Cannot burn an iMovie project to a DVD because the computer can't find iDVD.  Anyone know how to accomplish this task.

Macs don't come bundled with iDVD anymore. If you have an older Mac that came with an iLife disk, you can install iDVD from that.
If your Mac didn't come with iDVD, you can still find iLife '11 disks in some stores.
There are other programs that can create DVDs, but I've never used them. From what I've heard, they're not as good as iDVD.

  • I am not able to open one particular iMovie project - help!

I spent 18 hours editing a video, then closed imovie so that I can continue the next morning and wanted some memory management to happen. Now when I restart iMovie I can see the project in the list but open project button at the top is grayed out and double clicking puts the cursor on the name as if I want to rename it. Reading some other forums, I have tried deleted some files so that iMovie recalculates/adds those files to the iMovie project but that didnt help as well. I am still able to see the event in the bottom half of the screen with the rejected/chosen parts intact but cant load the project on the timeline.
Previously while loading I had chosen to copy the video files from original location to iMovie project and then move the original files to a USB drive and have confirmed that the mov files iMovie created for the project is there.

The individual file has become corrupted somehow.
Happens often to users who work across a network, opening or saving a Photoshop image file to a server.
You're going to have to resort to your backup.
This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Cannot open old iMovie project

I have an old iMovie project from 2008 that I cannot open.
If I double-click it, terminal opens.
Recommended applications are Textwrangler, Terminal.... not really the right thing to watch a movie.
Final Cut Pro X cannot read the file, because it's in the "bundle" format. Quicktime is also grayed out.
Is this some weird format that is no longer readable by anything? Or can I turn it into an .mp4 file?
    Thanks.

iMovie doesn't support importing one iMovie project to another. When we try, we get exactly the error you quoted.
You can, however, import all the Timeline video and audio as a single clip to a new project. Or you can drag files from the Media folder of the project to the Timeline of a NEW project.
In the Finder, Control-click on the project icon and choose Show Package Contents from the popUp menu. You'll see the movie "Timeline Movie.mov" in the window that opens. You want to import that movie to a new project, or import selected files in the Media folder.
To import, drag the file to the Timeline of a NEW iMovie project. If importing the Timeline Movie, everything on the Timeline of the original project will arrive as a single clip in the new project.
If the project failed on the external drive, it may be because the disk does not use the disk format required by iMovie. Use Disk Utility to check the disk format, which must be "Mac OS Extended". If it's not that format, use Disk Utility to reformat the drive. (Which will erase all the files on the drive, so make backups.)

  • Cannot open an iMovie project file

I can no longer open an iMovie project file from my external hard drive. Other iMovie projects on the hard drive can be opened, but not my main project. I've transfered it back to my MacBook Pro and then tried importing it into a new project, but I get an error -43 message about Quicktime not able to 'parse' the file. I have also tried Lennart Thelander's "File Fixer" but this still does not open the file. File icon and file size (39.02GB) seem to be the same as when the file could be opened. Is there a way to recover this file?
    Merci

  • I cannot open my imovie project

I just reinstalled leopard, before I formated my macbook pro, I copied my imovie project files and events to an external harddrive. My question is, how do I load them in imovie now? Which folder and files should I copy from my backup? Thanks Alex

You must move everything back to where it was on your internal drive, and then move it from within iMovie. If you are short on space, you can do this one Event at a time. Be sure iMovie is closed when you move it back, then restart iMovie so it will recognize it.
The reason you need to move your projects and events back relates to the architecture of iMovie. The video files are in the Event. The project consists of a text file of instructions that are executed when the project is shared. The project expects to find the Event file where it was when you created the project in iMovie. If you move the Event file from within iMovie, the Project file is updated with pointers to the new location. If you move the Event file in the Finder, iMovie has no way to know where the Event has gone.

  • I cannot find my iMovie projects

since i updated my imac to the latest version my imovies have dissapeared. i have them backed up externally but why are they no longer in imovie?

It would be very unusual for iMovie to delete your projects so they are probably there somewhere.
iMovie will only see your projects if they are in the Movies/iMovie Projects/ folder. Is there a chance that you moved them somewhere else?
One way to find them would be to use Spotlight. That is the small magnifying glass icon at the top right of your screen. Click on Spotlight, and in the search box type .rcproject
Than should give you a list of your project files.
Click "Show All In Finder" so you can tell where they are.

  • Front Row cannot see my iMovie Projects

Navigating to the iMovie Projects menu in Front Row brings up a 'No content found' message. I can see the projects in iMovie and have tried sharing in the Media Browser - but no luck!
Front Row can however see iMovie events without any problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Patrick

I moved my iMovie Events to an external HDD to save space on my primary HDD. I did this via iMovie, so my iMovie Projects remained intact and I was able to continue to view my iMovie Events (whether on internal/external HDD) no problem. However, iMovie Events on my external HDD were not visible in Front Row. Is there a way that I can have it both ways whereby I can store my iMovie Events on my external HDD and have Front Row be able to access them?
Perhaps the solution is to "Share" my iMovie Projects to iTunes, in which case the shared files will be saved on my primary HDD and visible in Front Row. I want to avoid this, if possible, as this is just an extra step that consumes space on my primary HDD and my iPod.
    Thanks.

  • Cannot export iMovie project - Help please

When I try to share the project I've worked on for over a week, I get the following ...
However, that event is in the iMovie library.
The only thing that happened differently this time is that I mistakenly deleted the event files from the event library before I exported the project to save disk space. But once I found out I needed the event clips in iMovie in order to share the project, I found out the clips are still in User > Movies > iMovie Events > British Isles Cruise 2013, so I imported them back into my Event Library in iMovie. So the Event and all the clips are back in iMovie, but I'm still getting the above error, as if iMovie doesn't realize the event is still there, and I cannot share or do anything with my project other than view it in iMovie.
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    you haven't renamed any files/folders?
just dragged them out of the Events folder, and back, right?
    try this …
    quit iMovie
    goto Library/Preferences and trash com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
    launch iMovie again ....
How do I trash the iMovie Preferences File? and Why?

  • In iMovie 10.0.2 Why can't I find iMovie projects or events to transfer to external harddrive?

I am trying to backup my iMovie Projects and all of the media for a number of events. I have been having trouble with iMovie 10.0.2, but it could also be my computer. I am running a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro with Maverick. I have a MacMini that I would like to transfer things over to. aybe I just can't process and that is why I am having so many issues with iMovie. Regardless, I cannot find my iMovie Projects or Events in the finder and cannot seem to figure out a way to find transfer them. They seem to have been lumped into a new library (similar to iPhoto) and I cannot for the life of me figure it out. Any ideas?

Yeah, since they switched to using the iLibrary format I didn't recognize things. I figured it out and was able to transfer things. Funny enough, I was trying to solve for the problem described in the other thread.
Sadly, trying a different comp (my MacMini) I was not able to make those darned clips work. They just seem doomed. Thanks for all the help though! I shall now give you more points!

  • IMovie Project File Problem - Won't Play After HD Format

Hi everyone, I have a MacBook Pro (OSX 10.4.11) running iMovie 08 (7.1.4). A few months ago I created a slideshow in iMovie and it was saved in a folder on my laptop as an iMovie Project file (159MB). Whenever I wanted to show someone the slideshow, I just double-clicked the iMovie Project file and it opened automatically in iMovie and the slideshow played without any problems.
Earlier this week I had to format the HD of my MBP (I wanted to get rid of the Windows partition I had). Before I did this, I obviously backed-up all my files onto a portable HD and reinstalled them on my MBP. Today, when I attempted to open the iMovie Project file (again, by double-clicking on it in Finder) I ran into a problem: iMovie 08 opens, but the file will not play. It doesn't even appear anywhere in iMovie. Before, it would appear in iMovie and show all the individual frames, audio track, etc.
(Unsurprisingly) I also cannot open this iMovie Project file in any other program, such as Quicktime, etc...
Can anyone tell me how I can open this file in iMovie again and/or import it back into iMovie and watch/edit it there? It is quite important that I can open it again.
    Thank you very much, Scott

AM1958, you are a lifesaver!! Thank you very much -- moving the .rcproject file to user>/Movies/iMovie Projects/ fixed my problem and I can now play my slideshow movie. I really appreciate the assistance. One more (small) thing: it seems to me that the quality of the movie has been somewhat compromised, in that I recall the images looking sharper and clearer before. This could be my mind playing tricks on me, but I am just wondering if this is possible... Or am I imagining this?

  • Imove project!!!!!

Can I or not import imovie project file with compressor. yhan convert it to mpeg2

    Hi:
You cannot import the iMovie project, but you can export your timeline as high quality movie (I don't remember exactly the option name in iMovie) and then drag that movie into Compressor to encode to MPEG2 video and AC3 audio or AIFF audio.
Are you going to author your DVD in DVDSP?
Probably this is related with this thread:

  • I cannot finalize a project in iMovie, notwithstanding 175g of memory.  iMovie says there is a problem with the heap zone.  Worried about a virus or other issue.  Please help.

I cannot finalize a project in iMovie, notwithstanding 175g of memory.  Could this be a virus or other operating problem.  Have shut down iMovie several times and moved more projects to hard drive to free up space.  Help!

    175Gb should be enough.

  • Imovie '11 help - finalize project causes audio error?

when i finalize my project 1 clip i've put in for some reason has audio timing issues (think millie vanilli lip sync) but if i export the movie with out finalizing it works fine. can anyone help me here?

    A couple of suggestions.
    1) It is probably not a good idea to share SD material at 1080P. (I realize you are not doing this on purpose.)
    http://www.larryjordan.biz/faq-problems-with-scaling-video/
    2) When you Finalize a certain size, that size is blanked out as a choice unless you make a change to the project. So it may have already finalized in all other sizes.
    3) If it is trying to finalize in 1080P when the content is SD, is it possible that the first clips are 1080P, such as a movie trailer?
    4) You can check what sizes already exist by going to your iMovie Projects folder in the Finder and right-clicking on your Project Name. Choose "Show Package Contents". The look in the Movies folder. That will contain all the sizes that currently exist.
    5) If you want, you do not have to Finalize. You can just SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER in the sizes you need. It does the same thing. Finalize does all available sizes, whether you need them or not.
OH YEAH, the most important suggestion...,
    6) Try turning off your Time Machine Backup temporarily. That sshould let the Finalize finish if you have that error message.

  • IMovie cannot finalize project: error -50

I have spent most of the day trying to make a very short 2 minute video, but iMovie constantly tells me there is not enough space / virtual memory - even though I have deleted a couple 100 GB of files off my HD, plus every single clip I haven't used from within iMovie itself. It tells me: "The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-50)".
Can anyone advise me? Yesterday I uploaded huge amounts of GB into iMovie & worked on a video with no issue at all (clips all now deleted to save space); now suddenly there is no space even to import a really small clip, & I cannot finalize the video even without this clip.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore is not, in itself, a solution.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) 2>&- | wc -l | pbcopy
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be a number. It's automatically copied to the Clipboard. Please paste it into a reply.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.
