I cannot hear sound from either my speakers or my headphones

I left my laptop on my desk for a couple of hours and when i came back i couldnt hear anything with my headphones. I thought the headphones were the problem so I unplugged them but still couldnt hear anything. I treid going to system preferences>sound to see if it was on mute or anything but i couldnt find anything wron with it.

It sounds like you are unable to hear any audio from your Apple TV but the same HDMI cable to a computer works fine. If it has never worked with your Apple TV, use this article to help troubleshoot the issue:

I cannot hear sound from my computer without the use of a headphone

My Macbook Pro is just over a year old and I am having trouble with the sound and speaker system.
The problem arises when a headphone is plugged in I hear sound, but when they are removed I am not hearing anything and the volume button on the keyboard is inaccessible. There is a circle and a stroke across showing up for the controls.

Is there a red light in the audio output port? If so, the internal switch is stuck. Insert the headphone jack and press the volume key and withdraw the headphone jack. Any difference?

Try the following.
Download the Realtek Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.

When complete, shut down the notebook by holding down the left Shift key as you click on Shutdown to temporarily prevent a hybrid boot.
Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete. Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek Audio installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' ( or Speakers/HP ) once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

I assume your talking about a real instrument... if your going through an audio interface, also, adjust your (mixer knob) on the interface, it could be turned down... works for me.

Two suggestions:
1. Check iTunes volume (the slider left of the progress bar). It's separate from the system volume.

Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.

Having problem hearing sound from my hp notebook 625 pc

I cannot hear sound from my hp 625 notebook PC, i only hear sound when i connect a headset to it or an external speaker. But when i use the IDT control i downloaded, the sound only comes for a period of time when i click on the test speaker.

I uninstal IDT audio driver after computer take a restart ... and when was on take automaticly the hd audio driver from microsoft ... a audio device and it s work very good . So give to heel IDT hd audio driver !

Yes, you can. You can configure the Side Switch (above the volume button) either as Mute switch or Rotation lock.
Settings > General > Use Side Switch to: choose what you like the Side Switch to function as.

Try the following.
First, download the Flash uninstall utility on the link below and save it to your Desktop.
Flash Player Uninstaller.
When the download has completed, close all browser windows and run the uninstaller. After this has completed, restart the notebook.
Next, download and install Firefox and then using Firefox, download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash.
Close all browser windows before running the Flash installer.
Launch Firefox and see if Youtube videos etc play Ok - if they do, close Firefox, open IE and click on the same Adobe Flash link above to get a prompt to install the ActiveX component. When done, restart IE.

It sounds like you have disconnected the digital audio speakers from your MacBook Pro but all you have available in your audio settings. Take a look at this info from the following article named:

If the Internal Speakers option does not appear in the Output tab and your computer is not a Mac Pro, check that Digital Out is present as in the image below:
Confirm again that all external audio devices and cables have been removed.
Check to see if a red light is lit in the line-out port. If so, your Apple computer may need service.
If you do not see a red light, proceed to step 5.
If the issues persist, contact Apple support for further troubleshooting assistance.

1. Right click speaker icon (right hand corner)
2. Select Playback devices
3. Right click Speakers
4. Enable it and set as Default

Try restoring from backup. Next would be a restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
