I cannot hear telephone calls unless speaker is on

I just replaced the glass on my iphone as it had smashed but as soon as I got the phone back I was not able to hear telephone calls (incoming or outgoing) unless I put the speaker on....and the volume is still pretty low even though the volume settings are high. May be a coincidence but Ive never had that problem before.

I am having the exact same problem starting today. I took your advice about inserting the headphone jack and the thing about the speakers, no luck. I reset all the settings, turned it off/on, still doesn't work. If I plug the accessory jack into it, I can hear through my car's speakers, but I can't hear anything from the phone unless it's turned on speakerphone. Frustrating!
Any other advice from anyone?

Hi, I had the same problem until this morning when I was advised by the technician at the Apple store to plug the phone into my computer, thus opening itunes, which will back up my phone settings. Then click on my phone so that I get the option of "check for updates" or "restore". Click on restore, which removes the software from the iphone, and then reinstalls it. Sync all your apps, and tunes back and then try it. It worked for me so good luck.

I couldn't hear through earpiece unless it's on speaker. This problem occured 3 days ago.
People couldn't hear me during a phonecall, and I could't hear them either.
I already checked everything at my settings, everything is set at where suppose to be.
I also tried to restart my phone, but still nothing changed.
I got my iPhone 4s just 2 months ago (basically it's a new phone), any one has any advice to fix this issue?

Clear the receiver
The iPhone receiver won't work properly if it's blocked or dirty. Here's where the receiver is:
Follow these steps, testing after each:
- Make sure nothing is blocking the receiver, such as a case or film.
If you have a new iPhone, remove the plastic film on the front and back of the device.
- Check the receiver opening to see if it's blocked or dirty. If necessary, clean the receiver opening with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush.
- While you're on a call, turn on speakerphone. If you still can't hear, then your network or reception could be the issue. Try calling again later or from a different location.
Restart and update
1. Restart your iPhone and test again.

Unable to be heard during phone call unless speaker was on.

Made a phone call and was unable to hear or be heard unless speaker was on. Ring tones, alerts, other sounds were not heard. Bluetooth worked fine. If ear phones were plugged in you cold hear music that was playing. Restarted phone with no results. Problem self corrected itself with no action from me.

I have the same problem but i have iphone 3G 2008, it happens randomly and goes back to normal.

Hi everyone! I cannot hear the callar in my Iphone 3G 8GB ... I put it to the mobile phone shop to repair... but even they installed the new little voice speaker (in the top of the iphone)... the iphone still does not have any voice from the caller... if I turn the speaker on... it does have voice and it is very loud and clear...
Anyone knows what is wrong with my iphone? I went to a shop in Berlin before and they fixed it right away... but in the mobile phone shop in liverpool... they cannot fix it...

Pretty much. Except that Apple will replace it for a fixed fee that is far less than the cost of a new phone. In the US the replacement cost for an iPhone 4 is $149. It is comparable in the UK. Unless you can prove that the fault was present at the time of purchase. A switch wearing out would probably be considered normal wear and tear, not a "fault".

I have a Driod X and I am unable to hear any of my incoming or outgoing calls. I have tried calling several people and cannot hear anything. All my alerts work......ringtones, vibrate, alarms, etc.... I have tried putting the call on speakerphone and I am still unable to hear anything.

Being able to hear the other party on your phone is pretty important! I'm sorry you're having this issue in the first place. I will be more than happy to provide some suggestions.
First, I would recommend removing and resinserting the battery for 10 seconds while the phone is on. Power it back on and dial *228-call and choose option 1.
If the issue persists I would put your phone in Safe Mode:

This will help determine if it's a 3rd Party application causing the issue. Test while in safe mode and if it still happens I would have to recommend a Hard Reset:

Cannot hear incoming calls on iPhone

I have ab iPhone 4S which I purchased in July 2012. I had a problem last month whereby I couldn't hear incoming calls. I purchased the phone through my network provider 3 and on the 29 October they replaced the SIM card. It has worked up till now but the same problem has occurred. Can anyone help me please?

Today, my speaker stopped working for phone calls. I can hear my phone ring, I can listen to music and can hear normal text/email sounds. But when I go to answer a call or make a call, it is just dead silence. I can use headphones to hear though. My iPhone 4 is 1.5 years old and has not given me any real problems before. My apple care has run out and I would love a simple fix that won't cost me $100. I have not used speakers and I spend about 30 minues on the phone looking for a solution. I have restart my phone 5+ times and have restored my phone to a previous backup. Thanks.
