A 2008 Mac won't have originally shipped with Lion. You need to install 10.6.8 on the computer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.

  • Any time I open a photo program the application freezes.  I want to reinstall OSX from the original disk and then restore my machine from time machine Will a restore from time machine only restore my Apps and data

Tried to post a question about restoring my i mac from time machine, but this new format makes no sense to me.  I want to restore my i mac from time machine after I reinstall the OS from the original disk.  Will a time machine restore only restore the applications and data or will it restore the current state of the OS.  My machine will not let me open any photo applications (aperture, I photo, NX 2) I have to force quit them every time I try to get some work done.

I bought a 160gb iPod classic every time I try to put music on my external hard drive only copy up to 1500 songs and then freezes Itune me and I can not close, asks me to restore the ipod as factory, and do nothing . I try to close the program and itune will not let me, I try to turn off the computer and I can not shut, I looked to see if the iPod disk errors and says it's okay. I restored it about 8 times and I've put music and videos but I always delete everything. I crushed and Selection Menu to enter diagnostic sistemade or ipod and I put the manual test where I enter the IO and q tells me everything is fine. I have already given several Format directly from the Windows 7 and anything either, I always delete everything from passing over 1300 songs and I congeal whole team. No longer have to think of this company because Apple gives no solution has this issue.

  • Cannot Install OS Maveric after disk Erase

I had a while back a grey/black screen problem that would not allow me to wake up the Mac. I tried all the things I read here, Reset the SMC, the NVRAM/PRAM; verified disks, verified disk permissions, but nothing would work. So, I tried to restore, there I had the options to choose which disk on the left, and I chose the one I had the OS EXTENDED, and as the destination I put the Mac OS Install DVD. Now, I am not sure what I did, and it turned that now, on the disk (image) I have, under my Hard drive is the Mac OS X Install DVD, but althoug its capacity is 499.25 GB, it shows only 61 MB available, and Used: 5.38 GB.
Hoping to just install the Original DVDs I had so I could have use of my Mac. It didn't do much, I am able to not get the grey/black screen, and do get to start up to install, not the original DVDs, but I was able to download the OS Maverics (which is what I think caused the problem in the first place). But the thing is that even though I have downloaded it, it cannot be installed cause even though somehow I have 2 disks to choose from the Mac OS Install DVD, and another OS X Install ESD (I have no idea how I got it), both show they have at least 61 MB free and 5.44 GB total, there is not enough free space on them.
Can anyone help me please? Thank you lots. I live in Northen Italy, but I would rather not carry it on the train after walking to the station to take it somewhere to be looked at in Milan.

    Hi, Michael -
What version is the OS 9 Install CD? Is it a retail
one (white label, gold 9), or a model-specific one?
It's the retail version (white label, gold 9), one that I've had through my last 3 or 4 machines.

  • Installed 10.2.3 update Cannot install software on this disk, volume does

I recently bought an ibook and installed mac os x 10.2.2 which is the original software that shipped with this ibook. I am trying to update the 10.2.2 to 10.2.3 using a download off of apples website. When i try to install it, it runs as it should and when i get to the select destination portion I see my 40gb partitioned hdd with about 35gb total remaining.
It simply says, installing this software requires 196mb of space...You cannot install this software on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome To  Discussions txtexhox22!
In Your Other Topic, the discs you said You Purchased, are version 10.2.4, not 10.2.2.
If that is what you installed, you cannot not install a 10.2.3 update.
    Quoted:
    iBook OS X Software Install 10.2.4 (2 cd's) cd version 1.0
    iBook Software Restore (3 cd's) cd version 1.3 (OS X 10.2.4 & 9.2.2)
When you run Software Update, what version updates are offered?
Perhaps if you download & install the 10.2.8 Combo Update, it will work.
Also run Repair Permissions before and after the installation.

  • Lion OSX major network issue with MacBook but cannot restore from Snow Leopard disk - help!

I have a network with an airport extreme with two expresses and a time capsule extending the network.  The network has a Mac, apple TV and two iphones which all connect absolutely fine.  The macbook did too, until I upgraded to 7.6.1 on the airports.  I took the airports back to 7.6 but the Mac simply isn't speaking properly to my extreme.  It drops, speeds up, slows down and works differently in different part of the house.
Been to Genius who said, macbook is fine, try either a completely fresh install on the mac, or reset the network.  The reset of the network hasn't worked, so I wanted to reinstall snow leopard then lion on my mac.  Put the disk in, and it came up with the error can't install the Mac OSX from the install Mac OSX disc.  I have therefore tried the original leopard disks, which simply restart, chime and restart (continuously).
I need some help as this is my work computer and I don't seem to be able to get any help from anyone.
So I need to know the following:
    1) Has anyone got any other solutions for the extreme problem (have tried dragging out the preferences but that didn't work either);
    2) How do you reinstall an OS from the disk - as this in particular is a nightmare.
    3) Anyone able to suggest a work round??
Would be very grateful for assistance.
    Thanks

Hello ddownn and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
Firstly it will help us diagnose your problem to know the exact model, size, year built, RAM installed and OS you're running. That would include the OS and particulars about the Mac Pro.
"this system doesn't beep three times."
The normal diagnosis for that is RAM problems.
"I am able to complete the installation by using the DVD in my Mac Pro in Target Disk Mode with a FireWire cable"
But that shouldn't work because the install (build) would be particular to the Mac Pro.
"I recently installed a new HDD and formatted it from a Mac Pro via Target Disk Mode."
    Partitioned to GUID?
"disk spins up and stops about three times, then ejects and a folder icon with a question mark appears"
These DVD drives in these old laptops can often go bad. Try this:

  • Iphoto will not open after re-install from back up disk

iphoto gave me an error that it didnt work with the current MAC OS (I have 10.6.8).  I followed instructions to re-install iphoto from the back up application disk and now it say I can't open iphoto without a software update.  I check and all the software is currently up to date.  What is my next step?

    OK - a few questions.
What version of iPhoto do you have? If you're not sure, go to your Applications folder, click ONCE on iPhoto to highlight it, then click cmd-i to open the information window. The version number will be in the General tab, towards the top. (eg version 7).
What instructions did you follow, and what kind of backup disk are you talking about? The original iLife CD? A Time Machine drive? Something else?
If you do in fact have a particularly old version of iPhoto, it might well make sense just to get the latest version from the App Store, which is certainly compatible with 10.6.

  • Installing Photoshop Without Original Disk

Okay...This is kind of complicated. I got Adobe Creative Suite 2 a few years ago and have been using it ever since (only the Photoshop). Then I bought a new MacBook Pro, and I want to install it on here. And the Photoshop I have is the CS2 Premium version, which comes with like 4 installation disks. So I entered one of the disks, entered the serial number, and then it said to please enter the first installation disk. Well...I don't have it anymore. I'm not really sure where it is, lost somewhere in my house. So is there anything I can do? And I no longer have access to my old computer in which it was originally installed on. HELP!

You can see if your serial works with the tryout version:

  • Cannot boot from time machine disk

I have a 2012 MacPro with 1 SSD and 3 Mechanical Disks installed. The disk in Bay 4 I use as a time machine disk, but upon booting the computer and holding down option I was only able to select my primary OSX Boot device ("Macintosh SSD") with no other bootable devices listed. If I have Time Machine on an external disk, I am able to select it as a boot device.
I just had a recent scare with a completely currupted disk that needed reformatting, so I'm checking everything I have to make sure it works as expected.  Not being able to actually boot from the Time Machine disk to restore my computer if anything should go wrong with the Primary SSD and Hard Disk is quite worrysome.
How would I boot from an Internal Time Machine disk?
    UPDATE:
I have found that I do not have internet recovery and I also do not have a Recovery HD.
I am downloading Mountain Lion from the App store again and will try and create some recovery media from that.

You should be using Carbon Copy Cloner to put a bootable copy of your SSD on another disk drive (it will offer to create ML Recovery volume also).
    Cloning
Using Cloning as a Backup Strategy
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/7032/carbon-copy-cloner
You can have one drive that has clone of all the other drives in multiple partitions.
You could have more than one TimeMachine drive and a copy (cloned partition) of the system on each.
I do NOT understand why you can boot from TimeMachine on an external drive.
I have never even tried to boot from TimeMachine. You mean Recovery mode, not a standard system?
    Mac Basics: Time Machine
Hold down the Option key at startup to boot into the startup manager. Select the Recovery system of the Time Machine backup to start from. Once started, you will have all of the functionality of Recovery.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    Mac OS X Recovery: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
What I do and what I think you should include and add to your backup strategy:
An SSD *NEEDS* to have a disk image for restore if and as needed (and you need TRIM Enabler, and you need TE on your secondary drive.
You / we always have needed an "emergency / maintenance boot drive"
You can shrink and create 120GB partition on your backup drive but never have just one backup set or drive, "all your eggs in one basket" does not work forever.
Your OPTION boot should, if you installed ML or it came with it and you installed or cloned to the SSD, had one, or using "Command + R" on startup to boot from Recovery Mode. Trouble with that is if the drive needs to be formatted, and an SSD should be at times, you can only erase another partition, not the entire device.

  • Replaced Hp with new hard drive but now i cannot install windows 7 recovery disks

Ok, so my laptop is a hp pavilion dv4-2165dx that has a broken screen and sometime after best buy tried to fix it the hard disk blew. I bought a new hard disk and put it in the computer and i got the official recovery and installation disks for windows 7. The hard drive is recognized by the computer and does start the recovery manager but it gets to 1% and does not go further. I let it run all night and the next morning it said that the cd failed. Did it fail because i have to connect an hdmi cord to my lg tv to see anything? Or was it because of something else?
I researched and found that with a new hard drive i will have to partition it and then format it to work with windows 7.
My question is, if the computer doesnt boot or let me use windows how can i partition and format the new hard disk? I have an older hp laptop as well that works efficiently in regard to its age (7) yrs. i wonder if i can buy a usb to sata/ide cord and attach the new disk to my old laptop and partition/format it there? Idk

Hello CaptianNike, welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you're trying to install Windows 7 on a replacement hard drive. I will try to assist you with this.
You definitely could use another computer to format and partition the drive. I'm not certain about the cables you've mentioned though (looked with goolgle and you can get usb to sata cables). If the computer is a desktop you should be able to connect it internally to just do the format/partition.
If the recovery disks worked correctly, then you should have the option to do the format and partition via Windows. This could be an indication as well that there's an issue with the disks.
Which leaves you with the option of obtaining another set of disks to try, or trying to partition first then installing. The easier would be the latter.
    I hope this helps.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
