I open profile manager and see bookmarks but how can it restore them in my browser? Firefox doesnt clearly explain but just moves you to different articles with no end.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

A possible cause of this error is that Firefox is set to run as Administrator.
Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.

my macbook pro hard drive crashed while running an OS software update. I had purchased lion then mountain lion software updates a while back and so my system was running on mountain lion.
Now that i have replace my hard drive, i cannot find the purchased updates / apps on my appstore! why is that and how can I restore those updates?

Seems someone from Apple corrected the problem.
I just downloaded a new version, again, due to upgrade to a larger HDD, and the new installer does have Apple name identified.
So try it again.

Firefox 4 on Win7 uses 100% CPU for Favicon Animation. Allready reinstalled it, created a new Profile and deleted the old one. Firefox still gets very slow over time. Any more suggestions?

Firefox Check Your Plugins found "unknown plug-ins". My other plug-ins are up to date. To keep Firefox running safely and smoothly can the "unknowns" be safely uninstalled? How do I know if I need them? Where do they come from?

I cannot say with certainty any plugins known or unknown installed on my computer are problematic. My other plugins are up to date. "Unresponsive Scripts" comes up quite often. No particular website, Grooveshark and Centurylink more than any others. Are the two (Plug-ins and Scripts) related?

option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. Firefox automatically updated to a version that will not run on my version of OSX... can I reinstall my old version and keep my saved bookmarks, etc?

I am running OSX 10.4.11 on my iMac; Firefox automatically updated to version 12, and now it will not run on my computer.
Is there a way to deinstall the new version while keeping my saved bookmarks, etc?
If not, how do I deinstall 12 and reinstall the older version of Firefox that worked with my operating system?

Please keep in mind that not only is Firefox not receiving any updates (thus rendering it insecure), neither is Mac 10.4 or any of the plugins used on it. I suspect that you are looking at the Recent section. Your can switch to Local (for the files & folders stored on your iPad/iPhone) or Document Cloud (for the files & folders stored in the Adobe Document Cloud, formerly Acrobat.com) to find your "lost" files.

can any one help me on this , In my environment I have around 1000 servers , we are using wuss for windows update
but some server are missing they are updating by internet means automatic update.
can I find the server name which are taking update from internet ,I don't want check manually all the servers.

With Firefox open an update window came up; I clicked on Restart Later. When I later clicked on Firefox icon, a message brefly appeared "Firefox is damaged and cannot be opened" and the icon changed to a generic one with the "Do Not" slash across it.

Dilemma presented by Firefox automatic update

I just received a message offering to update my Firefox. But the message said the update is incompatible with my Webroot 1.72.0 add-on (a security and backup app). But "as soon as they are made comptible, Firefox will update and re-enable these add-ons". This is ambiguous. Does it mean Firefox will make them compatible for me and then perform its update? Does it mean it will simply wait for Webroot to supply an updated version of its add-on and not update Firefox till then? Or does it mean (contrary to the literal meaning but you never know) that Firefox will proceed with it update and leave me to get a compatible version of Webroot if one exists? (If the person answering this is another user just like me, how do you know? Do you have a close enough relationship to the designers of this Firefox update to speak with authority?)

hello, automatic updates happen over an encrypted secure connection with a update server at mozilla - downloaded pieces of update are checked for integrity and won't be installed otherwise. this is no infection vector for malware...
also updates won't change your settings in most cases. you didn't describe in particular what kind of setting changed but if its the homepage or your search provider this is usually a sign of adware/malware present on a system:
#please go to the firefox ''menu ≡ > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc).
#also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there.
#finally, run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner], which are specialised in adware and browser hijackers.

I've attempted the "fix" as prescribed on their website without success.......

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
