I cannot get firefox to access any web pages, main menu appears frozen

I have downloaded the most up to date firefox but cannot get the Start page to search for anything

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Cannot get multiple tabs with multiple web pages

    Hi, My plain vanilla firefox browser in Win 8 has stopped giving me multiple tabs when I access more than 1 web url. Before say I access 5 sites, then for each site I get 5 tabs so I can easily switch between web pages. Now they all appear under 1 tab only. Ticking the box in Tools/Options/Tabs/open new window in a new tab instead, doesn't work...very frustrating....any ideas? Many thanks

    I'm not sure I understand the change, so let me mention a few things and you can reply with comments and clarifications.
    How are you directing links to new tabs: do you use one of these methods?
    * right-click > Open Link in New Tab
    * Ctrl+left-click
    * middle-click (using a mouse scroll wheel)
    Other issues:
    * Is Firefox's tab bar not showing or behaving strangely? (Please describe in more details if applicable.)
    * If the problem is that the Windows Task Bar is not working the way it used to, check the ''last'' setting on the Tabs panel of the Options dialog: "Show tab previews in the Windows Taskbar" to see whether that is what got turned off.
    * If the problem is that Google results used to automatically open in a new tab but now they open in the same tab, you need to select "new window" in Google search preferences: https://www.google.com/preferences

  • How can you get firefox to refresh a web page like every few hours to keeep you logged into a account

    not really a trouble it would just be handy to be able to set firefox to refresh a page thats loaded at a set interval eg 1-5hours because I come home from work and I'm logged out of web page like if someone resets router etc

    also on pages like this so i could keep tab open and see replies without just by switching tabs and not needing to refresh when i do this I know this seems lazy but would be helpful if someone knows a way

  • I cannot email a link to any web page from Firefox 22. How can I fix this?

    I am unable to email a link to any webpage from Firefox 22. I have tried everything I can find to fix it. Nothing works.
    There is no longer the ability to right click and send an email link. The "Email link" in the "file" drop down on the menu bar doesn't work either. I even tried one add on program for emailing links. That didn't work.
    If I didn't lose all of my bookmarks, I would reset to the Firefox defaults. I have had to resort to using Chrome to send any links to webpages.
    There has to be some way to fix this. Please help if you can.
    Thanks

    Make sure that you have set a default mail program properly.

  • How do I get Firefox to automatically size web pages?

    Seems to me one of the features of html is that it's the browser's job to resize the page to the current window, if possible. New Win8.1 machine, newly installed Firefox, doesn't seem to do that (consistently, if at all.) Any option to do this?

    O.P.: I should point out there's a BIG difference between "zooming" to fit, and "sizing" to fit. A browser can and should adjust spacing between elements, and even re-arrange elements, to get the page to fit, if possible. Sometimes it's not possible, because the page has specified the formatting. In my case, it seems like FF '''never''' gets it right. Even this very page has the scroll bar at the bottom, which should be completely unnecessary.

  • I cannot get Firefox to acceot new home page,

    HP desktop running Windows 7.
    Drag and drop my Comcast home page icon to the "home" at the other end of the toolbar does not take. I did the same with my laptop with complete success.

    That's not the only way to set your homepage, try another method and see if that works.

  • Safari can't load any web pages

    I just installed Safari on a WinXP Pro machine and it shows a Can't Open Web Page error when trying to access any web page, while FireFox and IE function without problem. There are no proxies; local firewall is disabled; tried re-installing and clearing App Data. Safari loads file:// pages OK, so it appears to be something in the network access. (Not a DNS issue since I tried loading by IP address as well.)
    Any ideas?

    I am using 4.42 version of safari.i did not get any message the thing is that when i enter my user name an password it just refresh the login page.

  • Since switching to Firefox 4 I'm unable to access a web page by pressing "Enter" after typing the url in the address bar; I now have to click on the bar; how do I change things so that I can go back to a keyboard shortcut?

    I use keyboard shortcuts whenever possible but since updating to Firefox 4 I can no longer access a web page simply by pressing "Enter" after typing the url in the address bar. Can I get back to this useful shortcut somehow and avoid having to fiddle with a mouse?

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Have been using firefox for years but now having many problems two days ago could not acess any web pages without a firefox message saying page could not be ver

    Went on the internet on Friday but a box appeared saying firefox could not verify web page and somebody could be trying to impersinate the web page this was my home page it gave me two options the first was get me out of here or that I understood the risks and to continue I clicked the latter and my home page came up this box continued to appear on each occasion I tried to acess any web pages but when I tried to acess Facebook the box only gave me the option of get me out of here it also did this when I tried to acess Mozilla Firefox to see whether there was a problem with the browser I tried to reinstall the browser but the problem persisted I finally got round the problem by reinstalling my computer to an earlier time before I did this I also have the option for Google chrome on my computer and this browser worked fine Facebook etc I prefere Firefox but although the warning box hasn't materialised since I reset my computer Firefox has become unstable where it has frozen on a web page and the only way I can get out is to start the task manager and end the programme even though the task manager is saying that the page is still working correctly but after I have ended the running of the programme it will not reload the firefox browser but again google chrome is fine I have to restart the computer to fix this problem any ideas thanks.

    Check the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
    Check out why the site is untrusted and click "Technical Details" to expand this section.
    If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
    You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
    *Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
    Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
    *Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the <b>issuer of the certificate</b>.
    You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
    If <b>"I Understand the Risks"</b> is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
    *Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.
    *Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate.
