I cannot hear any sound on my laptop DV6 1030 us even though all my icons show that l should

So, today just cannot hear a sound on it, all the icons are just as previous, they show l should, but no! I put the headphones in the sockets, nothing, when l put them in the mic socket, there l can hear just the noise that i insert something there. I can see the volume cursor going up down when l move it, but l don't hear anything... and nothing it's turned off.
 Can this be a virus?

The internal speakers started working after uninstalling the sound drivers and restarted the machine, after which the system reinstalled the High Definition Audio Device driver, which was hitherto being used for the Headset speakers.
Today, the external speakers (the ones used by the headset) stopped working. Both the internal and external speakers
have the same High Definition Audio Device driver. Both are showing "device is working properly", but when the headset is plugged into the two jacks (in and out), the sound does not come from the headset earpiece, but from the internal speakers (ie the loudspeakers).
Any solution for this ?
My wife's machine has been having a similar, though not identical problem, since the last couple of weeks. In her
case, when the headset is plugged in, there is no sound at all, neither from the headset speakers, nor from the internal speakers.
Just to eliminate the possibility of the headsets malfunctioning, I tried using another headset, but with the same
results as above.
All these audio problems started a couple of weeks ago, after a Windows overnight update, as detailed in my opening
post under this thread.

Did you already reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, try to set it up as new device, explained here:

    HI. =)
All you have to do is update your sound/audio driver. (especialy if you just got a BIOS update, if you haven't, just proceed)
first, make sure  nothin's attached to your laptop.
go to hp.com -> support & drivers -  drivers & software -  (put in your product name/number - you can find that at the bottom of your laptop) -  at the drop down, select widows 64 bit (mostly)  then hit next - at step 2, 'SELECT A DOWNLOAD', choose driver - audio - click the first blue link and hit save - after saving, your laptop will prompt you to run it. hit run.
then your laptop will reset, and it should produce sound.
    **your kudos will be appreciated.

  • I cannot hear any sound from my ipad

I cannot hear any sound in my ipad, no music no vedios and even the keys sound!!!! I need to know what is the solution???

    1. If you have no sound at all, even in the Music App, try rebooting the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
    2. Reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. No data will be lost but you will have to enter all of the device settings again.
    3. If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

    4. If you still have no sound at all - try cleaning the dock connector opening of the iPad with a soft brush and just a little bit of rubbing alcohol.

  • Cannot hear any sound from WMP, youtube, or any other videos

I use a Vista SP2 HP Pavilion dv6 laptop.  Yesterday suddenly, all sound died on me.  The previous day, I had downloaded flash videos from a website called www.auditchannel.tv (this is a website run by the Institute of Internal Auditors, a
global organisation), and was able to hear the sound.  I muted the speaker at that time.  Yesterday, I tried to listen to the same flash videos after unmuting the speaker, but could not hear any sound.  Tried playing videos on Youtube, other
videos that I had downloaded earlier, but even there no sound was audible.  Then tried playing my mp3 files on windows media player but got the error message saying "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional
    assistance, click Web Help."
I've tried everything listed on Microsoft Support sites.  This includes:
    i) going to Device manager and ensuring that all the sound devices are showing as working correctly, and all related drivers are uptodate
ii) downloading Microsoft Fixit exe files for AudioPlayback and WinMediaPlayer, running the exe files, which reinstalled WMP...
but the problem was not resolved !
Would appreciate your help to fix this issue.
One more point - Day before yesterday night, some automatic updates were downloaded by Windows Update overnight, and when I woke up my machine the following morning, I noticed that it had actually shut down and restarted.  But it seemed that the auto
update files had not been fully installed.  So, yesterday night, I ran the Windows Update manually, and installed all the pending updates fully.  Not sure if this sound problem could have been caused by this event - ie. partial installation, then
running Windows Update again ??  The auto updates were the following:
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows Vista
    Security Updates for Windows Vista...various
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - December 2013
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 for Windows Vista
ZTEMT Corporation - Bus Controllers and Ports - ZTE...various
Synaptics - Input - Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
    Definition Update for Windows Defender

  • Cannot hear any sound

My repo wirless sound system is installed correctly but I cannot hear sound in my headphone.

    Hi Myway1,
Technical Preview should work with the same devices and programs that work with Windows 8.1. Make sure you get an appropriate driver for your device.
Please check if you can see this device is installed in device manager.
You can give us the brand of your device, I would help to check if there are suitable driver for current OS.

  • Trying to connect a Belkin brand audio cable from my MacBook Pro to a Sony flatscreen TV. Cannot get any sound from the laptop out of the TV. What am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to connect a Belkin brand stereo audio cable from my MacBook Pro to a Sony flatscreen TV (Apple "genius" handed me the cable to purchase.)  I have tried all the ports in the back of the Sony, and tried the volume on both the cable and TV remotes. I cannot get sound out of the Sony from my MacBook Pro laptop. What am I doing wrong???

Downloaded your operating manual.  It appears that you need to connect the HDMI to HDMI 1 and the audio to the input socket just to the right of the VGA socket (i.e., between the VGA and the RF input connection).  The picture on page13 seems to be the clearest I could find:
Although it's not exactly clear I think they are talking about a standard 3.5 mm (1/8") stereo jack for the audio inpu as opposed to the more common RCA jacks used in the row just above that VGA input socket.
I haven't checked the manual as yet whether you need to set anything special with the controls other than input select.
Note, if that truly is a 3.5 mm stereo jack cables are very common.  In your case it would just be a cable with a 3.5 mm jack on each end.
    Update:
You will have to experiment with this but I think you will need to try pusing the input button to select either HDMI1 or PC (or Component?).  The manual is not clear on this (page 31).  Sometimes it just comes down to pushing buttons.

  • I cannot illuminate the keyboard, and cannot hear any sound - Any ideas please?

......I hear nothing, (except the start-up jingle when turning on the MacBook), I also have no backlit keyboard. The volume shows at maximum, but having said that, there is a little symbol showing a small white circle with a line struck though it just under the volume display when one of the F buttons are pressed. This symbol is showing when I try to turn up, turn down, or mute, (or un-mute), this whilst using the F9, F10, & F11. This symbol also is evident when trying to illuminate the keyboard up, or down, (F5 & F6). I have gone into 'System Preferences', but am unable to move any sliders, which incidentally are showing maximum volume, not muted either - it almost as if something has locked up the settings, (which are NOT currently locked though via the padlock system). The speaker symbol at the top of the screen is of a light grey in colour, (usually black if I remember correctly), and certainly is not showing the Mac being muted. I'm not 100% familiar with a 'Mac' having moved from a Windows machine not too long ago, so any info wold be very much appreciated. Incidentally, whether this has any bearing whatsoever, when I turned my Mac on yesterday, (16-5-11), the time had reset itself to 00:00, and date back to 1-1-2001 - again, should anyone know why this took place, then it would be nice to know as I've never had this occur before on either a Windows or Mac machine. Sound & lights were working fine yesterday even after I'd put the time & date correct. The operating system is 10.6.4 on my MacBook Pro.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Are there any parental controls on the iPad or iTunes?

  • Cannot hear any sound through my external speakers - help!

I'm running 10.6.4 on my imac 27". Can hear sound though the internal speakers, but even when I plug externals in and restart I can't see any option in the sound system preferences to let me hear through the external speakers. It's odd. Can anyone help?

    More information will help.
Is this a problem that just started for you, or have you never been able to plug in headphones or external speakers and have them work?
Are you sure you are plugging into the correct jack on the computer? On my slightly older iMac I sometimes reach around to the back and hit the wrong jack.
When I open "Sound" in System Preferences and hit the "Output" tab, I see "Internal Speakers" listed. Then when I plug in my headphones the "Internal Speakers" automatically changes to "Headphones."
Is this what you see on your computer?
    Good luck.

  • Hello everyone. i have iphone 4s. there is a problem with speakers. i cant hear any sound when i receive a call and even i cant talk on speaker phone or listen to songs but without speaker i can call n listen to the other person whom i am calling. ???

is anyone facing same problem please help.
    thanks

Kayla, check the grill that covers the microphone (bottom left next to charging port) and make certain there isn't any dirt, makeup, spilled soda clogging the grill causing it to fail. My sister had a similar issue with her earphone and while I was in the process of replacing it for the third time I decided to check the grill under a very bright light and it was totally clogged up causing her not to be able to hear her phone calls. Use a Q-Tip dipped in hot water and gently wipe the grill. Just barely moisten it, no need to go crazy with the water. Might as well clean the earphone and speaker on the bottom right too. Anyhow, that could be what your issue is and if so it's a really simple fix. If that doesn't help just replace the microphone. It'd cost maybe $5 and ten minutes of your time to do. Good luck, John

  • Why can I not hear any sound?

I just installed Audition through CC and cannot hear any sound.  I see the track and can see the levelmeters going nuts.  I can hear sound via Control Panel and Windows sounds butno sound is coming through my speakers.
    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Audition's transport is running (which it sounds as though it is if the playhead is moving and the meters are going), then you appear to have your sound device assigned to it correctly - but for whatever reason, the input on your sound device isn't turned up (or even on). But for more help, you'd have to provide more system details - specifically what OS, and are we talking internal sound device here?
