I cannot get my @ button to work on the iMac why is this not working?

Cant get the @ button on my iMac to wwork is there another way to get it to work other than the usual way of shift up and @

If you have access to another keyboard, you could see if the issue is really in that,
or if the problem could have some other cause... Even a PC keyboard may help
to troubleshoot this one aspect. I try to always have a spare USB keyboard/mouse.
Not sure if you could re-assign other keys, such as the F_ keys across the top, to
have a different one for the @ symbol. There is a code for each one of those items
and you could use it, or have a text document handy to copy-paste that one item.
And if you have an antique iMac, or a newer intel-based one, they have different
operating systems; and troubleshooting may take on different dimensions, too.
So advice and results may vary depending on hardware & software in use.
Good luck & happy computing!

    I have many projects made in imovie HD that are not updating to iMovie 10 on my new iMac.  Why is this not working as stated on the article HT202853?  How do I get my projects back from backup after old iMac crashed?

    According to:
    Update projects and events from previous versions of iMovie in iMovie (2014) - Apple Support
    you can update from iMovie versions 7, 8 and 9, but iMovie HD is iMovie 6.
    Maybe you can update in two steps, first from iMovie 6 to iMovie 7, 8 or 9 then to iMovie 10.
    Geoff.

    No one here can help you. If your phone is no longer under warranty, a third-party repair shop will most likely be your best bet. You can't mail the phone to Apple, in the US, as Apple does not accept international shipments. You could mail it to a friend/relative, in the US, & they could take it to an Apple store for you. Some Apple stores repair iPhones. Otherwise, you're looking at an out of warranty replacement.
    Good luck.

  • Work-around The Whine: why does this work? And is it BAD?

    Hello everybody, sorry to bring up The Whine again, but I was wondering if anyone can figure out why the following trick works to eliminate the noise.
    Also, could doing this regularly (all the time, basically) potentially be bad for the system in any way?
    This is the work-around I've been using:
    1. Open Photobooth, then Force Quit that application (you must Force Quit rather than simply quit)
    2. Put the Macbook to sleep, waiting a few seconds until the indicator light starts pulsing.
    3. Wake up the computer.
    Voila. That always does the trick, eliminating the whine until either the next time I boot up or the next time I open and quit Photobooth in the normal way.
    I suppose force quitting may keep the processor slightly busy somehow?
    Don't know...

    John P.,
    You say that all the notebooks that you know of make
    some kind of noise. How many notebooks is that? Not
    trying to be a jerk or anything but it better be like
    dozens and dozens to make this claim. I have heard
    the exact opposite of this claim from users that have
    owned a few notebooks as well.
    Hi Jerome,
    No problem... I'll clarify..
    5 notebooks personally, so when I say "all notebooks that I know of", it's a true claim because that is exactly what I'm saying.
    If this noise is caused by capacitor that is at some
    miniature threshold then why does the noise go away
    when said remedies are employed? Does the capacitor
    get bigger? Doesn't make sense but I appreiate that
    you want to reassure original poster.
    Actually I may have misspoken--it may be called a "voltage regulator" and it sits directly West of the CPU and controller chip. They do make noise and from what I have been told and remember, they can dampen it w/ a capacitor but that's about it. It's just the nature of the beast for that type of component, I'm told.
    What "I" think it may be is the power fluctuations, or lack thereof, in the Intel chip causing it--when you put a load on it, there's a power fluctuation because your CPU usage is going up/down a little bit, but when you're not doing anything it's very little it causes it to make a little noise. No big deal, but just as long as it's not blaring in your ear when you're trying to use your computer. My ZV6000 does the same thing, but it doesn't matter when you've got a load or not--seems to do it more when I have Cool 'n' Quiet enabled.
    This is not right. I am sorry.
    If this noise is normal then I'll take no MacBook.
    You know it is being fixed apparently on the MacBook
    Pros by motherboard replacement.
    I never said anything about pro. I don't own one, nor have I used one. I can't say how profound in comparison to the Macbook (non pro) it is.
    I'm sure if Apple thought it was a big enough problem, they would act either more quickly about it, but it's not stopping me from checking my e-mail or going on the Web.

    private Card[] DeckOfCards;It is almost universal in Java to write class names with upper case initial and variables with lower case; adopt it.
    Currently I also favour using a trailing underscore to denote fields, but that is less universal.

    >    private final int King = 13;This is a final instance field with a constant value. Shouldn't it be a static field of the class, rather than taking up storage in every instance?

    for(int j = 0; j<2;j++){

    for ( int value = 1; value <= 13; value++ ) {

    public void shuffle(){Contrary to popular belief, this works fine. Though using Random.nextInt(deckSize) would be more efficient. The efficiency lost creating a double, then converting to int is greater than the gain in using a decrement.

    >       public Card(int Value, int Suit){
    value = Value;
    suit = Suit;This constructor has no effect on the state of the Class object. The inner class does not declare any fields with these names, so these assignments set the field values in the outer class.
    At the end of the outer loop in the constructor, the fields 'value' and 'suit' in the Deck object will be set to '13' and '3'.

    // Return the int that codes for this card's suit.
    public int getValue(){

    }This method returns the value of the value field in the outer class instance; the Card class does not declare a field. The value returned will be the same for every class instance.
    > // Return the int that codes for this card's value.Same bug as before.
    >      // Return a String representing the card's value
    // (If the card's suit is invalid, "??" is returned.)That's just a lie. The value returned has nothing to do with the suit.
    >       public String getValueAsString(){
    switch(value){
    case Ace: return "A";...
    default: return "*";}
    Stylistically I tend to do this sort of thing with arrays.
    But that's not a big deal.       > //Return a string representing the cards value
    //but with Aces set as high
    public String setAceHigh(){
    AceHigh = true;This is plain bad.
    The aceHigh_ field is a property of the Deck, not the card; the method to set it should be in the Deck and getValueAsString should do what it says whether aces are high or not.
    > // Return a String representing the card's suit.
    // (If the card's suit is invalid, "??" is returned.)Again, the returned string is based on the suit field of the outer class, and the stated default value is not what the method returns.
    > // Return a String representation of this card, such as
    public String toString(){
    if (AceHigh = true){
    return(setAceHigh() + "" + getSuitAsString());
    }else{
    return (getValueAsString() + "" + getSuitAsString());
    } The toString method of the inner class should not invoke methods which set fields in the outer class (even if it only sets them to the value they had before).
    As the values of the srting returned is dependent onto on the state of the field in the outer class, this will return the same string for every class in the pack.

  • Centering a page on the screen, why's it not working??

    Hi,
    I'm trying to centre my whole site so that it appears in the centre of the screen, no matter what size of screen it's being viewed on.
    I've had a look at other messages about this, and thought I'd done what they said but it's not working.
    I'm using Dreamweaver, and in the CSS rule definition for the DIV tag called #ContainerArea I've set Type = absolute, Height = Auto, Left & Right Placements = auto and Top & Bottom Placements = 0
    When I also change the text alignment to centre, this then centres all the text within the 'container area' but the actual area itself is still left aligned on my screen.
    It's not live, still just on my hard drive, so I can't include any links.
    Can anyone help - please?
    Thanks very much,
    Nicola

    All was find until I ran several updates via ThinkVantage.
