    This happened because if Mail.app was moved from /Applications or placed in a sub-folder there, the update (Security Update 2012-004) couldn't find it and fails for writing new files to Mail. This update updates Mail 4.5 to 4.6, consequently the message that 4.5 is incompatible, since it's looking at the now "old" 4.5 version.     Basically, make sure Mail.app is in the Applications folder inside the Macintosh HD folder, and sitting by itself not in an enclosing folder. Then get the update from Apple Downloads   and run that again.

    Can we assume that you checked with your ISP or email provider to make sure that their service wasn't disrupted? Can you use Safari nd other apps that need an internet connection?
    If you know that the service is working, and you have internet service, close the mail app and reset your iPad and then try again.
    Closing apps in iOS 7 works like this. Drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
    Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    This can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked (check the permissions on the about:permissions page).
    Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.

    Same thing happened with my iPhone 4S - no one is any help.  Thanks Apple for such a crappy update!  I've called Apple, they say the SIM card needs replacing, I go to my service provider they tell me nothing wrong with the SIM card - provider tells me I now need a new phone.  Sheesh!  If someone has a solution to this it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Update 10.5.6 Cannot log into POP email account

    After the upgrade to 10.5.6 I cannot log into my email account anymore. I get a message saying that the mail server does not recognize user or password. My wife has an account with the same provider and it works, however, when she tried to create a test account with the same information she gets the same behavior. Additionally I cannot see any of the email previously stored locally, the folders are there but they are empty. Any help would be appreciated

    PS. We have tried deleting the plist in Preferences and a few other things suggested in this discussion thread already, nothing works.

    This issue may be closed.
    The correct account information was entered, but the preferences file (com.apple.mail.plist) was freshly saved upon closing Mail, ie., the original, corrupt Mail preferences file was retained, so Mail would not connect to the account.
    When I closed Mail and deleted the preference file (com.apple.mail.plist) Mail was then able to connect to my account and download. I was also able to Import email from a previous version of OS X and this mail was imported to an "Import" folder.

    you should look in your applications folder to see if mail is still there. the dock icon is pointing to mail being in your applications folder. it has probably been moved or deleted for some reason from the app folder. do a spotlight search for your mail program. if it is still on your computer, move it back to the applications folder and when you click the question mark, it should see it is back and open. The email folder in your library shouldn't have to be touched. you need mail.app itself.

    Did you change the email address associed with yur account?  If you only changed that, your Apple ID address is not changed.  See:

    Thanks for trying to help.  I don't know whether I could have solved this on my own.  I got in touch with our software support company who talked me through the set-up.  First I had to download an app called "Enterprise Activation" and run that, then enter details of my email account including a password I wouldn't have known. It seems to be working now.

    It seems that you may have an issue with your input source on your Mac since you can use your iTunes account on your iPad and iPhone.
    On your Mac, go to the system preferences > language &amp; text > input sources > check keyboard &amp; caracter viewer
    Now on the top right corner of the menu bar, you should have a new icon, click on it > show keyboard viewer.
    Go to the iTunes store and try to connect to your account. The keyboard viewer will show you if you type correctly your password. Please be careful with capital letter and numbers.
