  • Cannot get online with netbook

We upgraded to Infinity but now I cannot get online on my netbook. The icon and wireless connection panel indicate I am connected by when I launch my browser (IE) it says unable to display webpage. My husband managed to get online by using Openzone but this is not very satisfactory when we are paying for Infinity. Our OS is Windows XP.

    Hi Jady and welcome
It's good you've got on line with Openzone, I presume from your own signal... checks that wireless connectivity is working between your Netbook and HH3.
If you go to your HH3 you can pull out a useful plastic card/tab which has your wireless code on it.
Then with your Netbook click on your wireless icon... probably bottom right and click on your wireless name.
This should say something like connect, enter in the wireless key exactly as shown on your tab/hub settings card.
    And it should connect.
I removed the BT Help Desk software off my XP PC as it caused connection problems... kept saying connection failure did I want it fixed... say yes and click on the picture of the HH I was using then it went and connected.
I didn't have this problem on any of my other machines so as this XP PC was the only one with the BT software I removed it as it is uneccessary and the problem never re-occured.
A useful wireless scanner that's free http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/ will show your home signals and
can help identify a clear or least used channel you can moved your HH3 from it's Automatic setting to this least congested channel.
Video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf2kZCfYTxI It's the older version 1 but similar. You get a list of your signal and all your neighbours along with a time graph showing their signal strengths... the lower the number the stronger the signal is.
Mine is around 40 to 50,  a picture in my post HERE showing my signal is the strongest and my neigbours which is on a nearby channel is weaker.... If it was the same signal strength I would move my HH3 wireless setting off the Automatic setting and set it to a clearer channel.
Let us know how you get on... I'm using a Win 7 laptop but have the PC running win XP upstairs and could go thru the exact log in process if you still have probs.

  • Cannot get online with d-LINK wireless router

I am using a PB G4 with an Airport card firmware 9.52. All software is up-to-date. (OS 10.4.6)
The airport works fine in other locations -- seeing many signals and getting onto internet.
But at home it is not working. My roommate has an iBOOK and it works fine on our home network. He sees and gets signal and connects to internet. He also SEES many of our neighbors signals.
My laptop doesn't see OUR signal -- nor does it see any of the other signals.
If I connect directly with ethernet cable, I am online. But not with airport.
We have cable with a dLINK 2.4 GHZ (DI-614+) wireless Broadband router.
I've checked airport card connections. This completely boggles me because I can connect in other venues AND because my roommate and his friends can connect with different MACS in our house.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I am not an expert, but I downloaded the Net Magic softwaret that was on the dlink installation disk and it really helped. It's shareware with a 30 day free trial but once it sets up your system with the wizard you don't have to keep it. You might try googling it if it didn't come with your modem.

  • Cannot get online with safari etc

Just back into school this morning and went on to the wireless network in school. I got all my emails and went to see if I could surf the net.....but although I got all my emails I could not go online with Safari or anything else. I could use the FTP to view my school info for updating the webpages. I do not think that any thing happened in school over the break. I used my laptop on line at home but only dialup( no broadband in my area). I did however go into an internet cafe in town to download some big photos my daughter sent me. To do this I connected the laptop to a cable and it worked fine. Any help would be great. Thanks
    Dave

Strange. Do you have the chance to use an other notebook and try this one to log in with your username/password for the school's WLAN ? If you can get hands on an other student's notebook, ensure that it is not mistakenly their account being left active.
In this way, we would be able to determine whether or not your school account is okay. Then we can focus to the PB - but confessed I would need myself to get a closer look at this, since I don't remember of a way just disabling the web access via WLAN and allow it by LAN (you stated previously that a LAN connection works).
In the meantime, here are some ideas:
You may check your Internet connection settings: In the menu line, click to the wave symbol (signal strength) of your AirPort and from the menu select "Open 'internet connection'" or open it from the Finder (it should be at your "Applications" folder).
Ensure that your wireless connection at AirPort is set correctly (your school's network name should be selected). For testing purposes, you may remove all entries from the "Modem" connection settings.
You could also check your Internet connection with the "network service app" (applications folder / utility folder) to ensure that anything is set up correctly. Maybe you have the chance to walk through the settings with the network admin of your school's WLAN near you.
Sorry, it is just guessing. By the way, since I use the German version of Mac OS X, the programs and settings mentioned above may be named differently.

  • Have 3g reception but cannot get online with new 4s.

I just got a new 4s and whilst using it this weekend in Cork city centre with full 3g coverage shown I couldn't get online. Resetting it worked briefly but then stopped and wifi is working fine.  Any ideas? Thanks. Oliver

    Hi Minnamumu:
In the Airport Admin Utility, configure the airport with the following:
Airport Tab: Wireless Mode: Create a Wireless Network (Home Router)
    Internet Tab: Connect using: ethernet
Network Tab: Make sure the Distribute IP addresses is NOT checked.
Have a go at that, if that get's you up and running, then I would suggest going back under the airport tab and turning on some form of wireless security. (I recommend WPA2)
Let us know if that helps you out and get's you online!

  • Since installing version 4, I cannot get online with Firefox. No website works. Have reloaded twice. What to do?

Firefox show problem loading page, no matter what I try. Had no problems before installing version 4. Have reloaded twice to no avail. What to do?

If you see the message in here: www.google.com/firefox
'''you are updated''' see your user agent :
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 '''Firefox/9.0.1'''
all you have to do is to '''set another page as the home page''', as '''cor-el '''said with very detailed explanation in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/905310 here]
    '''copied from cor-el reply''':
"That text about not running the latest Firefox version is hardcoded on the www.google.com/firefox site that previous Firefox used as the home page and Google doesn't seem to maintain that page anymore. Current Firefox versions no longer use that Google site as the home page, but use the build-in about:home page as the home page. So Google assumes that you use an older Firefox version if you still visit that site and warns you about that and suggests to update. You can use another page as the home page like about:home or www.google.com or www.google.com/ig (iGoogle)."

  • Trouble getting online with Mac mini since upgrade to maverick

Although it shows full strength in the upper right, I cannot get online via Safari since my upgrade to Maverick, although Firefox works.

    thanks for your quick reply
    my safari version is 7.0.3
according to Software Update I am up to date - the Safari update was installed on 4/1 - can't remember if this problem started then -  possibly.
I use my ipad for almost everything - rarely use the mini anymore except to print or access  flash content.
This all came up as I am having scanner/printer issues since Maverick as well. I have been trying to fix that

    Hi,
Also try turning Off Face Time
    Open Face Time
    Go to the Preferences
    Set it to Off.
Also make sure your router has the Time and Date/Time Zone set as this upsets Face Time which in turn upsets IChat

  • Cannot go online with mail

I have recently joined a new ethernet network and now cannot go online with mail. Safari and othern internet applications run fine but when i try the connection doctor it says that i'm not connected to the internet.
I solved a problem on MSN by changing the proxy setting in the application, but i can't see how to do this in mail.
    Can anyone please help?

The Mac OS X 10.4.7 Update introduced connection issues as a result of (according to the documentation) "Mail now supports connecting to mail servers through a SOCKS proxy". If that's the problem, you must go to System Preferences > Network and disable the SOCKS Proxy in the network configuration used to connect to the Internet, if it's enabled.
Also, go to System Preferences > Network > Show: Network Port Configurations, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.

  • I cannot get online-does not accept password-any help??

I cannot get online. Network status lights are all red. Even if I connect with an Ethernet cord. When I enter a password, it does not accept it. A new window opens and asks for the password.

So how are you connected to the internet? Have you repowered your modem? have you repowered your router? if it does accept your password then the password you entered is incorrect.

  • Going online with two macs kills my internet connection!

Here is my situation. I have two macs an iMac and a MacBook.
I use Earthlink, have a BritePort modem and "HAD" Linksys wireless router. Everything was fine. No problems. I was able to get online with the two computers with ease, then I had problems connecting last week. If I went directly through the modem to my MacBook I can connect, but I would lose the internet intermittently throughout the day if i didn't.
Earthlink said everything was fine as far as signal reaching my modem. So I bought an Airport Extreme thinking it was the router. Both Macs connected wirelessly on their own but then I'd lose internet whenever BOTH tried to get online at the same time.
I would be working fine on my MacBook, but once my wife tries to get online with the iMac, it kicks us both off! If she's online on the iMac and I try to get online on the MacBook it kicks us off! This is what was happening with the Linksys too! I reconnected it, and it was only when both Macs accessed the internet that we both lost (or were fighting for) connection.
    What is going on?

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
What's the model number of your BritePort modem? When you examine the configuration of your AirPort Extreme using AirPort Utility, in the Internet panel, Internet Connection tab, what are the settings for "Connect Using" and "Connection Sharing"?

  • HT203200 Cannot get into itunes via Mac keep getting error −50 ?  help

Cannot get into itunes via Mac keep getting error −50 ?  help please

Make sure your Mac's software is up to date.
Open system Preferences > Software Update > Check Now.
Restart your Mac after all updates are installed.
    Then try iTunes.
Which OS X is installed on your Mac ?
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. The version is noted there.
Troubleshooting advice can depend on that information.
