I cannot go online!! (on a different laptop)

Their is a MacBook in our house that has no access to the internet. All laptops in our house are connected to the internet just fine and we are using net-gear. On the MacBook, anytime I try to go on Safari or the iTunes music store, it doesn't connect.
I have a message saying the following anytime I open Safari:
Safari can't open the page "http://www.yahoo.com/" The error was: "There was a problem communicating with the web proxy server (HTTP)." (kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork:306) Please chose Report Bugs to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.
That was the message written on Safari. On iTunes, it simply tells me to check me connection. My connection is perfect. I've re-started the computer, turned off the computer for a few minutes, plugged off and plugged back on the router after a couple minutes, signed off the internet service and signed back on. I called Apple Support, but they were not much help. All they did is email me a couple links and they were not helpful. They gave me a link to the discussions/message boards here.
I think one problem might be this: We've had the MacBook since Christmas and we told the kids that receiving a Mac on the virus is rare. Maybe they thought Mac's were 100% invincible so they went ahead and downloaded a ton of games off the internet. This MacBook laptop was meant to be mainly for the kids. Right now, they cannot access anything online despite the internet connection showing that its 100% perfect.

You do not have a virus. Let's get that out of the way up front.
Try this: Open System Preferences, and select the Network pane. Choose Airport from the menu on the left, then click the Advanced button in the lower right. Choose Proxies from the screen that appears, and make sure that nothing is selected anywhere, under "Manually" or under "Using a PAC file." The error you get suggests your MacBook is looking for a proxy server that doesn't exist.
If that still doesn't fix it, create a new user and see if the new user has the same problem. Post back and let us know your progress.

    Please excuse me for being a complete beginner - could any answers be in non-techno form please as I'm not aufait with most of the terms used!!
    I installed our new HomeHub 4 yesterday and all computers/iphones/tablets managed to log in and go online - apart from one laptop.  It is our oldest, running Windows Vista and I don't know if that may pose a problem.  Having looked at other queries about this, I am still non the wiser as to how to get it online.  I have managed to sign it into BT-Fon perfectly ok and at present it is going online etc through that.  It obviously signs into the Hub but for some reason it just will not go through our secure network - it says it has signed into an unidentified network and has local access only.  When looking at the network it is on, it is the only computer.  My laptop shows every piece of equipment currently using the Hub, including this particular laptop, which seems to be on it's own network.
    What I was really needing to know is if I have to get the laptop to 'lose' its previous network memory as I read somewhere here that Vista computers seem not to like having to go on new networks.  If this is the case, how do I do it?  I can find my way around a computer (eventually!) but am not an expert so would be grateful for any instructions to be written in simple speak.

  • Cannot get online with netbook

    We upgraded to Infinity but now I cannot get online on my netbook. The icon and wireless connection panel indicate I am connected by when I launch my browser (IE) it says unable to display webpage. My husband managed to get online by using Openzone but this is not very satisfactory when we are paying for Infinity. Our OS is Windows XP.

    It's good you've got on line with Openzone, I presume from your own signal... checks that wireless connectivity is working between your Netbook and HH3.
    If you go to your HH3 you can pull out a useful plastic card/tab which has your wireless code on it.
    Then with your Netbook click on your wireless icon... probably bottom right and click on your wireless name.
    This should say something like connect, enter in the wireless key exactly as shown on your tab/hub settings card.
    And it should connect.
    I removed the BT Help Desk software off my XP PC as it caused connection problems... kept saying connection failure did I want it fixed... say yes and click on the picture of the HH I was using then it went and connected.
    I didn't have this problem on any of my other machines so as this XP PC was the only one with the BT software I removed it as it is uneccessary and the problem never re-occured.

    can help identify a clear or least used channel you can moved your HH3 from it's Automatic setting to this least congested channel.

    Mine is around 40 to 50,  a picture in my post HERE showing my signal is the strongest and my neigbours which is on a nearby channel is weaker.... If it was the same signal strength I would move my HH3 wireless setting off the Automatic setting and set it to a clearer channel. 
    Let us know how you get on... I'm using a Win 7 laptop but have the PC running win XP upstairs and could go thru the exact log in process if you still have probs.

    I cannot restore my iPhone after several attempts on two different laptops.  This is the message, "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because it is locked with a passcode.  You must enter your passcode on the iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."  I don't have that option on my  iPhone because I locked myself out, it reads "iPhone is disabled, connect to iTunes" what can I do?

    Place your phone in DFU mode (search Google) and restore.  You will lose all data on the phone.

    If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
    If you can't remember the passcode and don't have access to the other computer, you'll have to restore it and setu it up as a new phone.

  • HELP   Cannot run FLASH PLAYER on my LAPTOP Windows XP

    Sept 8 2011     I hv been trying to run Adobe Flash Player  v 10.1.3 on my laptop HP/Compac Presario V2410
    for weeks now.  I download program but it doesnt show up that it is on my computer. 
    I hv been trying every solution that ADOBE offers and I hv chked all over the internet.  I hv tried every browser  I.E.8,   Google Chrome, Monzilla FoxFire,
    and nothing works.   I must get a solution b/c I working on developing my WEBPAGE that uses ADOBE FLASH.
    Adobe FLASH PLAYER works on my 2 desktops...  well atleast in Monzilla FoxFire & Google Chrome, sometimes works in I.E. 8.
    On all my computers  FLASH doesnt showup in my CONTROL PANEL in the Add/REMOVE Program section.
    The name Adobe Flash shows up, but the megabyte amount doesnt.   So this leads me to believe that the program downloads, but never really
    uploads to my computer.  IT works only b/c it is already in GOOGLE Chrome  &  Monzilla FoxFire.  BUT... I cannot get it going on my laptop which is running
    Windows XP  32 bits  SP3   AMD Turion 64   Proceesor    2GB RAM   Hard DRive  80GB -  57  GB free    CA  ANTIVIRUS.  I do disable my antivirus
    when I download the FLASH program.
    I just CANNOT BELIEVE that ADOBE puts out this program, and cannot get a SOLUTION to all of OUR PROBLEMS.
    I see that THIS IS effecting  100's & 1000's of us.  EVERYONE uses FLASH.   PLS ADOBE HELP ME & US OUT !!!.

    that's embedded in the file of another, Adobe's server blows the whistle,
    and as you can see, you can't do that....

    If you have a backup of your dead laptop's data, copy the contents of its iTunes Library into the iTunes Library of your "different" laptop.
    Otherwise, you can take a look at tools like Senuti to transfer your media from your ipod to the "different" laptop. There are many other useful tools like Senuti; some work just as well and are even free.

    You can have two separate libraries, just do not put them into the same location on the computer. You could also create a new user on the laptop, you, and then you would start out with a blank iTunes library, then just add yours to that. It would also prevent you and your girlfriend from mixing content up unless you share an Apple ID.

    I purchased Lightroom and Photoshop in May 2012. I have since misplaced the CD and I now need to install both applications on a different MAC laptop.     Before you install Phooshop again, be sure to deactivate it on the first machine. You'll find the deactivate option under the help menu. Lightroom has no deactivation.
    What you will need is the serial numbers for each. If you registered the software with your Adobe ID you can log in to your account and find them there.
    As for downloading again, Adobe no longer offers trial versions of the software, which would have worked, as all the focus is on current releases of CC apps. I suggest you try and find someone who has discs and install from them but using your own serial numbers of course.
    As for how many times you can do this. As many as you like so long as each time you deactivate first.

    yes you can....but any files/data on the other drive will be gone.  also make sure that the drive you install is a SATA drive which is in your Macbook...
    make sure you have your original install disk if you plan on doing a clean install.
