I cannot hear sound from my computer without the use of a headphone

My Macbook Pro is just over a year old and I am having trouble with the sound and speaker system.
The problem arises when a headphone is plugged in I hear sound, but when they are removed I am not hearing anything and the volume button on the keyboard is inaccessible. There is a circle and a stroke across showing up for the controls.

Is there a red light in the audio output port? If so, the internal switch is stuck. Insert the headphone jack and press the volume key and withdraw the headphone jack. Any difference?

I left my laptop on my desk for a couple of hours and when i came back i couldnt hear anything with my headphones. I thought the headphones were the problem so I unplugged them but still couldnt hear anything. I treid going to system preferences>sound to see if it was on mute or anything but i couldnt find anything wron with it.

Try the following.
Download the Realtek Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.

When complete, shut down the notebook by holding down the left Shift key as you click on Shutdown to temporarily prevent a hybrid boot.
Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete. Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek Audio installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' ( or Speakers/HP ) once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

I assume your talking about a real instrument... if your going through an audio interface, also, adjust your (mixer knob) on the interface, it could be turned down... works for me.

Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.

Having problem hearing sound from my hp notebook 625 pc

I cannot hear sound from my hp 625 notebook PC, i only hear sound when i connect a headset to it or an external speaker. But when i use the IDT control i downloaded, the sound only comes for a period of time when i click on the test speaker.

i have the same problem like you !! pfff tooo many headec ... pfff ... i resolve the problem like this in the end of time after much days . I uninstal IDT audio driver after computer take a restart ... and when was on take automaticly the hd audio driver from microsoft ... a audio device and it s work very good . So give to heel IDT hd audio driver !

Yes, you can. You can configure the Side Switch (above the volume button) either as Mute switch or Rotation lock.
Settings > General > Use Side Switch to: choose what you like the Side Switch to function as.

Do you have any unknown devices in Device Manager with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark?
Are the Bootcamp drivers installed?

I cannot download photos from my apple iphone 4. I rang apple who took me through some instructions and talked me through to what to do. We tried both a laptop pc (windows 7) and an apple macbook pro and tried two different cables.
Cannot seem to download any photos at all, both laptop do not seem to recognise the device.
Apple told me to email the photos, this is impracticle as there is such a large quantity.
My issue is still not resolved.

1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?
