Probably because you made an incorrect entry during the setup on the iPod.  Sometimes it is easer to delete the account on the iPod and reenter the setting rather than trying to find and correct erros. Google: setup "your email provider" on iphone for details of how to set up mail for your provider.  If you provid your provider someone here might give some details.

    Do you have more than one mail account on the iPod?  For out-going mail, the Mail app will first use the outgoing server associated with the account and then go to the out-goings servers for other accounts.  To check go to Settings>Mail..>Outgoing Mail Server SMTP.  Some providers do not allow mail to be send for other than the from that providers mail address.  (e.h.,can' send AOL mail via a Hotmail outgoing server).
    To me is sounds ilke the APL outgoing server is not on line. Also try resetting the iPod, nothing will be lost.
    Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Cannot send email from icloud, iPod touch w/ iOS 5

    i Opened up an icloud account for my daughter. I set it up on her iPod touch as well. When I log into iCloud on the web, click mail I can send an email but I can't receive an email. the error message states ( from my ipad for example when I send her an emil) that the recipient (daughters email addy) was rejected by server because the user is unknown. Anyone with any ideas that may help

    I have been having the same problems for the last two days now.  It won't let me send, but it will let me save it to my drafts folder.  I even tried opening the e-mail form my iPhone 5 and it won't let me send it there either.  The last two times i ended up copying the contents from my failed e-mail on my phone and pasting that into a new e-mail and that works.  I normally use the icloud web app to reply to e-mails when i'm at work (using win 7) and it is very frustrating.

    Thanks for the quick response.
    I did call my ISP and he said the Port should be set at 25, it was defaulted at 995. I changed it to 25 and after that I couldn't receive or send mail.  Since Christmas, he was receiving and sending mail, no problem, on Port 995, it just started doing this.  So I set it back to 995 so he can at least receive his email.  I've talked to a few people and they have been having issues with their email on their iPods.  I think it may be our ISP.  Might just get him a Gmail account.  What do you think?

    So I bought for like 20 pounds an ibook stupidy rather than from kindle app.
    1) i cannot open the ibook on  with calibre because it is locked! (restricted access - as it is a copyrighted work i guess - but i've paid for it!)
    2) I cannot sync the ibook with my ipod touch with my gf's mac (music and photos sync fine!)
    3) I thought the purchase would be linked to my email adress/Apple ID and not the mac.... I have three PCS at home (i live in a different country - france - to my gf -england-) but have no idea how to transfer the ibook from her mac to my PC. (i cannot transport my pcs)
    How do i read the ibook???
    (Either on my touch or my windows pcs)

    1) Paid iBooks are copy-protected and can be read only on Apple's devices. The same applies to Kindle, Nook and Google Books.
    2) Difficult to offer suggestions without knowing details; version of iOS on the iPod, version of iTunes, whether you've correctly selected books to be synching on the appropriate tab for your device, and whether this computer is the one you normally use to sync your iPod.
    3) Your purchase is synched to the iTunes Store account under which it was purchased. Did you purchase using your own iTunes Store account, which would be tied to the French iTunes Store, or your girlfriend's iTunse Store account which is tied to the English iTunes Store?
    Finally, you cannot read the book on a computer. Apple has yet to provide a reader for either Windows or Mac OS X.
    If you can provide additional information about your situation and the problem, someone can probably offer suggestions.

  • Cannot get the passcode to authenticate from iPod Touch to Win XP

    My setup: iPod Touch with 2.1 firmware, WinXP SP3, iTunes 8.0.1.1, Remote 1.1.1. I use a proxy server to get to the web on port 8081, and also use Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 as my firewall (although I just noticed that my Windows Firewall is also enabled, don't know why). TCP 3689 and UDP 5353 are enabled for all inbound/outbound connections in Kaspersky. I have the correct settings in iTunes (look for remotes). When I launch Remote from the Touch, it immediately appears in iTunes and asks me for the 4-digit code. I enter the code that appeared on the iPod, and then it just spins and spins and spins, finally conks out. I've tried rebooting, also uninstalling/reinstalling Bonjour, as well as Remote itself. Still no go. Any and all assistance would be GREATLY appreciated; I'm pretty sure this was working a while back (before updating Remote software). Thanks

    Just want to emphasize that the weird thing is that when I start the Remote app on my iPod Touch and click on Add Library, it IMMEDIATELY adds the name of my iPod to iTunes, and the Verify code screen displays. So it's definitely finding the iPod and the Remote application, just won't authenticate.

    My new ipad is great except I am having issues with email.  I tried making all the settings match my iiphone which is finally working properly but there is one setting that it will not let me change which I believe is the critical one.  Anyone have a fix?

    Everyone in my household cannot get or send mail on their Apple Mail for iPad and iPhone. We all get the same message: "The user name or password for [account] is incorrect." This just started happening yesterday afternoon. No problems before that. I called my hosting company and Apple, and both blamed the other. My Apple system is always updated, so I have the latest version of Maverick. Had no problems with it up until now.
    However, I awoke this morning to find downloaded emails in the same program, but when I go to "get mail," it says the same thing, and still won't allow me to send or receive.
    Here's the kicker. I also use Gmail with the exact same accounts (yes, I need both since Apple Mail does things that Gmail doesn't, and vice versa). No problem! I get all my emails and can send with no problem. So, my hosting company claims it can't be them (makes sense). It only happens using Apple Mail, and I have several email addresses. None of them work (other than the strange phenomena of suddenly getting some of them downloaded for no apparent reason).
    What do I do from here? I've changed passwords, deleted and tried to set up my emails, only to get the message that they probably will not work. And they don't. I have shut down and restarted my iPad and iPhone, to no avail.
    Thank god for my Gmail account, or my business would be closed.
    Again, this is happening on four devices in my home: 2 iPads and 2 iPhones.

    I have a comcast account I use on my phone and use it for receiving and sending mail. When you look at the account in settings, you need to check each of these
    incoming mail server: mail.comcast.net
    username: the part of your email address before the @
    password: your password
    outgoing mail server: smtp.comcast.net
    Under Advanced
    Use SSL: On
    Authentication: Password
    Server Port: 995
    If you cannot make it work from changing settings in the account, delete the account and start over. Use the "Other" setting when starting the account. It is a POP3 account and make the entries I gave you. Once you do that, it should check the entries and validate the account. You shouldn't have any trouble from there. Those settings will work from either the iPhone on cell, or wireless. Mine will even work when I'm at home on my wireless there, which is on the Comcast network.

    you should look in your applications folder to see if mail is still there. the dock icon is pointing to mail being in your applications folder. it has probably been moved or deleted for some reason from the app folder. do a spotlight search for your mail program. if it is still on your computer, move it back to the applications folder and when you click the question mark, it should see it is back and open. The email folder in your library shouldn't have to be touched. you need mail.app itself.

    I tried it again using "save link as", and this time it actually worked! I just now downloaded several more using the "save link as" option, and it works perfectly. Thanks. Problem solved.
