I Cannot Get Wi-Fi On My iMac!

I need to get Wi-Fi on my 24" Intel iMac so that I can sync Bento with my iPhone 4S. My broadband router is currently connected to my iMac by Ethernet cable.
When I go to System Preferences>Network, Wi-Fi is greyed out, shows as Inactive and I can't turn it on.
What should I do please?

if your router is sending out a wirless signal, you just need to connect your phone to that signal since your imac is already connected via ethernet.
You could also choose to share your internet connection via ethernet with those using wifi in system prefs>sharing>then select but don't check internet sharing. Set up your internet wifi signal with WEP pass and name and make sure it says, share your connection from "ethernet" to computers using wifi. then click the checkbox next to Internet Sharing and turn on wifi when prompted and then connect your iphone to that wifi signal.
you can also turn wifi on by going to system pref>network>turn wifi on
you can also click the radio button that says "Show Wifi in menu bar" and it should show up in your menu bar for you to access a little easier.

If a simple reboot doesn't fix it, try resetting the SMU.

Cannot get printer to work with iMac

I cannot get my Epson printer to work with my iMac , It just keeps saying it cannot find printer.
All the other settings are correct , its just the server that fails. I have downloaded printer files ,
sometimes it does recongise it and works, then it stops, I have tried downloading the program again but it makes no difference.
Need to use printer and scanner for my job, and this is driving me mad!!

It sounds like BT's hardware may have a firewall that's blocking more than it should.

Cannot get the website on my iMac to be seen on the internet

I am having trouble making the index.html file in the "Sites" folder of my home directory visible on the internet. This is just the "Your website here" page that came preinstalled with OSX 10.4.
I am not sure whether the problem lies with the Network Preference settings, with the AirPort Admin Utility settings or with my ISP.
The ISP told me that ports 80, 427 and 443 are not blocked. I pinged the DNS servers to make sure they connect.

I am trying to connect from outside of my network. From within the wireless network (PC#2, eMac, iMac) and from within the local lan network (PC#1, AirPort) I have no problem connecting to the website on the iMac. But connecting from outside my Network using the puplic IP I doesn't work.
I now have taken the AirPort and all the computers exept the iMac off line. Only the imac is connected via lan cable to my lan outlet in the wall. Using my new local IP address (172.16.126.246) I can of course still access the website on the imac but using the public IP address (222.228.213.117) which remained the same doesn't work.

Suddenly the computer stoped reading DVDs and the only time I can read a CD is if I restart. Quite often when I insert a CD it gets stuck and I cannot get it out until I restart and it shows up on the desktop where I can then eject it.
I have checked and double checked the finder prefs and all looks normal showing a check mark on CDs,DVDs etc. (the ones I want to show up on the desktop)
I have reset the PEAM, repaired permissions with both the disk utility on the computer and the disk utility when I start up in the Recovery Disk. I did notice that sometimes the permission repeat the same correction several times before it moves on, and sometimes it doesn’t. I have Windows installed on a partition but I keep it unmounted until it is needed for my wife’s work. The dock seems to be just fine and all the apps seems to run just fine. When I insert a photo CD iPhoto does not open but when I insert a music CD iTunes does open.
Also, most every time I open iPhoto it takes a long time(sometimes as long as 2 minutes) for it to load.
Sometimes my Mail (Mail 5.3) does not post new mail but most of the time it does.
Once and a while it seems like the computer slows way down but then it seems ok ten minutes later.
All of these ‘things’ seemed to have happen suddenly and I have not downloaded anything from the internet in some time.
Of course the warranty and extended warranty are both no longer in effect having had this computer for more than three years.
I am running Java and Adobe Player because some of the sites I go to a lot require both.

I believe that insufficient RAM may be the source of some of your problems. If you have a RAM of somewhere 4 to 8GB, you will experience smoother computing. 3GB doesn't seem right, so you might want to learn more by going to this site:

I don't know what know what's happening with your optical drive, but it seems you use your drive quite a bit. In that case, look into a lens cleaner for your machine. It's inexpensive, works quite well.

Well, the Import/Export instructions make it seem as if the two computers should be able to communicate this file thru wifi, but that's the linkage I can't seem tocreate with Import/Export. Should I instead email a copy to myself (thats what applecare suggested)? Copy it to and from a thumb drive? But then place the file where? And the article was helpful, but should I be trying to move the Library file or the Library.xml file (as iTunes Help suggests)? Sorry to be so clueless about it...I suppose I buy Apple in the hopes of not having to think about this stuff, which approach seems not to be serving me well. Thanks again for your time!

BUT I cannot get my 2 printers that were previously wireless to find the router signal. The worked fine on my current set up OS Mounitain Lion 10.8.4. Apple tells me it is the printer mfr issue and printer companies tell me it is apple issue. Any help appreciated.

Arguably, they're both right.
Changing your router changes everything, so your best course of action is to research the respective printer's documentation and determine how to reset them to factory default condition. Then, add them again using System Preferences > Print & Scan.
For that, I recommend you first "reset the printing system" according to these instructions: Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system. Its instructions for Lion are identical to those for Mountain Lion.
As the article states, it will remove all your existing printers, leaving the Mac's printing system in a similar "factory default" condition ready for you to create a new print queue for each printer, which you should probably do.

Cannot get windows 7 to install on new imac

I have a new "Thunderbolt" imac. Using the boot camp assistant disk that came with it (or the downloaded one), I cannot get windows 7 successfully installed. Mostly won't start up. Long hang-ups, mouse won't work. Have used Boot Camp on older mac Pro for a long time with perfectly consistent results, but am frustrated here. I have followed instructions, made several fresh install attempts, used stock mouse and keyboard that came with imac, poor results. Boot camp appears to be v3.0 something. Wish I knew better what to ask......

IMac G5 running OS 10.4.11. Started playing with a bluetooth speaker (may or may not be related). Now I cannot get past the blue screen on startup. I can get into safe mode. Tried install disc for disc utility and reloaded OS. Still get blue screen.

I have an older iMac G5 running OS 10.4.11. The other day I started playing with a bluetooth speaker (may or may not be related). Now I cannot get past the blue screen on startup.
I can get into safe mode. But no regular startup.
I tried disabling bluetooth, thinking that might be related. It didn't help.
I even tried using the install disc to run disc utility. That didn't work so I reloaded the OS.
But I still get hung on the blue screen when trying a normal startup.
All help would be appreciated.

Try resetting the PMU/SMU and PRAM/NVRAM. You'd need to identify the mode of resetting depending on the model of your G5 iMac. The Apple support sites that would help you for this are –

I have not been able to get the epson workforce to work on imac mountain lion. I first tried using the epson software.
Then read that I should do it from the mac's " printer/scan".
Unfortunately when I get to the screen that says --add printer--- i cannot get workforce to appear.
Can anyone walk me through it?
I have it connected to my netgear wireless router which is recognizing it on their management page?
