If you can access the internet but can't necessarily access all content then it's probably a proxy server issue.
If your ISP has given you proxy server information you need to enter it into Network preferences; however in the absence of such information then the following settings will work for 99% of home users:
System Preferences > Network
Select the AirPort from the left hand side (unless you normally connect with an ethernet cable)
Select "Automatic" in the list of Locations
Click on Advanced
Select the AirPort tab and ensure that your home network is the only one listed.
Select TCP/IP tab.
Configure IPv4 Using DHCP
Now click on Renew DHCP Lease. After a few seconds you should get an IP address (probably 192.168.x.x)
Click on Proxies tab.
Select Auto Proxy Discovery and Use Passive FTP.
DEselect all other proxy settings.
Click on OK and Apply, etc.

When I first try to open it the pop us says: "You can't use this version of the application "iPhoto" with this version of OS X. Version: 9.2.1" When I try to update, it pops up to say "These apps cannot be accepted by your apple id - These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID and they will be available in that Apple ID's purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the application". I checked and there is nothing under the "purchases" in my App store. Then will say "update unavailable with this apple id - This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or canceled." Then the third pop up says "We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again". Just want to know how do to fix.

After I upgraded to Mavericks I was also having this message when I tried to update. There was a previous post about this problem which offered this simple solution which worked for me:

Got it! Thanx. What I did was go to my account, check that they had my new ID and Password which they did, then hit reset button. All fixed.

From the Mail menu bar, select
Mail ▹ Preferences... ▹ Accounts
Select one of your IMAP accounts in the list on the left, then open the Mailbox Behaviors tab, Uncheck the box marked
Store deleted messages on the server
Do the same in your other IMAP accounts. Save the changes when prompted.

Cannot get .wmv videos to play in HTMLHelp output

I successfully uploaded five .wmv videos and they display and play properly in the WebHelp output. However, I'm trying to generate the HTMLHelp output and the videos will not play. Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem, too. I'm using RoboHelp 9. I'm trying to add a simple screen capture of selecting an item on a window.
I created a simple .avi file using SnagIt.
I tried to follow the instructions in the RH9 help at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/robohelp/robohtml/WS2D897D61-581A-447e-836F-50A19A2EFC12.html, but I didn't see anywhere to set options.
When I select the topic that contains this .avi file, the video plays automatically. When I look at the underlying HTML, though, it says that autoplay is off:

So I tried a different method that I found on the RoboHTML forum. I used Input > Help Controls > Shortcut and made a shortcut to wmplayer.exe with the filename as the argument. When I click that link, though, it brings up the library for Windows media player.
I added it to baggage.
Didn't help.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? The output is HTMLHelp (.chm) and currently I'm working on my local machine, on my C drive.

HT4567 I have a new iPad 2. I also have an older Macbook Pro with Mac OS 10.5.8. When I connect my iPad to my Mac, it says that I cannot use the iPad because I need iTunes v 7.0 or higher. When I try to update iTunes, it says I have latest version 6.8.

In order to download iTunes 10.7, which requires OS X 10.6.8, you have to buy OS X 10.6. It's available from the online Apple store, in the US by calling 800-MY-APPLE, or online here. After OS X 10.6 installation, run Software Update until there are no more updates available, at which point you'll be at OS X 10.6.8 and can install iTunes 10.7.

The only place you can download app from for your iOS device (unless you've jailbroken it) is the App Store. There are scads of free games there.

I have updated all of my plugins and still cannot get any videos to play i get either an error message or internet connection problem message and my internet is working fine

If you get an error that says can't backup, try moving the existing backup file to a safe location and thry again. again. You can find the location of the backup file here:

When I close firefox and then try to reopen it later it often says that it cannot open firefox because it is already open and that I must close it before it can open a new window.

When I look at the task manager it is not listed at all. It will work if I restart my computer.

Ugh, why can't i just get a video to play?

At this point I feel like I have tried everything, and I cannot get a video to play from my courses.
I posted before asking about vimeo but since that doesnt seem to work, I will ask a broader quesiton.
How can I get a video to work? It really seems like it shoudl be able to do this.
- I have elearning courses, inside i want to embed a video
-i then upload my courses to a site called bloomfire, basically a content management system for customers to login to
-i cannot upload a folder of files, so i upload the flash file , then the video file and my link to the file is cited in the captivate file..it will not work. I even have the 'behind the scenes' link which is one an amazon s3 server...still does not work.
-it also wont work if i host the video on vimeo
I have spent so much time on this I just need a video to play somehow...any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I am able to apparently link to a video I put on my own website that is just http. Should I be able to link to videos on vimeo normally? Or youtube?

What app do i need when i try to open a download and it says cannot open file, windows app not supported by osx

I am trying to download a video from the net and it appears in my download box, but when i try to open it, a message comes on that it cannot be opened because my system does not have the proper app to open windows. Can any one tell me what app i need to install on my macair to open my downloaded video?

You probably need to search for Flip4Mac to view a Windows video file on a Mac.

When Microsoft decided not to support Windows Media any more, they made Flip4Mac available for free. If you have not taken advantage of that free download, this might be a good time.
It may not completely solve the problem, but your Mac will play more with the free player. No need to pay for the Upgrades.

I cannot get a dvd to play. The error message says "media type not supported". I think it is a .m2ts. Any idea on how I can get it to play?
