I am getting the same message. This is what I did to update my apps.
Go to the App Store and search for one of the apps that needs an update. When the app appears in the search - there should be an Install button next to the app icon. Tap on it and see if the download will start. It worked for me.

When you post for help, please tell us which Mac OS X you have installed.
If you are running v10.6.8 Snow Leopard try the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
If you are running v10.7 Lion, try the OS X Lion Update 10.7.2 Client Combo
Either one of those combos reinstalls the App Store for you which may help.

that used to happen to me all the time! I would recommend going to a different sight or attempting to download it again ( you may have missed a step it can be tricky).

Apps are forever tied to the Apple Id that bought/downloaded them .
If its requesting your son's Apple Id it means those Apps where purchased/downloaded using that ID. The only way to get rid of that is to delete the offending Apps.
You will not be able to update Apps acquired with his Apple ID without his password.

This advice will sound like a joke or prank, but believe me it worked on my iPhone 5 and my daughter's. The lens mechanism got stock on each of our iPhones. We found a post on these message boards that said to hold the iPhone about 6 inches above a table or counter top and drop it so that it lands flat on it's back. Now try the camera ...Fixed! I had a similar problem myself. This is what helped me.
I went to the App store app, scrolled to the bottom, logged out of the account, re logged in with my Apple ID. Then went back to app updates. Once I put in my ID password all was fine.
