  • Hi All. I reluctantly upgraded to IOS 7 last night and now cannot access my home WIFI, all other non Apple devices are fine. I have reset, it will not allow me to 'forget this network', doesnt show the option. I have turned on and off

Hi All, I reluctantly upgraded to IOS 7.1.1 on my IPAD last night , reluctant as every upgrade which promises fixes which dont impact me causes problems that do , which I fix via this community. Today I can no longer access my WIFI at home, my non Apple devices all work fine.I have tried all the online suggestions I can find for this, reset facgtory settings, it will not allow me to 'forget this network', I try to reconnect and it asks for my password which I know is correct and it says it cannot access my network. It can access an unsecured one I believe, but that is not ideal. Any fresh suggestions would be really welcome, please. Many thanks

Thanks so much for your reply, yes I did and that has not worked either . A friend has suggested re installing upgrade, so may try that .

  • First off, i think it's sad that i have to use my non apple device to post this question... Why has my iPad become absolutely useless after updating to iOS 8.1? I am unable to use my mini because it crashes, slow performance, major battery drain.

Restore iPad to Factory Default; do not restore from backup. It may be the cause of the problem.

  • Am I correct in assuming that Messages cannot communicate with non-Apple devices?

Am I correct in assuming that Messages cannot communicate with non-Apple devices from laptops and or desktop apple devices?  From iPhone there seems to be no barriers to this using Messages.

I wonder if Mt. Lion will include texting to "other" devices.  For there to be true continuity across platforms this needs to happen.
Right now I am having an interesting thing happen - even messaging with another Mac User I am getting the red ! on all my messages sent from my mac.  Yet he is gitting them.  I am assuming this is some kind of beta thing.

  • HT203977 My new IPad Air 2 will not let me send text messages to non Apple devices.  What can I do to fix this problem?

I have a brand new IPad Air 2.  My operating system is 8.2.  I am not able to send iMessages (texts) to non Apple devices.  When I attempt to, the name is in red not green.  What can I do to fix this?

An iPad is not capable of natively sending an SMS or MMS messages.  Those services require a cellular voice channel connection, and a data tablet is only capable of a cellular data channel connection, not a voice channel connection.
If you have an iPhone, under the settings on the iPhone you can enable forwarding with your iPad - where the iPhone actually sends and receives the SMS texts and shares them with your iPad.
Otherwise, you will need to use an app and internet service like the telegram messaging app. Or you can send emails to the persons cell phone via their carriers texting gateway (e.g. [email protected] if they use AT&T in the USA).
iMessages between iOS apps are separate from SMS texts as iMessages use Apples internet service and equipment. But the SMS protocol crams a short text message into the residual bandwidth of a cellular phones voice channel and cannot be sent over a cellular data connection.

  • I can't find my previous ??? concerning if it is possible to load songs from a "non-apple" device into iTunes

I can't fnd the question I asked in here roughly an hour ago - concerning if I can load songs from a "non-apple" device. I have a SanDisk that I'd like to load my songs into iTunes - is this possible?

    A.C.,
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?

  • Best way to sync contacts and calendars to non apple devices

Hi. I need to be ale to share my calendars and contacts so I can access them on non apple devices.
I've tried using google but find the syncing of contacts from osx address book to be really unreliable. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to do it?

If you want a more open system use Google instead of iCloud, but iCloud is supported on OSX, IOS, Windows, and with the purchase of a few apps can be made to work (although not with all features) on Android systems.
I have no idea if it will work on a Windows phone.

  • Airport extreme not connecting to non-apple devices

Hi, I just installed a airporte extreme to serve as my home router (normal home network stuff).  My set-up is a cable modem to the extreme to an iMac.  The internet connection works, the wifi also works since I have a MacPro that works fine.  The issue is I can't get non-apple devices to read the wifi signal.  I have a sonos sound system and a Canon wifi printer that both worked fine with the old router (linksys), but with the extreme installed I can't get the signals to be recognized.  This seems like an airport set-up issue, any advice on what to look for and check?
My iMac is new and on Mountain Lion; my MacPro is a year old and on 10.7.4

I figured it out so perhaps I can help out the next person.  I am a novice to technical set-ups so this may second nature to some of you.  Basically, what I learned is that the wifi devices that I was trying to set-up all have a internal "memory" and still tries to communicate with previous routers that it was connected to.  Therefore, you have to get the devices to forget by powering them down for sufficient time, and take out batteries, so that it is more like a fresh set-up.  All is fine now.

  • How can I connect Bluetooth in iPad retina with non apple devices ?

How can I connect Bluetooth in iPad retina with non apple devices ?

    What devices?
The iPad can only pair with earphones, speakers and keyboards.
It cannot directly pair with other phones or computers for file transfer or other operations.
Most Bluetooth devices will have a user guide to connect them to other devices. follow that to start the process.
From the iPad side, its just a matter of going inot Settings->BlueTooth turning it on, and searching for the device to pair.

  • Do apple devices take priority (in bandwidth) over non-Apple devices?

When I use even 1 of my Apple devices at home, my housemate's PC slows down or even freezes. When I use a PC laptop, it also slows down or freezes, until I turn off all of my Apple devices.  (I have an iMac, iPad, iPhone and iPod.)
My housemate says she heard that Apple devices "hog" the bandwidth, i.e., take priority over non-Apple devices.  I didn't want to believe this, but after doing some experiments with shutting my devices off and on, while using a PC, it kinda looks like she is right.
    My questions:
    1) Is it true that Apple devices take priority over non-Apple devices when it comes to using bandwidth?
    2) Is there anything i can do to change this?  I like my housemate, and I don't want her to leave.  (Also, I appreciate the rental income.)  Also, I like my Apple devices.
    3) Do you know if switching Internet service providers would help?  (We have Comcast.)

    1) Is it true that Apple devices take priority over non-Apple devices when it comes to using bandwidth?
It is often reported.. but this kind of thing has been going on since wireless came along.. partly due to how many different manufacturers we have of wireless gear.. and the fact they all make stuff according to the code IEEE produce (cough, gollum, gollum!!) with their own little gidgets on side.
Apple systems are propriety.. they are designed to work with apple products.. and maybe windows.. as long as they don't use intel wireless cards or realtek or some others.. and the drivers are compatible.. and the moon is full and you hold your tongue on the left side of your cheek.
    2) Is there anything i can do to change this?  I like my housemate, and I don't want her to leave.  (Also, I appreciate the rental income.)  Also, I like my Apple devices.
Yes, it is very simple.. buy a $30 TP-Link wireless N-Lite router and use it as an AP plugged into your apple router.
    3) Do you know if switching Internet service providers would help?  (We have Comcast.)
Has nothing to do with ISP.. but if you already have a wireless router gateway from your ISP use the wireless on that for your housemate.

  • IPhone 5 Wifi Hotspot - Issue with Non Apple Devices

    Hi !
I have iPhone 5 and a Working LTE connection , My Carrier officially supports data tethering. Previously i could turn on Personal Hotspot and use internet in my card with other Non-Apple Devices such as GPS , Samsung devices etc.
But recently i noticed after update to 7.1.2 . I can turn on Hotspot
1-  Apple Devices can connect to Hotspot such as Mac Book Pro , IPhone and iPad.
2- Windows Laptop can use Internet Using USB Cable connected with iPhone but can not connect through Wifi.
3- All other Non-Apple Devices ( such as Lumia 1520 , Samsung Galaxy S5 ) Can not Connect to Wifi Hotsopt.
Is there any specific restriction or policy which is preventing this.
I have tried , Reset All Settings , Reset Network Settings. but it does not work.

    Hi dumbcode,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
You sound very familiar with Personal Hotspot and have already done some good troubleshooting. In your situation I suggest going through the Wi-Fi trouble shooting section of the attached article.

  • How can I transfer music from my iphone to other non apple devices

How can I transfer music from my iphone to other non apple devices ?

If this is music purchased through the iTunes Music Store, you would need to transfer the music to your computer using iTunes then transfer to the non-apple device according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  • The one non-Apple device I want to hold on to is my Blackberry.  Apologies - put it down to age.  is it possible for me to sync Calendars?  [what IS an Ical?]  Contacts and Notes etc syncs easily - only Calendar problem. i do hv a Google calendar/account.

New to Mac (at 60+ years] and enjoying it.   But one non-Apple device want to hold on to is Blackberry 9900.   I can sync contacts, tasks - but NOT Calender.   I get message telling me to set up an iCal.    I have Google Calendar and happy to use that as 'hub' as it were, if that does job.  Syncing my Air and smartphone is important - help please?

Another weird thing related to above question....when I first plugged in the itouch, it asked if I wanted to update the software and I did.  Then it went into restore.  Then the itouch itself went to a grey screen and asked me questions such as did I want to back up to icloud, use find my itouch, etc. plus it wanted my Apple sign in.  I did all that.  Once the itouch came on, I noticed that my daughter's music and photos were gone.  So that was all good.  But then at some point later when I was trying to figure out how to sync, I noticed another notice from Apple on my computer asking if I wanted to update.  I assumed that was for my computer not the itouch this time.  I did that.  Then the itouch was back to the grey tones and the same sign in questions.  Now my daughter's photos are back on it but not her music.  When I click Sync, nothing happens as far as loading the music.  Could this be that my music library is too big for the memory?  Wouldn't it tell me that rather than just not do it?  As you can see, I am very confused.

Thanks for the suggestion, Chris.  I actually did not resolve the issue which is why i did not post an answer.
it turns out that my iphone seems to default to an incorrect User ID (it defaults to an @me account, which is not something that i have ever used).
even when i change the User ID in my settings for the iTunes store, it still appears when i attempt to get updates for my existing apps.  however, it does seem to use the correct ID when i attempt to purchase new apps.
If someone actually had an answer to correct this, i would love to update my existing apps.
    Thank you.
