I cannot launch itunes.

Can someone assist me, with an itunes issue. I am using Windows XP on my PC and now all of a sudden during an upgrade, I got an error and now I cannot launch or locate it on my pc. I've tried to reinstalling in manually and it will not work.
Please advise some helpful tips. Thank you.

Cannot launch iTunes 7.2

Using XP Home, I downloaded and successfully installed 7.2 but when it launches, it begins the "Updating iTunes library" progress bar, which gets a little past halfway done before iTunes just freezes. I uninstalled and reinstalled. I uninstalled and installed an older version of iTunes, and the same thing is happening. I uninstalled and reinstalled again, nothing.
Quicktime works just fine.
Any suggestions?

think it's an iTunes problem not his library. I just
downloaded a 7.0 version which is working fine again
(I had the same problem with the 7.1 versions)
Actually, I'm pretty certain the problem is the library file at this point.
I backed up the library file and then removed it from the default location. After that, iTunes started up without a hitch, albeit with an empty library. Pretty clearly, it's gotta be the library file.

I recently updated from iTunes 10.6.1 to 11.1.1. My OS is 10.6.8 so it should work but it does not launch. I tried to download again from the iTunes store but the file does not transfer completely and I get no option to install. Restart your PC. after the PC restarts, bring up your Task manager, and go to the "Processes" tab. Click "Image name" to sort the processes alphabetically.
Now try to launch iTunes.
Does an itunes.exe process appear? If so, does it vanish after a second or so, or does it persist in the Processes tab (even though iTunes itself never shows up)?

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

My father-in-law's computer has iTunes for Windows XP. At present, clicking the iTunes icon, or selecting iTunes from Start:Programs, launches an iTunes installer.
The InstallShield process runs, and the software seemingly installs OK. However, when I reboot the PC and launch iTunes, it again launches the installer.
I have tried uninstalling iTunes, but always encounter the error message, "A later version of iTunes is already on this machine. Installation cannot continue". The uninstall process quits.
I've tried removing QuickTime as was suggested in another thread, but it did not help.
I also tried downloading the current version of iTunes for Windows from the apple site, but the PC still thinks there is a more recent version and gives the same error message when trying to install the downloaded software.
It seems I am stuck. How can I stop the PC from thinking there is a later version?

all Norton's were disabled. After install, QT and iTunes worked, but iTunes worked only briefly. After a couple hours went back in and iTunes will no longer launch. only get the hourglass for a second.

The iTunes application should be installed on the system drive. You may need to repair iTunes to fix that error regarding a missing .exe.
To organize your library properly see Make a split library portable.
If you don't have a working version of the library that can be transformed into a portable shape I have tools and techniques that can repair the broken links.

When I go to settings->usage->music, I see that there is enough music in the phone to suggest that music has been synced with iTunes. I just don't know how to access it. Could someone pleas help?

If you want to drag and drop then you would have to select Manually Manage Music.
Otherwise, just sync your music.

I recently upgraded to the iTunes 10, and didn't have any problems. Today when I tried to launch iTunes, I was told that iTunes had installed incorrectly - Apple Error #7, Windows Error #998, and that I should re-install iTunes. But when I did reinstall iTunes, I got the same error message. iTunes was working fine yesterday!

Most commonly, an error 7 is either caused by trouble with your Microsoft .NET framework, or problems with one of the applications iTunes needs in order to run (most commonly Apple Application Support, although a damaged QuickTime can cause error 7s too, in my experience).
It seems more likely that your AAS or QuickTime would have "gone off" overnight than your .NET framework. So, let's try a complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes and all related components and software this time, as per:

Brand new iPhone- won't connect, won't launch iTunes, can't do anything (??

Hi everyone. I hope someone can help. I just bought my iPhone today at Apple. I walked by AT&T and had an account set up. So, all was well, until I tried to plug it in. Two things have happened.
First, I can't use the phone. When I plug it in, it does not launch iTunes. I've read in other posts to give it 2 minutes and see if it will. I've also read to launch iTunes myself. I've tried both, and nothing. When I launch iTunes it does not show. It doesn't show on my desktop either, but not sure if it should, since it's new to me.
Specifically, the only thing that happens is, I hear a chirp or a tone and the screen lights up when I connect the USB cable. But all it reads is "Slide for emergency" which I did...I guess that's for an emergency call. An icon appears in the middle showing the usb cable and an arrow pointing to an iTunes icon. I've plugged it in, so not sure whey this is still showing. Also, at the very top it reads "no service" which I guess is due to it not being set up yet. And, there's a little "lock" symbol at the top. That's all I get. I've tried rebooting. Nothing. I've tried repairing permissions, then rebooting. Nothing. I cannot get this thing to connect.
Second, and please hear me out on this one. I've used macs for a while and am generally knowledgeable about them. Also, i've been on this iMac for about 5 months, hooked to the same internet connection. However, for whatever reason, after trying to plug the iPhone in, my internet and web applications have gone to complete crap on me. The WILL NOT connect at high speed...it's unbelievably slow. Insufferable even. Now, i've used this every day and have a really good idea of how it reacts. This is 100% out of the ordinary. As I sit here typing this, this page is STILL trying to complete loading. Something is clearly wrong here. Some pages won't load altogether. I've tried resetting my modem (disconnecting, unplugging). Performance was exactly the same. And, as mentioned, i repaired permissions. So, it's a little more than coincidental to me this happened immediately after running into troubles with my iphone connection. It's like the iphone somehow messed my computer up.
Sorry for the long post. I hope you can understand that I'm very frustrated. It appears that, not only can I not get my phone to work, but it seems i've messed my computer up in the process somehow. Any suggestions? Please. Thanks for your help.

For anyone reading this, I've solved both problems, and figured i'd post in case it could help anyone else.
First, the iPhone issue. I figured it out by reading another post here. Basically, in the start up items of your "accounts" in system preferences, there's an item called iTunesHelper. I had that unchecked. I can't remember why...I guess b/c I believed I wasn't using it. Anyway, I had read that that could be a problem, so I checked it, rebooted, and low and behold....the iPhone connected and launched iTunes. I'm now up and running. Phew.
As for the internet sluggishness, I don't know what was causing it. But, I just booted from the Leopard dvd, ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions as well as verify disk. Everything checked out. Rebooted on Macintosh HD, and everything was fine. It's as if it never happened. Very weird. But it's fixed.
Hope that maybe helps someone in someway...if your iPhone's not launching iTunes, try checking the iTunesHelper app in your startup items. Worked for me.

I want to force iTunes to organize my mp3/mp4 files as I want and show that when I launch iTunes

I find file management in iTunes to be very unApple like. Periodically I import mp3 or mp4 files that show up under music when I launch iTunes. I would like to name and order them by date and put them in a folder, album, or some collection item to facilitate finding and using them later. Copy and paste does not work,
drag and drop does not work. If I go to where the items are stored as music files I can achieve a named collection of these files ordered as I wish. That, however, does not manifest itself back in iTunes.
One of two things appears to be the case. Either I cannot manage iTunes as it thinks it owns everything or I simply cannot uses the apple file management paradigm in use for the past two decades on an Apple computer running iTunes. Perhaps both of these are true. Another possibility is to install a different program over which I have control and disable iTunes from ever touching one of my imported files.
It is possible that Apple intentionally obfuscated file management with iTunes to simplify their commercial management of the iTunes store, and while that is a possibility, understanding it is enigmatic.
Another quandary is the concept of album. Under "New", playlists are mentioned, but not albums or folders. Yet both may show up mysteriously. There must be a ghost in my computer.
Help and psychoanalysis will be appreciated.

Since there are no obvious answers to this dilemma, I have changed my thinking on the subject. It is a title like giving up on teaching a pig to sing. Since I can organize all my mp3 files anyway I choose and furthermore can name them anything I choose I have done so and stored them under a named folder in the Music folder. I can play them with Quick Time and never have to go through iTunes at all.
Case closed.
