I cannot import music into itunes

I use the request "add folder to itunes" but the files do not appear in my library. Neither does the request "add files to itunes". I am using windows and have the newest available version of Itunes. What can I do to successfully import multiple folders into itunes?

You don't import files into the iTunes Media Folder. You import into iTunes. Post your iTunes issues in the iTunes forum:

Possibly. Media Go supports a variety of music formats, some of which can be imported in to iTunes and then synced on to an iPhone, however some of its formats cannot be imported in to iTunes.
See http://mediago.sony.com/enu/supported-file-formats/ for a list of formats supported by Media Go. iTunes for Windows supports MP3, AAC, WAV, and can import and convert WMA files as well. However iTunes does not support ATRAC, or FLAC.
Furthermore, if some of your music has been bought from an Internet music store it might be procted by DRM. If so it cannot be imported in to iTunes.
To do the importing you would either drag the music files in to iTunes, or tell iTunes to open them. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1347

  • Cannot import CDs into iTunes, disc is corrupted and unreadable error.

Cannot import CDs into iTunes, keep getting disc is corrupted and unreadable error. Advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the reply!
I downloaded the program and ran it, got to the point where it says I have errors that need to be fixed... but it appears I have to pay for the rest of the program to actually repair these errors. Is this incorrect?
If I do have to pay, then I'd like to look for an alternative... the program is $40; of course, that's cheaper than buying a new iPod, but I want to avoid that too.

  • Cannot get Music into Itunes Library

Stumped on this one, need help. Using a PC, brought in music from external hard drive to my own. Followed posted web instructions to add folder to library. Result is all new music shows up in i tunes music folder, but not on I tunes library. Without actually playing each song individually, (physically double clicking them from I tunes music folder), how do I now get almost 30 Gig of music to show in my I tunes library. Current library shows 27 gig, should be 57 gig with new music.
    PC   Windows XP

I too can't get music into itunes. Running XP on a Dell box-of-some-kind. Installed itunes, fine. It imported most of my existing music on start-up just fine; most of the music is on two external hard drives. My music library was too big for the 80gb ipod, so I set to manual sync. It found the ipod. So far so good.
Some of the music wasn't in the itunes library after the initial install. When I went to put it there manually, nothing happened. Tried drag and drop on the library music icon. Tried "add file". Tried "import". Tried deleting the file on the itunes library, the hard drive and the ipod, and re-ripping it in windows media player (mp3 format), then tried steps above again. Nada. Rebooted, tried same steps again. Zip. It's not like these were just some folders that were missed; these are songs missing from albums, where the other songs on the album imported and these ones didn't. I even tried deleting the entire albums, re-ripping them, and re-importing them; now none of the songs in those albums will show up. I read that itunes won't copy duplicate files and won't give feedback, and I tried the posted work-around with the equivalent of the option key. Still no joy. (all the music file formats are mp3)
All this music is purchased and ripped from cd's, or is my own recorded stuff. Nothing pirated. I can uninstall and reinstall itunes, but will that be likely to resolve my problem? Running itunes 7.
Also can't import movies or anything else. Checked the help on itunes, and found nothing there. Does itunes simply have a limit to how much content it will allow in its libraries? Anybody know of a book on itunes 7 that has good trouble-shooting tips?

  • Cannot load music into iTunes

I am having a problem loading some of my music into iTunes. I choose the folder (or even just the file) and have it load. It shows the bar analyzing files and it goes through all of the files, but then nothing happens and the music is not loaded or only a couple songs off the album are loaded. I have had thees same albums loaded on iTunes before and nothing has changed with my system or the file format since then. I had to delete them off of iTunes and try to re-add them because I did something with the id tags that messed up the info. The file format is mp3 and the files are perfectly normal (I can play them on other media players). Anyone know what is up?

  • Cannot import music into my itunes account

i get the following message whenever i try to import music, which i have purchased, into iTunes "you do not have enough access privileges"
I am the administrator, i went to iTunes info, selected my self, gave myself read and write privileges and made myself owner of the account.  Why can't i import?

It's pretty much as simple as selecting all, then a drag and drop into your iTunes library:

  • Cannot Import MP3s into iTunes 9

I have a server in my house where I keep all my music. (WHS since Apple doesn't currently offer anything of this nature.) I tried to drag a standard MP3 file from my server over Samba to iTunes 9 and it just fails silently. iTunes doesn't freeze or anything. It just doesn't addd the song. We have two identical MacBooks that are both exhibiting the same problem.
    The song doesn't import after...
    - restarting iTunes.
    - restarting the computer.
    - updating to OS 10.6.1.
    - dragging it to my local computer, then dragging it to iTunes.
    - altering permissions on the file to 777.
    - using the File | Add to Library method to import.
The song plays just fine in Quicktime.
The song played fine in iTunes 8 and imported fine in iTunes 8.
Any clue what is going on here or how to get information about the problem out of iTunes?

It must be something to do with some of the files, because I was able to import a different CD from the same server. I am still looking for a way to get a reason out of iTunes as to why it won't import the file.
You will not get a reason out of iTunes, since it is designed to "error silently" when you try to add a file that it finds incompatible.
If the MP3s play fine in other players but not in iTunes, then you have met the problem of iTunes being strict/finicky/incompetent (pick your own interpretation) about slight variations in MP3 formats. The problem can usually be corrected by treating the files with a 3rd party tag clean-up program such as MP3 Validator.

  • HT1567 cannot import cd into iTunes using Windows Vista

I have tried everything and am unable to import an MP3 audio CD into iTunes using Windows Vista. I am able to import regular audio CDs. Any suggestions?

    Hello,
I would first suggest recreating your iTunes library file:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
If that doesn't resolve it, try pulling your iTunes preferences:
Quit iTunes if it is running.
    Navigate to /User/Library/Preferences/
    Drag com.apple.itunes.plist to the trash
    Restart the Mac
    Launch iTunes again

  • I cannot import music into my iTunes or import cps, getting error (-50). HELP!! been dealing with this for 2 days

I am going crazy. Got a new 2tb time capsule and have moved all my music to it and thought I was finally successful (though I have somehow lost some songs and recovered some...though some still cut off right at the end??) but now my biggest issue is itunes will not allow me to import any music, cd or downloaded files. I get the message when importing a cd "error occured while importing the file "song name" An unknown error occured (-50). I get the same error when trying to add downloaded music files also. I am really getting frustrated, itunes did not use to be so difficult to maintain. If we figure this out maybe someone can also help figure out why some songs are cutting off. I  have researched this for a couple of days and unfortunatley am not finding much help. Thanks!!

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • Difficulties Importing Music into ITunes

    Hi,
I just bought a new 30G iPod about two weeks ago, and I've only been experiencing trouble with iTunes. Most of the cds I import into my library take forever to download, and once the songs finally download, the sound is all staticy and you cannot understand anything. I looked all over the Apple website to figure out what was wrong with it, and I just do not know what to do. If someone could explain to me what is going on and how I can fix it, it would be greatly appreciated.

try checking your importing settings, and in order to speed up the importing make sure you deselect the option to hear the music as it is imported.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do you re-import music into itunes from computer

I just bought a new laptop and have successfully moved all of my music... 10 gigs onto my new computer. I had a problem in the middle of transferring my music and only a fourth transferred before I installed itunes. I finally finished moving the rest of the music but cant get itunes to import by pointing to the main itunes music folder. when I choose to import.. it makes me go all the way to a song folder with individual music files before it allows me to impoert. Is there any way for itunes to SEARCH for new files???
Seems like such a simple thing to do but it isnt so far.
I am beginning to hate itunes. If it were not for the $300 in downloaded itunes purchased music, I would change to Windows media player.
    Can anyone please help?
I have already uninstalled itunes and reinstalled... didnt help. even my playlist I had created were still there.

another note... Itunes imported all of the first songs.. about 4 gigs into the new library. This was before I realized that all of the music did not move over to the new computer. I had A - H or something like that moved. Is there any way to make itunes search for new music?

  • Please help me.  I cannot import videos into itunes library

I have read the manual's entries on doing this and nothing seems to be working. It won't let me import my own videos into the itunes library for me to convert to a file recognized by ipod. I have a 5th generation ipod. I am doing everything it tells me to do and still nothing. I have called technical support and they won't help me because I didn't purchase the videos through itunes. I have tried to click and drag the file and it won't let me do it even though the manual says that's what to do. when I look into the movies tab it is blank. When I put a dvd in my drive to copy to itunes library it doesn't even show up. I am going crazy and am about to return this if I can't get this figured out.

See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • Can't import music into itunes from a cd

I keep getting an error that the disc is full and i should delete files to make more room. It also recommends that I empty my trash. How can I expand the size of the file so I can import more music. thanks dan

    =Troubleshooting CD ripping issues=
The easiest thing to check is if it is just this CD.  Try another one.  If others work, then it is likely the CD.
Try an alternative ripper such as XLD or Max.  Even though you may not want that as the long-term solution it will at least indicate whether the problem is with iTunes or something else.
If other CDs and rippers do not work, it could be the drive itself, or the part of the computer running the hardware. For the latter some have found a SMC reset to work.

If you think it is the drive, you can try a cleaning disc (about $10 from a computer store or media store) to get rid of dust.  I haven't had much success with these, though usually I am running some older machine on which I can expect a drive to die after 5 years of use.

  • Importing music into iTunes is taking up a lot of space on both my hard drive and iPod.

Is there a way to make the files smaller?

It is possible that Windows wasn't able to calculate the correct size and decided to show some random (?) number instead.<br />
Such issues have been reported in the past.
You can check these locations to be sure as you may have multiple files in the Firefox Profile Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
You can find the location of the cache on the about:cache page.<br />
You can open about: pages via the location bar like you open a website.
