I cannot install itunes 10.5.1 on windows XP.

It gets about 3/4 way through installing then says there has been an error try downloading manually, which i do and the same error message appears.
I have been trying to get this downloaded for ages now, and have trawlled through these discussion threads and tried everything people are recommending.
I have not yet uninstalled itunes because I am worried if I do I will lose all of my music pics etc.
If this is not the case then I'll try that as my next port of call
Carly

I had a problem installing latest vertion of Itunes "10.5. blabla". It took me a while. Now I was able to uninstall. I had to do repair on Apple update for it to uninstall. Before I did the repair I got the same error message as when I tried to intall the latest version of Itunes. I'm going to try to install everything again.
More or less these are the symptoms of issue:
1)Dell XPS L702X, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2820QM CPU @2.30GHz, 8gb ram, 64bit,
2) I don't use the PC, my Wife does, I'm the only one that is the administrator, Is being about 6-8 months since I last installed the itunes
3) I have an iphone and I tried to update both the PC and the phone
4) Got the following message "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel package vendor"
5)I tried many things, I got instructions on how to uninstall itunes completely,
        A. Itunes uninstalled with no issue
        B. Quicktime uninstalled with no issue
        C. Apple Software Update COULD NOT UNINSTALL, got same error as 4) above
        D. Apple Mobile Device Supporet uninstalled no issue
        E. Bonjour uninstalled with no issues
        F. Apple Application Support uninstalled no issues
6) Then I read on a thread to go to control panel, remove programs, find the name of the program, right click, then click repair. I did this and then the software C uninstalled succesfully.
Now I'm going to try to reinstall the entire Itunes software and see if it works now.

  • Cannot install iTunes or Safari on my Windows 7 pc

I ran my recovery discs in my Windows 7 pc today. Hence, iTunes was removed. I cannot reinstall iTunes. I read something about its may having to do something with the type of browser that you use to download iTunes. I used Google Chrome and Internet explorer. I tried saving the installer as an application on my desktop and tried to install from the app. I then tried to download Safari, thinking that might help. However, Safari will not work either. I received two error messages:
    1. I might not have product eligiblity or authority or authorization ...something like that
    2. Something about not having Apple support applications
    3. A third thing that was in computerese hyroglyphics

The program then acts like it is still trying to load, but then I get another message later which reads:
Service 'Aple Mobile Device' failed to start. verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
    any suggestions?

    HRESULT: 0x80073712
These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 80073712, or some other number? (If they're another number, what number are you getting?)

  • I cannot install itunes 10.3.1 on Windows 7 because it can't remove the old Bonjour

This is the 64 bit version of itunes 10.3.1 that I can't install.  I tried to get rid of all traces of Apple software in add/remove programs and I can't because they are on a network resource that I can't access even though my user account is administrator.  I deleted all traces of Apple software in my program files, windows files, and x86 files but I still get the same message when I try to delete them in add/remove programs.  I can only update my apps on my iphone 4, no new software updates.  This has been for the last 2 months when I started getting the message in itunes that I needed to upgrade.

However, I keep getting the error as the itunes installer gets to the point of computing space requirements.
That one's consistent with disk/file damage (on occasion ... it's not the most common symptom of it, and can be caused by other things). So I'd try running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Cannot install iTunes 12.1.1 on Windows 7 (64 bit)

Hello.  I've tried to do this about 10 times now and it's driving me crazy.  The new iTunes update installed first time and works fine on my laptop (Win 7 home premium, 32 bit) but it absolutely refuses to work on my desktop (Win 7 home premium, 64 bit, quad core, 8gb RAM, ample hard drive space).  I've been using iTunes for years and had no problems with the previous version.
The installation hangs 75% of the way through each attempt, with the message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device Service' failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services".  I then get 3 options of abort, retry and ignore.  If I retry it just keeps coming back to the same message.  If I ignore then the installation completes but I then get the message "iTunesHelper was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7".  Then, every time I restart my machine or try to launch iTunes I get the message "iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error 193)".
Here's what I've tried, in various combinations:
ensured I have installed all windows updates
uninstalled all iTunes and related programmes in the order specified on the Apple support pages (via Control Panel and the executable file), restarted, removed all the associated folders and files (including all 32 and 64 bit versions) from the Program Files directory on my C drive (where the iTunes installation is located), verified that they are gone.
cleared cache and temporary internet files from my browser, emptied the recycle bin
    uninstalled QuickTime
installed the executable iTunes package via "Run as administrator"
tried the "Repair" option from both Control Panel and via the executable file
unpacked the Apple Mobile Device Service separately and installed separately
And nothing makes any difference to the result.  I can't help but think there that is some kind of incompatibility between the latest version of A.M.D.S. and the latest version of Windows 7 64 bit.  I'm not interested in whether it's Apple's or Microsoft's fault but I would like a solution, even if that solution is reinstalling an older version of iTunes.  I hope you can help.

A bit of repetition, mainly for the benefit of anyone else with the same issue. In your case the "for older video cards" version might be worth a try.
When cleaning folders you need to check both the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders, which you may well have done but didn't mention in the detail above.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if Apple Mobile Device Support won't install normally.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • TS3212 Cannot install iTunes to my PC running Windows Vista. Message "The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory....Log on as administrator." I am logged on as administrator. I am attempting to install from download by right-clicki

I've had iTunes on my PC forever. Because recent updates have aborted with the message:"The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory... Log on as administrator," I am now attempting to download a fresh copy from the Apple website. Same message! I am logged on as administrator. I can download, then attempt to run by right-clicking on the installer and selecting, "Run as administrator" but that gets me only to the same point (and message) as attempting to install directly from the internet. I've never seen this message with any other download. What gives?

What's the precise name of the directory being mentioned? (Give the full file path, please.)

It will work with Windows 7 32 bit.  On a 64 bit you will have to install Windows XP Mode.  You can download it from the Microsoft Website.  The XP Mode will run Windows XP in 32 bit.  Microsoft has easy instructions on the download.  One download at a time.  Install the first download then the second download.  You will have to copy your icon from all program and paste to the desktop if you are going to use it often.
