I cannot get my Airport 5.5.3 to "see" my new timecapsule, hooked to my Windows XP Desktop via an ethernet cable.

How are you trying to setup the Time Capsule?
Wireless-> Network Mode, should be OFF as you already have wireless through your modem/router.
Network-> Router Mode, should be set to OFF "Bridge Mode".
Internet-> Connect Using, should be set to "DHCP".
Also, does your modem/router have a battery backup inside?
If so, you would need to remove the batteries to reset the network.
Let us know more about what you have and your setup.

The issue is most likely due to the fact that the AirPort Express may be too far from the AirPort Extreme to properly extend it with enough bandwidth to be useful.
It is important to understand that with Apple 802.11n or 802.11ac base station an extended network works in a wheel-like fashion with the base station to be extended at the hub and each extending base station along one of the spokes. This type of configuration does not allow for daisy chaining the base stations. That is, in your case, both the Time Capsule and AirPort Express are attempting to extend the AirPort Extreme.
Each extending base station must be within a certain signal quality range in order to extend the network properly. Please check out the following AirPort User tip for details.

  • I cannot get my Airport Extreme to talk to my cable modem

I cannot get my Airport Extreme to talk to my cable modem.  Cable modem is a Cisco, new, Charter cable company.  New wires throughout.  Connected to internet currently hardwired to cable modem.  So I have internet service to the modem.

The modem needs an extended power down period in order to reset, as it is "remembering" your computer and thus will not associate with the AirPort Extreme.

I recently transferred my internet service to another state.I have not yet moved my imac, just my pc laptop. I cannot get my airport extreme wireless router to work. The green light stays lit when everything is connected but I can't connect to the internet. Any suggestions?

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Plz advise.

Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Please advise.

If you have not already done so, I suggest that you temporarily disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Express that goes to the Tivo box.
Instead, turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect the laptop to the Ethernet port on the Express. See if you can get an Internet connection on the laptop.
If you still cannot get an Internet connection on the laptop, try another Ethernet cable that you know is working correctly.

  • How can I use an Airport Express to join my wireless network and provide an internet signal to my Power Mac g5 via an ethernet cable?

I have a power mac g5 that does not have a wireless card, and connects to the internet via ethernet cable.
I want to know how to set up an airport express so that it joins my wireless home network and provides the G5 with an internet signal.
This via an ethernet cable that is plugged  into the airport express and then into the ethernet port on the g5.
Please advise as I have configured the airport express in every way possible, the green light is on and when I plug the ethernet cable into the G5 my network cofigurations shows nothing and says that the ethernet cable is not plugged in (It is).
I get an internet signal if the ethernet cable is plugged directly into my wireless router, so the ethernet port works.
    Please assist. Thanks.

Two requirements that must be met to do what you want.......
    1) An AirPort Express 802.11n must be used. Check the Model No on the label on the side of the Express. It needs to be A1264. Any other model number will not do what you want.
    2) The Express must be configured to "Join a wireless network" and the option to enable Ethernet Clients must be checked.
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
The box to "Allow Ethernet Clients" must be checked
Please check to verify that your AirPort Express meets both requirements

  • I just bought an AirPort express. Currently I have a qwest wired router plugged into the back of my computer via an ethernet cable. Can I just unplug the ethernet cable and plug it into the AirPort express, then use the setup utility?

I just bought an AirPort express. Currently I have a qwest wired router plugged into the back of my computer via an ethernet cable. Can I just unplug the ethernet cable and plug it into the AirPort express, then use the setup utility? Most of the discussions involve an existing wireless network. I don't have one.

Correct. That's the way to set up the AirPort Express. After connecting your AirPort Express to the router, open AirPort Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) and follow the steps

  • Bridge an AirPort Express from an Extreme connected to a Motorola DOCSIS 3 cable/modem/gateway via an ethernet cable? Can I connect ethernet to the Express to setup/handshake/coordinate, and then unplug the ethernet cable from the Express?

In other words, does the AirPort Extreme NEED to be the device connected to the coaxial cable, or can I connect that cable to the Motorola SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem/wireless gateway? (My Internet provider requires DOCSIS 3.0 for speeds above 12 megabits/sec.)
Will the Airport Extreme "program" the Express via an ethernet cable, and than the cable can be removed?
The "bridge" or "repeater needs to be quite a distance away from the physically connected cable modem/wireless gateway and the ethernet- connected AirPort Extreme, and we have wall-to-wall carpeting, and the walls and ceilings are off-limits (family politics), so a looooong ethernet cable is out of the question.
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanx!
P.S. The 802.11 in my house (ground floor, about fifty feet away from the modem; in the living room about 35ft away *****! And Motorola touts this wireless gateway as having amazing coverage (360, I think they call it),but in fairness, this house is old and has a 5 hanset cordless landline and a microwave and a fan, etc., etc., etc......

Can I extend my wireless network by connecting one of my airport express devices to my airport extreme via an ethernet cable?  I have a wireless network with 3 airport expresses and 1 airport extreme functioning as the base station. I have CAT5 throughout my house.

    Welcome to the discussions, mib88!
Can I extend the network a second time with another Airport Express...
The short answer would be no. If you want more details, please continue to the next paragraph.
Apple's "extend a wireless network" works just like the hub and spokes of a wheel. Your main hub is either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme and the AirPort Express is at the end of a spoke. You can add more devices at the ends of other spokes, but these devices will communicate directly to the hub, not to another device at the end of a spoke.
Apple does offer an option which is is known as a "static WDS", which can consist of a "main", "relay" and "remote" device. The problem here is that this type of setup has two huge drawbacks:
    1) All of your faster "n" devices will drop down to much slower "g" speeds
    2) The bandwidth or speed capability on the network will drop down to only 25% of the original bandwidth with a "main", "relay" and "remote" on the network.
Don't think you want this on your network. Your best option is to connect the new AirPort Express to the "hub" using an ethernet connection. If you can't run the ethernet cable, take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by sending the ethernet signal over the AC powerline in your home.

  • Airport Express as an end point on a wireless network and connect a computer via the ethernet port?

Can I use my Airport Express as an end point on a wireless network and connect a computer via the ethernet port? - I'm wanting to connect a computer that does not have wireless and is in another building.

The requirements for this to work are:
    1) The AirPort Express must be the 802.11"n" version. Model Number is A1264
    2) There must be adequate wireless signal stength where the Express will be located
    3) The Express must be configured to "join" the wireless network with the option checked to activate the Ethernet port

  • I cannot get my Airport Extreme network up and running

Here's the scoop. I have two computers, a PowerMac G5 w/o an Airport card and a PowerBook G4 w/ an Airport card. I also have an Airport Extreme base station to which I would like to connect both computers on my DSL acct. The problem I have is similar to one posted earlier today by "Tannerama"
-I have connected my modem to the WAN port on the base station.
-I have connected my G5 computer to the LAN port on the base station.
-I have changed the network settings in System Preferences to connect via DHCP.
-The Network Status shows the Built-in Ethernet is connected via DHCP on router 10.0.1.1
-My DSL acct is through SBC using a SpeedStream 5360 DSL Modem.
Everything looks good.......... BUT.... I cannot connect to Safari, Internet Explorer, or Firefox.
Any input I can get to help me is greatly appreciated.

Try resetting your connection: pull power to both the Base Station and modem for five minutes. Then plug the modem into power and wait a minute. Then plug the Base Station into power and wait a minute. Then see if you get internet access.
If you still have trouble - on a Mac that is able to connect to the internet via a direct cabled connection to the modem, take a look in System Preferences->Network->Show ethernet built in. Tell us what settings are found under the PPPoE tab, and the TCP/IP tab.

  • Cannot get my airport express to allow multiple internet users.

Good morning.  I recently had TW install internet and phone (cable, but no TV) at my home.  My modem is a Scientific Altanta DPC 2203 and I have my AirPort Express hard-wired to the modem.  I was able to access internet using my MacBook, but cannot get a wireless connection on my iPhone, my beau's iPhone or his laptop. Time Warner (RoadRunner) keeps insisting the problem has to be in the wireless router. I have read the manual for AirPort Express and run through every tab of the set-up menu and cannot figure out what is wrong.
I would be grateful for any help you might offer.  I'm convinced this is a simple problem and I'm overlooking something obvious, but maybe not.  The tech support people at TW are very argumentative and insistent that this modem does not distinguish or create single users.  In my experience, it is usually an issue with the router, not the modem.
    Many thanks,
    Elaine

    On your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utiltiies > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
Click the Internet Connection tab just below the icon
    Settings should look like this.....
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address
Click Update to save any changes and allow 40-45 seconds for the Express to restart
Power down everything on the network....modem, Express computer(s), printers, etc.....order is not important
Wait at least 15 minutes...longer will not hurt
Start the modem first and let it run for 2-3 minutes by itself
Start the Express the same way
Start each device one at a time about a minute apart until everything is powered back up
    Check for proper operation.
Call the cable company to tell them they were right

  • Please Help: I cannot get the Airport Extreme settings right with AT&T DSL

    AT&T Motorola 2210 DSL Modem.
I have tried both bridged on/off and different configurations on the Airport Extreme, but I cannot get online. I am out of ideas. I called AT&T tech support and because it's not one of their wireless routers, they wanted to charge me to troubleshoot, ridiculous.
    Please help

If you find that the Double NAT setting will not allow the PS3 to connect correctly, your only other option is to change the configuration of the modem to either +PPP on the computer+ or +Bridge Mode+ and then configure the PPPoe service on the AirPort Extreme.
I assume that you have already set the modem up using the default IP address of 192.1681.254 (I think this is it). You'll need to locate the page to change the settings and it will probably have a red warning sign on it. Either PPP on the computer or Bridge Mode will work. Update to save settings.
Then under the Internet icon in AirPort Utility:
    Connect Using = PPPoE
enter your user name (probably your email address with the service provider)
    enter your password
Leave the Service Name area completely blank
    Connection = Always On
    Disconnect if Idle = Never
    Update to save settings.
That will eliminate the Double NAT issue and the PS3 should get a clear indication. As I said, when you have the PPP connection on a device other than the modem, you may see an occasional drop and restart of your connection. That seems to be a fact of life with this type of setup.

  • I cannot get my Airport Utility to recognize my Airport Express

My base station is set up. I've reset my Express several times but I still cannot get the utility to "see" the Airport Express...I've spent way to much time trying to figure this one out...any advice...?
Using Version 5.3.2 (532.8) (just did the update...didnt' work before either)
    --K

I have the same issue, I was able to narrow it down to the software on the Mac, I have a Mac book pro and a pc laptop, the pc can see and change the airport extreme setting no problem (which annoys me due to me not wanting to use PC anymore), but the Mac book does the same thing as the initial poster above. I was on the phone with 3 different people from Mac and the best thing they could come up with was bring the Base station and Mac book to a Genius Bar.
Steps that I have already tried that have not worked are as follows.
    • Created new account to test the network connection.
    • Deleted, recreated the network connection and rebooted Laptop
    • Deleted the Airport Extreme base station utility and reinstalled the latest one (Rebooted after delete, rebooted after install)
    • Tried to access the router via hard wire still nothing
