I cannot install any add on. Download error -228

When I try to install an Add-On, I get the following message:
Firefox could not install the file at
because: Download error
-228
This happens with ANY Add-On download. Theme or Add-On.

See if this works. Try downloading the .xpi file for the add-on, to do that right-click on the installation link and choose "Save link as". Then in the Firefox menus choose "File > Open File" and open the .xpi file that you downloaded. That should install the add-on.

  • Cannot install any add-on in Firefox v4.0

What would cause an extension like NoScript to download fine in Firefox version 4.0 but then give a tiny green start of a progress bar on the installation and never continue? I even had multiple instances of extensions trying to install. No progress is ever made, and a restart shows no extension was installed. Duplicated issue on 2 WinXP Pro installations. Ended up doing a complete uninstall of Firefox (including all preferences/settings) and that resolved issue. What in the user settings would cause all installs to "hang"?

  • PS CC 2014 : cannot install any add-on

    Hi,
I have installed the latest version of everything. I launched the add-on browser from PS CC 2014 and acquired 2 add-ons : Photoshop CC Features and Photoshop Blending Modes. The CC Desktop application is running, I have signed in and synchronization is ON. Photoshop CC 2014 is not running. When I go to "View my add-ons" after acquiring both add-ons, I can only see Photoshop CC Features (1st bug). On the right, I have the Remove button which seems to imply that this add-on has been installed.
If I launch PS CC 2014 and go to Window | Extensions, the menu is grayed out (2nd bug - no extension installed). If I open Adobe Extension manager CC, there's no extension registered under Photoshop CC 2014 (3rd bug).
Same problem with any other add-on I may try to install.
It seems that the CC desktop app is not synchronizing anything. When I go to the Files tab in Creative Cloud and click on Open Folder, it is empty. Is there any way to force synchronization?
What's the difference between "acquired" and "installed" ?
Has this thing ever been tested ?
    Thanks in advance.

Tried again and this time I got the following error:
    code -411
    Compatible CC app not found.
Solution: Install a compatible Adobe application before installing Add-ons.
Well, Photoshop CC 2014 not a compatible CC app ? I'm beginning to suspect that version 2014 has broken much more extensions than I first thought.

Thank God, everything is fixed now:
First, I deleted all these files, then i follows the following procedure
    1. For libgexiv2 file i upgraded 'xorg-server, xorg-xinit, xorg-utils, xorg-server-utils' from pacman
    # pacman -S xorg-server xorg-xinit xorg-utils xorg-server-utils
    2. For libraw file i upgraded 'libraw' from pacman
    # pacman -S libraw
There will be some conflicting files
After deleting some conflicting files it solves the problem and restore all the 'lib' file.

  • When updating add-ons I frequently get Download error -228 for all updates. Trying again later, they all update successfully.

When Firefox starts up it checks for add-on updates. Frequently I get "Firefox could not install the file at http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/addons/10868/forefox_sync-1.6.3-sm+fb+fx.xpi because Download error -228"
This one is for Firefox Sync; I get equivalent for any others for which updates were found.
I find all updates will apply, or none. It's never some do and some don't.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately this doesn't help because without changing any setting the update will eventually install be it a day or three later.
If updates were disabled, then they would remain disabled and no updates would ever install (& I'd expect a more relevant worded message), which is not the case.
I would expect Firefox to find updates to extensions only if they were compatible, or again tell me "not compatible" rather than a nondescript "download error" message.
I have Firefox auto-updating so am on the latest release (not beta) most of the time .. until it tells me to download the latest.

  • Safari cannot install profile due to unknown error

    hello
I was browsing a couple of sites today, and during browsing, i received a message saying "safari cannot install profile due to unknown error" , i am not to sure which of the sites gave this message, and browsing over them again does not give this message. I am using an iPad 2 16gb wifi. when going to General -> Settings , i dont have a profiles tab, so am not sure what profile it was trying to load. i also have nothing changed in my settings that i can see, should i be worried, that there is some spyware or malware loaded?. can an ipad get any kind of bad things through a profile install?. i have looked online but cannot see an answer.

You can not download items from the internet with an ipad, you can download from the app store or from itunes or some cloud services (dropbox) but not from browsers, there is an Iphone app for we transfer in the app store that appears that it can be used on an ipad as well.
You may want to take a look, its free

  • Download error -228, tryed all methods still no solution except .xpi manual install, please help!

    Hi,
Until last year i could normally d\load and install addons. Then i did an update to firefox 3 and it became impossible to update those installed addons or to d\load new ones.
I've followed all the advice here: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Unable%20to%20install%20add-ons without any result even made a totally clean install of firefox. Still not able to install any plugin or theme, getting the message: "Firefox could not install the file at
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/722/addon-722-latest.xpi?src=addondetail
    because: Download error
    -228"
I can go to the developers site to download the .xpi file and do a manual installation, but this has to be done for every addon and every theme, and every time i need to update those, so it's a pain in the back side.
Is there a solution to this problem?
    Thanks

Sometimes you only disable the user interface of security software, but the firewall services are still running in the background. So make sure that you give Firefox full access in the firewall.

  • Can't install any add-on if FF4.0.1

I have 2 versions of FF, latest 14.x and also 4.0.1 which I want to keep. I start both with different profiles using
    path_to_firefox.exe -P profile_name -no-remote
With 14.x I have no problems, but can't install any add-on in 4.0.1 - I tried installing from web or from a .xpi file - in both cases the download progress bar fills to 100% and then stays there forever, without proceeding further.
Is there a way to manually install an add-on? By this I don't mean from .xpi file, but really manually - if I extract .xpi contents, where should I place the files, and which other files I have to modify to have an add-on working?
    OS is XP sp3 pro 32-bit US-English
    Thanks

  • I can't install any add-ons in muse

I can't install any add-ons in muse or download the .mulib file to install it manually. Please, help. Also, it's pointless to download the .zxp file since Adobe Extension Manager does not support Muse. Any advice?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See:
    * [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile]
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

  • My iPad 1 cannot install any apps from apple store even though it has been updated to ios 5.1.1 which is better than 4.3 that is required by most of the apps in apple store. I reset factory settings but still to no avail I cannot install any apps.

MY iPad 1 cannot install any apps

A lot of apps have current versions that require higher iOS versions than 5.1.1
But some developers allow you to download older compatible versions of their apps. If the app is free then try downloading the current version on your computer's iTunes so that it's in your account's 'purchase' history, and then in the Purchased tab in the App Store app on your iPad see if you can download an older compatible version of the app. If the app is paid-for then try contacting the developer first and see if that will work with their app (and if they have a version compatible with iOS 5.1.1 available) - don't buy the app until you know that it will work.
There is also this page for finding current apps that require iOS 5.1.1 or lower : https://sites.google.com/site/appleclubfhs/support/advice-and-articles/finding-a pps-for-older-devices#5.1.1

Hi and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Don't worry, no special etiquette, we're all friends here
What was the software that you installed that claims to "enhance the speed of your system"? The logical thing to do would be to uninstall the application and hope that it hasn't caused wider ranging problems. The SW, if only halfway reputable, should have come with uninstall instructions. Follow the instructions, reboot and see if your download problem is fixed.
WRT to the slowing down that prompted your (misguided) installation of this SW there are many things that may be the culprit but the most common and easiest to fix is the remaining space on your HD. What size is your HD and how much free space is there? This info can be obtained by selecting your HD and keying Command (Apple) + I (the letter 'eye').
Post back with the SW concerned and the remaining space and we can take it from there.
    Good luck,
    Adrian

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.
