I cannot enter text to change event names

I just installed the newest update for 08 (7.2) and now I cannot enter text into the heading boxes for the events. I can select the area so that a text box comes up, but I don't get that icon thing that tells me that I can type in it. I should also add that I just purchased one of the new apple keyboards and have been having occasional problems like this in other applications.
Any ideas what is going on? Suggestions? Thanks!

You need to have the Helvetica Neue font installed. Open Font Book and check to see if it's installed. If it is, deactivate it and then reactivate. If it's not there, use Pacifist to locate, extract and install the font from the system install disk that came with your Mac.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Assuming you mean the personal name associated with the account, as opposed to the login (which you can change if it's not an @icloud.com. @me.com or @mac.com address) you can change this at http://appleid.appla.com . Click on 'Manage your account' and then on 'Edit' next to 'Your name' and the name currently associated with the ID.

Cannot enter text in Elements 11 after installing PS CC and LR 5

After downloading installing PhotoShop CC and LightRoom 5, I cannot enter text in PS Elements 11. I get the message that "something prevented the text engine from being initialized."
How do I correct this?

Did you reboot the machine after installing the new applications? In windows 7 and Windows 8 it is almost always required to reboot the machine. sometimes it does it automatically but sometimes it doesn't but it is a good idea to manually RESTART the machine.

No text in box asking for admin UN/PW, cannot enter text

I migrated a user to another machine using Migration Assistant. Two odd things have come up:
1. His name at the upper right corner is off center in the menu bar. It's a little too high.
2. A keychain dialog box came up and a dialog box came up for admin UN/PW for something else. There is no text in the boxes and I cannot enter anything.
It's a new image I have rolled out to about 100 users no problem. It doesn't happen with any other user on the machine so I am sure it's something in his home. Is there a preference or something that could be corrupt that is causing this?

No can do. Got to be an easier way. HD failing on users old machine. Hardware failure. Deleting profile and moving it over again is the easy way out....if I could do it.

Cannot enter text in textboxes (like passwords) with the newest version of Firefox

I just downloaded the latest version of Firefox, and now I cannot enter any text in textboxes, like when prompted to enter my passwords for different sites.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

I cannot enter text in the iTunes search box

I'm having a really bizarre problem with iTunes latest version (10.5,0.142). When I click in the search field in the upper right-hand corner of the program, I cannot enter any text--no text cursor appears. I can click on the little down arrow next to the magnifying glass and select "All," or "Artist," or "Album," etc, but I'm not able to enter text. It's like the focus doesn'tshift from the Library pane and any letters I type just cause the highlight for that window to drop down to the closest match to the character I typed, even though the focus has shifted to the search pane.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, but that does not correct this misbehavior.
Not sure if it's related, but I also no longer have the text menus available at the top of the window, whether the program is maximized or minimized and taking up only part of the screen (this is not a screen clipping problem--those text menus are no longer there, though you can get very small hotspots to appear near the upper left hand edge of the program window (when you have the program window in normal mode, rather than maximized), where those text menus would be, and if you click on the hotspots, the menus do appear.
But, by far, the first issue is the most perplexing.

Solved: This was caused by replacing the SegoeUI (Regular) true-type font. I have no idea what process or why that font was deleted, but finding the segoeui.ttf file on another Windows machine, emailing it to myself, saving it to disk, then right-clicking and choosing "Install" fixed this problem.

Windows 7 Stuck At BIOS Cannot Enter BIOS or Change Boot Media

My laptop has no problem before. Recently I try to install Windows XP. First attempt fail, so I change SATA at BIOS from AHCI to Compatible, success. However the partition that I want to install Windows XP to is not available.
So just to test I choose my Windows 7 partition. Since it want to format the partition, I cancel the installation. After restarting windows, it stuck at bios. I restart again and change SATA to AHCI. Restart, still stuck at bios. This time I cannot enter BIOS, recovery or change boot media. Assuming the boot sector has corrupt, will reseating the cmos battery will fix this problem. Please help. Yes, you will need to boot without the HDD to try and access the BIOS again. If you're able to access the BIOS using this method, reload the BIOS defaults by pressing F9 then press F10 to save and exit.
From here, you can try to:
1. Re-insert the HDD and press the OneKey Recovery button to reinstall Windows 7
2. Create a recovery disc for Windows 7, format the HDD and downgrade to Windows XP
3. Dual-boot Windows 7 and Windows XP (see this guide)

Cannot Enter Text - no matter what I do, I don't get the blinking curser

No matter what I do, after I get my bounding box drawn, the blinking cursor doesn't appear. I've set the font so huge, it should. I've entered text in images before so I cannot for the life of me figure out what's going on.

When you have created the Text Box, do you still see the Text Tool selected?
What font have you chosen?
What is the font's Size?

Change Event Name in iPhoto for iOS

I've bought in to Apple's promise of the "PC free" lifestyle with an iPad and the camera connectivity kit. A major problem is the fact that you couldn't manage events on the iPad with the standard "Photos" app.
With the new "iPhoto for iOS", will I finally be able to restore organization to my library? I would love it if I could simply name events and perhaps do a little split/merge here and there.

I recently had to reinstall my Creative Suite 4 Design Premium and since then, I am not able to place a MS Word program. I also cannot enter text in PhotoShoip.

I recently had a hard drive crash. I replaced the C: drive with a solid state and now have 3 internal HDs. C: for the OS (Windows 7), D: for data and P: for program installation. Because I replaced the C: drive, I had to re-install all my programs. Now, PhotoShop will not let me place text, inserting the text tool causes the program to stop responding. In InDesign, if I try to place a MS Word document, it acts as if I never did that action and I can't get it placed.
I can copy and paste, but doing so makes the formatting get left behind. I suspect it may not have installed correctly. I've used Adobe products since 1991 and never had this happen before. I even used Aldus PageMaker before the Suites were available. Can anyone help? Is it a reinstallation issue?
I use PhotoTools from OnOne and if I uninstall it to reinstall CS4, I'm afraid it will no longer honor my product key.

Changing the Name of Text Links to a File

I happily discovered that iWeb will create download links to files such as text, spreadsheet, word processing, PDF, and the like, if you zip them. However, when I create a text link to a file, the linked text takes on the name of the file, such as YourDownload.zip, rather than keeping the description I entered when creating the link. So links to files don't work the same way that links to URLs or other web pages within a site do, in that the link path (the URL) is separate from the name or description of the link. Is there a way around this apart from using graphics objects for the links?
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Once the text link is created you can go back, select the text and change the name to anything you want. It doesn't have to the the name of the zipped file. An annoyance but easily overcome.

Well, I can tell you that this kind of error is not OS related, but rather a HW thing. It happens where there is a general detection of something going wrong. Sometimes it can happen randomly and might not be an indication of a problem. But sometimes it can be caused by things that are improperly functioning within the system like bad capacitors.
Unfortunately I don't really know what to do about such things except give you machine a proper inspection. But if things are working fine, and continue to do so, I wouldn't worry about it. If it becomes a regular occurance, then I'd worry.

Unable to enter text in text boxes in Safari

When using Safari 6.0.2 I frequently cannot enter text into a text box. If I open a new page, it will work fine for a while and then develop the same problem. Anybody else have this problem and find a solution?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. I have a site at balachadha.com which works fine on IE.
I also have a g4 that works fine.
The problem is that on the log in page some mac users are
saying that they cannot enter text. This is even with the latest OS
and browser versions. I have some encrypted html around the flash
to prevent people from cutting and pasting images, but as I say It
works fine on a g4 for me. Any ideas?
