I cannot find my iMovie projects

since i updated my imac to the latest version my imovies have dissapeared. i have them backed up externally but why are they no longer in imovie?

It would be very unusual for iMovie to delete your projects so they are probably there somewhere.
iMovie will only see your projects if they are in the Movies/iMovie Projects/ folder. Is there a chance that you moved them somewhere else?
One way to find them would be to use Spotlight. That is the small magnifying glass icon at the top right of your screen. Click on Spotlight, and in the search box type .rcproject
Than should give you a list of your project files.
Click "Show All In Finder" so you can tell where they are.

Macs don't come bundled with iDVD anymore. If you have an older Mac that came with an iLife disk, you can install iDVD from that.
If your Mac didn't come with iDVD, you can still find iLife '11 disks in some stores.
There are other programs that can create DVDs, but I've never used them. From what I've heard, they're not as good as iDVD.

  • Cannot find the iMovie application

I just started teaching at a new school which uses iMacs. The students in my classes are doing video work, and need iMovie. For some reason I cannot find iMovie in the applications folder (nor any of the subfolders). It doesn't show up in a search either. When I use spotlight and find iMovie projects, however, the program will open. How can I find the .app file (I'm assuming that's what I'm looking for, but I'm not really a mac poweruser yet so I'm not sure) and put it back in the applications folder then put it back on the dock?
I also don't have access to the original install disc, so I have to fix this without reinstalling anything.
    Thanks!

Perfect, thanks a ton. The kids renamed the thing 0.app for some reason, that's why I couldn't find it

  • Cannot open old iMovie project

I have an old iMovie project from 2008 that I cannot open.
If I double-click it, terminal opens.
Recommended applications are Textwrangler, Terminal.... not really the right thing to watch a movie.
Final Cut Pro X cannot read the file, because it's in the "bundle" format. Quicktime is also grayed out.
Is this some weird format that is no longer readable by anything? Or can I turn it into an .mp4 file?
    Thanks.

iMovie doesn't support importing one iMovie project to another. When we try, we get exactly the error you quoted.
You can, however, import all the Timeline video and audio as a single clip to a new project. Or you can drag files from the Media folder of the project to the Timeline of a NEW project.
In the Finder, Control-click on the project icon and choose Show Package Contents from the popUp menu. You'll see the movie "Timeline Movie.mov" in the window that opens. You want to import that movie to a new project, or import selected files in the Media folder.
To import, drag the file to the Timeline of a NEW iMovie project. If importing the Timeline Movie, everything on the Timeline of the original project will arrive as a single clip in the new project.
If the project failed on the external drive, it may be because the disk does not use the disk format required by iMovie. Use Disk Utility to check the disk format, which must be "Mac OS Extended". If it's not that format, use Disk Utility to reformat the drive. (Which will erase all the files on the drive, so make backups.)

  • How do I find an iMovie project that is no longer showing up in iMovie?

Our students have 32gb iPad Airs and are currently using iOS 7.1.1. We've had several students come in to the IT office over the last couple days saying that a project they had been working on in iMovie has disappeared. The alert notification that popped up says that the video they were using can no longer be found or the file name has been changed. When we try to search for it, the iPad can't find the file. We check in the camera roll and there are NO more photos OR videos in her camera roll even though the student insists she had a good amount of photos and videos in there. In addition, "Upload to iCloud" was turned on for iMovie as well as Photo Stream in her iCloud settings. So where did her iMovie project and other pictures and videos go?
I tried accessing them via a Mac by opening the iCloud dashboard but no projects or photos and videos are showing up in there either. How can we avoid students loosing their school work in these apps?

As with the Mail app on a Mac, the iPhone's Mail app stores all email recipients in a list of previous recipients. The email address autofill feature when addressing an email pulls from Contacts and from the list of previous recipients.
Different from the Mail app on a Mac, there is no access to the list of previous recipients to add a previous recipient to Contacts that is not already entered in Contacts or to remove a previous recipient from the list - not at the present time anyway.

  • Cant find my imovie projects

I created many imovie projects. and my computer was getting to full. So i realized they were saved in folder called imovie events. So i deleted imovie completely and kept the folder beacuse i bought a new computer. so now i open the imovie events folder on my new computer and i cant find any of the files.
Do you know where they went?

    Hi, Bai416.
I would recommend moving the iMovie project back into the project folder ~/Movies/iMovie Projects.  Once this is done it should be able to open as well as burn to DVD.

  • Cannot open an iMovie project file

I can no longer open an iMovie project file from my external hard drive. Other iMovie projects on the hard drive can be opened, but not my main project. I've transfered it back to my MacBook Pro and then tried importing it into a new project, but I get an error -43 message about Quicktime not able to 'parse' the file. I have also tried Lennart Thelander's "File Fixer" but this still does not open the file. File icon and file size (39.02GB) seem to be the same as when the file could be opened. Is there a way to recover this file?
    Merci

  • I cannot open my imovie project

I just reinstalled leopard, before I formated my macbook pro, I copied my imovie project files and events to an external harddrive. My question is, how do I load them in imovie now? Which folder and files should I copy from my backup? Thanks Alex

You must move everything back to where it was on your internal drive, and then move it from within iMovie. If you are short on space, you can do this one Event at a time. Be sure iMovie is closed when you move it back, then restart iMovie so it will recognize it.
The reason you need to move your projects and events back relates to the architecture of iMovie. The video files are in the Event. The project consists of a text file of instructions that are executed when the project is shared. The project expects to find the Event file where it was when you created the project in iMovie. If you move the Event file from within iMovie, the Project file is updated with pointers to the new location. If you move the Event file in the Finder, iMovie has no way to know where the Event has gone.

  • How to find my iMovie projects and events since updating??????

i updated my macbook pro retina to osx mavericks then my iMovie to the newer version. I now can't find or use my pervious projects or events and I've spent days hrs on some of them. I stored and use most of my projects/events on my external hd. its hooked up. can someone who knows how this works walk me through how to get my imovie projects and events linked from my external hd to this new imovie version that for some reason cant link them like the pervious.
I hate when something work and then it gets updated and it doesnt work the same... frustrating.

okay, do a search for iMovie cache or iMovie thumbnails, and you'll probably find them. Unless you choose reject clips and then move rejected clips to the trash, then check the cache or thumbnails, your clips won't be truly gone.  Just deleting them from the windows doesn't quite work.  Sorry I can't remember the technical name for 'em, just going by my experience.  Also, try deleting your project, and throwing that rascal in the trash, then start again. Usually it's becuz you chose copy the original rather than move it (to be on the safe side), like I did......
    anyways, thanks for writin'

  • Front Row cannot see my iMovie Projects

Navigating to the iMovie Projects menu in Front Row brings up a 'No content found' message. I can see the projects in iMovie and have tried sharing in the Media Browser - but no luck!
Front Row can however see iMovie events without any problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Patrick

I moved my iMovie Events to an external HDD to save space on my primary HDD. I did this via iMovie, so my iMovie Projects remained intact and I was able to continue to view my iMovie Events (whether on internal/external HDD) no problem. However, iMovie Events on my external HDD were not visible in Front Row. Is there a way that I can have it both ways whereby I can store my iMovie Events on my external HDD and have Front Row be able to access them?
Perhaps the solution is to "Share" my iMovie Projects to iTunes, in which case the shared files will be saved on my primary HDD and visible in Front Row. I want to avoid this, if possible, as this is just an extra step that consumes space on my primary HDD and my iPod.
    Thanks.

  • IDVD can't find my iMovie projects

I am trying to attach my iMovie project to my iDVD project, but my iMovie projects aren't showing up- I simply get the spinning wheel.
So, on the left hand side of iDVD, I click Media, then movies and when I click on iPhoto it will show any movies that are in there, but when I click on iMovie, the wheel just spins, like it is searching.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

In iMovie did you try doing Share Menu > Share to Media Browser before opening iDVD? I say that only because that's what I've done in the past when I was moving things betweent the two programs. I always Share to Media Browser, and choose the Large Size. Then in iMovie, I always can see the project listed under the iMovie star icon in the Media Browser window.

  • HELP, iDVD 08 cannot find my iMove 6 HD movie

Hated iMovie 08 so I downloaded the iMovie 6 HD. Built my movie in 6 HD and selected share with iDVD. Problem is iDVD cannot see any movie for me to drag it into the movie section so I can burn my DVD. It only seems to recognize the movies I tried to create with the newer iMovie 08.
Surely, there is a way for me to get my iMovie 6HD project into iDVD 08 so I can burn, right? Please help.

How did you share / export your movie to iDvd'08 from iM6?
    Was it like this?
    1. Click Here:
    Like this perhaps?
    2. Click Here:
    3. Or did you use the media/ movies pane within iDvd itself?
    4. There is a 4th approach also (drag and drop of the QT movie to iDvd).
If none of the above works for you, then try a different QT file /movie. If that too fails (and assuming you have at least 25GB's on your main HD/Boot volume) then you need to consider a re-installation of the software. (but I'm hopeful that won't be necessary).

  • Cant find finalized iMovie project...

    Greetings!!
I clicked on 'finalize'... walked away from the mac... came back to find that I had no project. I have been able to find the project name in the movies folder, but when I choose to 'show package contents', I come up with a Proxies folder that contains a folder entitled "~%2fpictureblahblahblah231%2eavi" which contains a bunch of .data files.... Where in the world is my project that I worked so hard on?? Is it gone forever?????????????

If you know the name of the project, do a Spotlight Search

  • In iMovie 10.0.2 Why can't I find iMovie projects or events to transfer to external harddrive?

I am trying to backup my iMovie Projects and all of the media for a number of events. I have been having trouble with iMovie 10.0.2, but it could also be my computer. I am running a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro with Maverick. I have a MacMini that I would like to transfer things over to. aybe I just can't process and that is why I am having so many issues with iMovie. Regardless, I cannot find my iMovie Projects or Events in the finder and cannot seem to figure out a way to find transfer them. They seem to have been lumped into a new library (similar to iPhoto) and I cannot for the life of me figure it out. Any ideas?

Yeah, since they switched to using the iLibrary format I didn't recognize things. I figured it out and was able to transfer things. Funny enough, I was trying to solve for the problem described in the other thread.
Sadly, trying a different comp (my MacMini) I was not able to make those darned clips work. They just seem doomed. Thanks for all the help though! I shall now give you more points!
