I cannot hear sound through my iMac Headphone port, this is a very new computer. I can hear sound through the usb port of the device. How can this be fixed? Headphones are selected as an Output device.
Please help in any way possible, it is becoming quite a concern as it was just working a matter of hours ago.

usb does not carry audio at all it's a serial digital bus
things one connect to usb which play audio act the role of being usb audio cards only 1 audio card can be active at the time so if you connect an usb audio card the internal audio card is muted
this cause your headset to be muted
disconnect the usb audio card and you will be able to use your headset
if you wish to use a headset an an usb audio card at the same time the headset needs to be connected to the usb audio card

  • How does one update Flash? I currently cannot watch videos on You Tube, it says I need to upgrade, I have no problem doing this on a PC.

How does one update Flash? I currently cannot watch videos on You Tube, it says I need to upgrade, I have no problem doing this on a PC.

If you're not using chrome you can just go to adobe's website (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/) and download the newest flash player.  You run the .dmg and then open the application, which updates flash.  With the latest version of flash there should be a preference pane within system preferences to allow you to change settings and check for updates.

  • I cannot view videos on You Tube. I get "blocked plug-in" when I try. Any solution?

On my Mac OS X (10.6.8) I cannot view videos on You Tube . When I try I get the message "Blocked Plug-in" . I would appreciate any help.

You may need to uninstall all previous versions of Adobe Flash Player, first, then reinstall the latest version to your Mac

Then, reinstall the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.

  • I suddenly have no sound with you tube but I have sound on IE

I have no sound with you tube videos. I've updated adobe flash and still no sound. I do, however, have sound with IE.

Whoa, I found the answer by clicking on one of the questions in the "More Like This" box to the right.  I do  wonder how to find that box before posting my dumb question.  The answer turned out to be checking the youtube volume control.  I turned that up and it solved the problem for Comast as well.

  • No sound from you tube clip

I installed Lion and no longer get sound from You Tube. Other media works just fine.
    Any ideas?

Since most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin try uninstalling then reinstalling the plugin >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
If that doesn't help, try deleting Flash cookies > Flush.app – Flash Cookie Removal Tool For OS X | MacHacks.TV

  • Cannot hear sound from my apple tv but computer has audio

I Cannot hear audio on Apple TV/HDTV but audio is fine on computer when I mirror from my. Ma

    Hey there JaniceBud,
It sounds like you are unable to hear any audio from your Apple TV but the same HDMI cable to a computer works fine. If it has never worked with your Apple TV, use this article to help troubleshoot the issue:

If it worked at first, but doesn't anymore use this article first, then the above if needed:

  • Cannot hear sound in calls

Something happened to my phone. There is no sound on either side when a call is in progress. If i attach head phones, i can hear their sound but they still cannot hear my sound. Has been happening from past couple of days. The phone did not fall down. Increasing ringer volume shows that volume is being increased for headphones even when headphones are not attached. Same with call volume. Any help is appreciated.

I just got on the phone with tech support. It was found that my phone was thinking that the head phone is still plugged in. This is because of dirt stuck in the head phone slot. The support person asked me to rapidly insert and remove the head phone jack to dislodge the dirt and it worked. Check if this works for you. If you increase the volume on your phone, it shows 'ringer' and below it '(headphones)'. This indicates that it thinks the headphones are still on.

  • No sound watching you tube videos

I now have lion on my iMac. I cannot get sound while watching you tube videos. An x appears over the sound icon. How can I get the sound to come on.
    Thanks!

You should re-post this Topic in the appropriate Forum for your hardware and OS version.  This Forum is designated for the PowerPC processor-based iMacs - none of which can run Lion.  If you choose the Intel-based iMac Forum or the Lion Forum, you will likely get help from other users who may have run into the identical problem with the same setup.

  • Not getting sound on you tube using Windows 7

Tried to watch a video on You Tube and couldn't get sound.  Am not good technically with the behind the scenes stuff on computers, better at everyday stuff.

Hey guys. I already solved this problem, this is how I did it:
First make sure you have the latest version of flash player installed, or just to go the home page and download it. Also make sure you have the latest version of google chrome.
Then, in google chrome type chrome://plugins/ and you will see a list of plugins. In the right area of the screen you will see "+ Details". Click on the + and the list will expand, search for the flash plugins. If you have more than one flash plugin, just enable one version and disable the other ones. Now go to youtube and see if you have sound. If not, go back to the chrome plugins and enable another one and disable the others. Remember, just enable ONE version.
I had two versions. So I disabled the 11.5.31.2 version and enable this one: 11,5,502,110, and it works.
    Good luck.

  • Cannot view videos in you tube or The Daily Show

I cannot view any videos with you tube. Neither can I view the videos on the Daily Show (which I get using the Modify Headers plug in) The all worked marvellously only a few days ago. I checked the Java is up to date, I have cleared the cache, restarted and tried again. I can see the videos on googlechrome, I can see the page but the video gets "there was an error, try again later" (you tube) the Daily show just does not finish loading the video part of the screen - but I get the websites. This is recent. what happened? how do I get it back?

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
This may be caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update.
    See:

If you can't get Flash 11.3 to work and need to revert to Flash 11.2 then you can download the Flash 11.2 player via this direct link:

  • Cannot hear sound after turning off scheduled Do Not Disturb

I am not positive this is the root cause of the problem.  I am using the Scheduled Do Not Disturb feature, allow calls if repeated, always (not just when locked).
I do not use the mute slide button on the phone itself because my Lifeproof case will not work the switch.
Plus I am always forgetting to un-mute, so DND is a great feature.
I cannot hear the "ring" when I am calling someone.  They answer my call and I cannot hear them speaking.
I turn the phone off and turn it back on and problem is resolved (shades of Android!!)
    Thanks.
PS  I was hoping 1.8.1 would fix it.  It did not.

You are resetting the software by turning the phone off/on. There must be a software issue, and that is what the support document I supplied to you addresses. User troubleshooting steps are restart (which you have done), reset, restore from backup, restore as new. You continue down the line until the problem is cleared up. If these steps do not correct it, then you make an appointment at the Genius Bar at the nearest Apple store and have the hardware looked at for possible problems.
