works, but cannot eject, because DVD crashes into case.

Is there a chance to adjust the drive manually in the case? I don´t want to buy a new externel one..
    Thanks guys!!!

Yes you can, but you have to open the box first. How to is shown here, about 1:30 from the start of the clip:

By all means post back if you have questions not addressed in the video. I've done this a few times to add ram or to change the hard drive in a few minis.

  • HT3964 Cannot eject disk from Superdrive?

I have an Apple Superdrive connected to my iMac. I loaded a music cd, and ejected successfully. Then i inserted a dvd with photographs, just to check what was on it. I now cannot eject this dvd. I cannot see the disk drive or file anywhere. have tried to eject using button on keyboard. Have followed steps which tell me to shut down computer, unplug and restart after 15 secs. Also done Restart. Feel like chucking the drive at the wall! Can anyone help, please?

Just realised that the restart will not work, as I cannot close iPhotos. When i try to close it, it says cannot close as photos are importing. Can only be referring to the photos on this dvd stuck in the drive. Doesn't appear to be any way tp abort the import into iPhoto from dvd, but import is not actually happening! What can i do?
Force Quit iPhotos. If you don't know how to force quit an app, click the Apple symbol in the upper left of the display and select Force Quit, select the application (iPhoto) and hit Enter.

hey guys, so I have a DVD stuck in the CD drive on my mac. It reads it as being in there, but I cannot eject it and it is causing my a lot of issues with my mac. If i try to eject it, Finder acts up and I have issues saving projects or even browsing files. I feel like it interferes with iPhoto as well because it says it is locked and I have no rights to view it. I wanted to see if anyone else had/s this issue and how you fixed it before lugging it into the apple store and being without a computer for a few weeks...

A few other suggestions here as well:

  • DVD icon disappeared from desktop after copy-cannot eject

I am copying a home slide show thru Disk Utility. After the slide show copied, the DVD icon on my desktop disappeared and I cannot eject it to then install a clean DVD to Burn. Please advise.

Launch Disk Utility again. If the DVD is recognized then select it and then select the Eject icon. If it appears but is "greyed out" then select it, then select Mount, and then Eject.
If that does not work, restart your MacBook Pro while holding the trackpad depressed.

  • I inserted the OSX install dvd . It didn't start and I cannot eject it?

    Hi everybody,
I inserted the OS X install DVD . It didn't start and I cannot eject it.
The Mac is blocked on the Finder which I cannot force to quit either.
Very grateful if anybody can help

Did you hold down the C key and to a restart to boot off the OS install disk?
Try doing a restart. Hold down the power button to shut down the computer and then turn it back on after waiting ~30 seconds.

  • Cannot boot from DVD since 10.4.6 update.

My Quad cannot boot from the Superdrive at all.Upon updating I decided to repair permissions from the DVD but everytime I got to the Apple logo the fans powered up,full tilt. I had to turn the Quad off from the power button and start up holding down the mouse, in order to eject the DVD.
As far as I remember, I allowed the computer to start up twice, and disconnected all peripherals whilst updating.
I've tried zapping the pram and resetting the nvram to no avail.I've inserted Disk Warrior and that will not boot. The computer runs fine from the HD (although there was one occasion when, briefly, a small OS9-style Mac monitor appeared with a question mark, then made way for a proper boot), but I'm really concerned at this problem. I do not want to wipe the system drive and start from scratch, since I've only just finished migrating a whole buch of software from another G5, and I have TV job looming.
Incidentally, both my other G5's and Mac Mini updated with no perceptable problems. Can anyone shed any light on this and, perhaps, offer a solution (other than a wipe ! ).
    Thank you.

Any installation can theoretically cause harm. If you aren't backed up, you may be forced to use Target Disk Mode if you can't boot a DVD, or an external DVD burner that supports booting. Both LaCie and Otherworld Computing have external Firewire DVD drives that support booting. Target Disk Mode is described here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Fortunately when you boot via Firewire or use Target Disk Mode, you bypass the hard drive's bootloading software, which you don't when you use the internal optical drive.

  • Eject this DVD-R from my Macbook pro!

I burned some pics from my PC to transfer on to my macbook pro. The DVD-R won't read but also I cannot eject it!! I've tried ALL your tricks (forums, internet), and more.....what can I do?

Hold the Command and S keys while your MacBook Pro is starting, and type:
    drutil eject
    exit
If this doesn't work, your disc drive is damaged. Take it to an Apple Store to get your DVD drive replaced, or buy an external DVD drive, which is cheaper
