  • Pearl cannot be discovered by Blackberry Desktop Manager

My computer connects to my Pearl via Bluetooth, but I cannot get the Desktop Manager to discover the Pearl.  The Pearl uses Com3, but when I try to use Blackberry Device Manager to add a COM port, I cannot get it to add COM3.  It automatically adds COM8, COM9, COM10 and so on.  Does Verizon not permit a connection via Bluetooth?  If so, how can I make the connection?

Issue resolved! : ) I deleted the browser cache data and the backup finally worked. Thank you so much for helping me resolve this problem.

  • Cannot sync - BB8900 with BB Desktop Manager for Mac

After first downloading Desktop Manager, I was able to sync with my 8900 once.  Now, every time I connect the device (via USB), Desktop Manager opens, attempts to connect to the device, and fails.  Status of the device shows at 'not connected'.
I've followed the sync services set up for Entourage and Mac. I've also uninstalled Desktop Manager and reinstalled, but it didn't resolve it.  I've disabled my password protection from the 8900 as well, and that hasn't worked.
I used PocketMac before, and while there were some issues with data loss and overlap, it worked most of the time.  I have uninstalled PocketMac at this point.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hey Maarten08 and autoca,
I would suggest doing the following:
Uninstall BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac, restart the computer.
    Then perform the following:
On the Mac computer, navigate to Macintosh HD >
    System > Library >
    Extensions.
    Locate the BlackBerryUSB.kext and
    BlackBerryUSBDev.kext files.
Move these two files to the Trash.
    Empty the Trash.
    Restart the Mac computer.
Then go to www.blackberry.com/desktop to re-download BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac.
Install and then hook up the BlackBerry and make sure you have mass storage mode enabled.
For information on how to enable mass storage mode: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB13564

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager for 8320 - OS 4.5.0.124

hey guys...please help me..i'm trying to download blackberry desktop manager for my 8320 for os 4.5.0.124 but just confuse which version to download..?? I forgot what i had the last time. thanks!!
    MHOESAIN

    Hi there!
The device and DTM versions are independent...you can run an OS version that is older than your DTM version. For me, I'd probably not want to run an older DTM version than my OS version, but I've not read that such is a problem, it's just my personal theory.
What you definitely should do is check which version of DTM you need by virtue of how you sync -- if you tether and sync to a PIM, choose a DTM version that supports your PIM -- see this matrix:
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
Me, I'd select the latest DTM version that supports my PIM. If you don't tether-sync, then the PIM compatibility is irrelevant...so choose DTM 5.0.
Next, be sure and DL and install (to your PC) your carriers device OS package atop of DTM so that, when you tether, DTM knows what it needs to know about your BB on your carrier and can present you with appropriate things. You can get your carriers OS DL package via this portal:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
Hope that helps! Let us know!

    Go to Solution.

If you're running Windows try going to Start | Run and type in (w/o quotes) "%temp%".
That should open the temp directory where the software may be trying to install to. If the folder isn't empty delete it's contents and try again.

  • Cannot completely uninstall BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.6

Whenever I try to uninstall the BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.6,
I get window that is looking for the BlackBerry Desktop Messenger.msi file in c:\Temp\<something>
I downloaded the latest 4.6 from the BlackBerry website, unzipped it and then point to the msi in there.
I get a message that says this is not the correct msi file for this application.
The latest version is B027 and I might have installed an earlier version.
Any thoughts on how to get this completely uninstalled.
Reason is I cannot install 4.6 or 4.7 because it first wants to complete the uninstall.
Further I cannot download the Webex client as it also is looking for this uninstall to complete.
    Any help is appreciated.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
It sounds like you've got some real PC-level problems there...with all that you've done, I honestly don't know what to advise you at this internet-distance. I do know that, in the past, others have gotten into the same situation you are in and have would up totally reloading their PC OS from scratch in order to clean things up. I hope you don't have to go to that extent. But, several of your statements cause me to have questions...

You can or cannot do the uninstall from the Control Panel? I cannot tell from what you've said. The clean uninstall is documented in the prior-linked KB.

Yup...you've created quite a problem there...you might try re-installing the software, in repair mode (if such is offered), and then perhaps you'll be able to uninstall.

Again, is it or is it not showing in add/remove programs? I cannot tell from what you've said...

  • Can't install downloaded Blackberry Desktop software

I downloaded the latest version of the BB 8100 desktop software from the BB site to my computer. It unzips OK but when it starts to install it stops every time. Have exited every Windows program first.  Any ideas?

    Problem:
Similar but not the same as errors 2738 1607 encountered with installing blackberry desktop manager software, there is no error message here, simply the WinZip Self Extractor completes, then the Installshield Wizard opens and appears to be installing.  After several seconds, a BlackBerry window opens (BlackBerry Desktop Software - Installshield Wizard) with the message: "The wizard was interrupted before the BlackBerry Desktop Software could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.    Click Finish to exit the wizard.
    Solution(s)
Ok, saw this thread was un answered so I thought I would reply in case anyone out there has this issue too, it drove me mental for a week too.  (before you read on I am not responsible for any messed up computers, blackberries or anything at all! This  is a GUIDE that worked for me and not the law!) So, here we go… I tried many many things to fix this, I am on Vista home, berry 9700 bold 2, TELUS Mobility (doesn’t really matter), Blackberry handheld OS 5.0, Vista Desktop Manager 5.0.1. English without media manager/roxio w/Sp1 downloaded from blackberry. I tried just about everything you can imagine, know my way around computers reasonably well (or so my mom tells me haha) and uninstalled the previous version of desktop manager with REVO uninstaller etc...
Some of the other things I tried that did NOT work for me but MAY WORK for you are as follows, what ultimately worked for me was step C and all sub sections of, I might start there but I am writing this in order of things I tried.
Solution A) un/re registering vbscript.dll (in c:windows\system32) to no avail…click start, run cmd prompt (should open as admin),
    1. Start à Accessories à right-click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator. A Windows Elevation confirmation screen will pop up. Confirm the action OR alternatively just run CMD from Start àrun à cmd and it should run as admin
    2. The Command Administrator Prompt opens to something like the following- C:\Windows\system32>. If anything else change directory by typing this without quotes: “cd\windows\system32”
    1)     Now at the command prompt, which should be- C:\Windows\system32  unregister the vbscript.dll file from Windows by typing at the command prompt (without quotes) “regsvc32 /u vbscript32.dll” (This will un-register the VB Script dll with your computer. A confirmation window will appear after this)
    2)     Now we want to register it C:\Windows\system32 regsvr32 vbscript.dll (This registers VB Script with your computer -- a confirmation window will appear after this as well.)
    3)     Try rebooting and running your blackberry software install
Solution B) Everything on this site : This Blackbery Forum Post (great post, thanks! Hey, you might learn something here that will come in handy one day if it doesn’t help you now, I did)
Follow each step there, try rebooting and running your blackberry software install as indicated
Solution B.Longshot) If A and B don’t work, you can try a repair of vista using the recover cd (if you don’t have one go here: neoSmart (I downloaded and burned image with aShampoo dvd burning software, restart windows with DVD/CD in the drive, press F12 on boot (or whatever gets YOU into ‘setup’, not the BIOS, change boot first device to CD/DVD ROM. I used this and it works perfectly, just follow their directions on the site and pick the right version for your OS etc) be *VERY*CAREFUL to NOT wipe your drive and just do a REPAIR (can take an hour), again if you don’t know what you are doing, skip this one and move on.
What DID WORK for ME, is the following (SORRY FOR THE CAPS BUT THIS IS IMPORTANT *** DO NOT ASSUME THAT USING AN UNINSTALLER LIKE REVO WILL DO ALL OF THIS FOR YOU - THIS WAS MY MISTAKE from the beginning, 25 hours later I realized that YOU NEED TO DO THE UNINSTALL AND SOME MANUAL STEPS EVEN IF YOU SELECT THE MOST THOROUGH***)
This one, D, worked for me specifically:
Solution D) Uninstall the BlackBerry Desktop Software, preferably using REVO UNINSTALLER  go:  HERE to get Revo (CNET)
Use the Advanced uninstall option, thorough option, the last one down the list, this will notonly use blackberry’s built in uninstaller, but scan for remnants of the software on your drive and registry
When prompted select all and delete everything it finds, do not skip any steps, reboot, try re-installing the blackberry desktop software
You could try a similar type of uninstaller if you have one; however, I don’t recommend leaving it to using the control panel add/remove programs, I did not try this with that method
Solution D part 2) Once you have uninstalled and rebooted
    - Delete the Research In Motion Folders from the hard drive AND Registry
Browse to C:\program files\Research in Motion, delete this folder
    Click Start à Run.
Type Regedit, and then click OK. (Please be careful here, only do this if you have a good idea what you are doing, you can really mess things up here, go slow carefully please please please)
In Registry Editor, delete the Research In Motion folder located at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\
Delete the Research In Motion folder located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\   (This key will supposedly be missing if you are removing Desktop Manager version 4.0)
Reboot, reinstall the Blackberry Software, issue SHOULD HOPEFULLY be resolved!! So there you have it. I am 99% sure one of those things will get you back on your feet....good luck,
    Good luck
I can be reached at 6packs at live dot com if you spot an error I can fix, otherwise please post to the forums!

  • Installing Blackberry Desktop Manager Software

    Hi,
I'm trying to install the Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.0 Sp1 software
    onto a few PC's.
Once I've customised the setup.ini file and run "setup.exe /s" from the
local drive (or network drive), the program setup installs the software
    correctly.
However, when creating a Zen App object and inserting the following in
the "Run Options" tab, all I get is the MSIEXEC options screen (same as
    running msiexec.exe /?)
    Path to File:
    C:\Setup\Blackberry_Desktop_4-0_Sp1\Blackberry_DM_4.0Sp1.exe /s
    Working Directory: C:\Setup\Blackberry_Desktop_4-0_Sp1\
Any idea why the setup works when executing from Windows Explorer, but
fails when executing from Zen App objects?
    Thanks for the input...

    Hi Anders,
    Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I definitely selected the option "A Simple Application (No
    ..AOT/.AXT.MSI file)"
It's worth mentioning that the setup.exe file calls an MSI file called
    "BlackBerry Desktop Software.msi".
That appears to be done via the setup.ini file. See below.

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager won't read Blackberry Torch

I've been having trouble with my Blackberry Torch as my computer will not recognize it in Blackberry Desktop Software. It's actually very wierd because I will plug my phone in to a USB port and the port will charge the phone, but nothing else happens. The reason why this is weird because I've had it work for a long time and then one day, it just didn't work any more. I've done every type of trouble-shooting listed in the Help menu including rebooting the computer/phone, replacing the cable, re-downloading the software, etc etc. I've also been able to connect the phone using Bluetooth, but unfortunately I was limited with what I could do with that connection (ie. I couldn't tranfer any music/media).
So yeah if you have any suggestions, please let me know. I'd really appreciate it.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Here is something you should first perhaps try, before those tricks. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    4) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Now you are ready to try the tricks, but since this thread is so ancient, I'll re-post my current list of things to try...
Here is the list of troubleshooting articles...hopefully something will be useful:

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
    Hopefully something there is helpful!
    Cheers!
