I cannot launch iTunesSetup.exe - unknown publisher

When I open iTunesSetup.exe after downloading it from the website there is warning message that the file does not have a valid digital signature & is from an unknown publisher. This is confirmed when right clicking the file & selecting properties. I have spent 2 hours on the phone with a helpful guy from Apple but have drawn a blank .Firewall has been turned off , Norton 360 removed , internet settings changed , temp file deleted , etc etc .
Norton have said that Microsoft may know what to do . Is anyone else having this problem ? Surely the file on the website cannot be faulty ?

The most common fix for this is to download the iTunesSetup.exe file from another router.
Or, if you are downloading from a wireless connection, try downloading from wired connection.
Here are just 2 examples where this was the fix for other folks

  • Cannot install itunes - message "unknown publisher & no digital signature

I have been using itunes for ages but on Tuesday when i tried to update my IPOD it froze so i then checked that i had the most up date itunes by downlading the latest version which i have done loads of times without any problem. THis time however every time it downloaded it came up with the error message "unknown publisher" and "no digital signature". It gave the option of running the program still but then it would just close and not do anything!!
I have been to the apple shop and my ipod has been sorted although everything has been wiped as they had to restore it. I have again today tried to download itunes but am still getting the same message so cannot put music back onto my ipod to use!!
I use windows vista and have an ipod touch. We hav also tried another computer but are still having the same problem. Any ideas??
    Thanks
    Caz

Should I just get the itunes setup folder from a person that has got it already?
Yes, that usually works. (So long as we can get an undamaged installer onto the PC with one of these, it will usually install fine.)
Another thing that is worth a try is seeing if you can connect to a different wireless network, and downloading the installer while you're connected to the internet that way. (The wireless router being grumpy is a common cause of this sort of thing, so by connecting to a different network you're taking the grumpy router out of the equation.)

  • ODTwithODAC1020221.exe unknown publisher

I was surprised that Oracle did not sign the executable I downloaded from the OTN web site.
    I got unknown publisher.
    Is this standard operating procedure?
    Thanks,

ODTwithODAC1020221.exe is an old release. The newer ODAC releases all use signed executables.

  • Cannot locate iTunesSetup.exe

I was having problems accessing the iTunes store so I was told to un-install and re-install 10.
I removed ONLY iTunes and have been trying to re-install but I'm running into a slight problem.
After hitting download I'm given the option to save iTunesSetup.exe
    I click Save File.
The Downloads dialog box opens up and says the download has been canceled(I don't click anything to make it do this)
I then click on it to resume downloading.
It downloads completely and states all downloads have been completed.
The iTunesSetup.exe isn't anywhere to be found.
Not on desktop and not in my downloads folder. I've tried searching and nothing has come up.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Please explain more clearly.
What version of SQLDeveloper; what JDK; and what operating system?
Did you download the version which includes a JDK or not? If it did not include the JDK, you will be prompted to tell SQLDeveloper where the JDK is installed. is this happening? What happens when you do that?

  • Cannot launch external exe

    Hi,
I have to launch and external exe.
The exe "ComputeRay" is working when I launch it from the command window as shown below.
But when I try to launch it with system ("ComputeRay") I get the error file not found (-3).
How could I make it work?

I may be wrong, but it's my opinion that using two consecutive calls to system () is equivalent to open a command prompt, call the exe, closing the window, opening a new command prompt and calling the other program.
The easiest solution could be to add the last call inside the batch file make one call only to system. Alternatively you could try editing environment variables like PATH with _putenv () function. You could also try to edit _default.pif file (or whichever is its equivalent in Win7/8 OSs) as described in the help for system ().The last resource could be to permanently set environment variables in your system as described in this guide.
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • Cannot download firefox... due to error of unknown publisher using windows 7

    firefox%20Setup%203.6.13.exe
    unknown publisher
    could not download
previously was downloaded...and I was reinstalling it... but can't... I changed my security setting to Medium to see if this would help

Yeah, the 64-bit tip isn't going to help.
Let's instead try reregistering your Windows Installer Service.
First, launch a command prompt as an administrator. In your Start search, type cmd then right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".
    At the command prompt:
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Close the command prompt, restart the PC and try another iTunes install.

  • Unknown Publisher error when trying to open forms screen

    Hi,
I log in as System Administrator to 11.5.9 Apps. When I try to open any form (eg conc requests), a pop window opens with message "The publisger could not be verified. Install oajinit.exe , Unknown Publisher"
How can I get rid of this?
    Thanks,
    Dnyanesh

Is it for just you or all users?
If it is only for your user, uninstall Jinitiator with add/remove programs and reinstall it by clicking on a forms link. If it does not install, goto http://hostname.domain:port/OA_HTML/oajinit.exe
If all users see it, your Jinitiator certificate needs to be resigned. You can run adjkey -initialize, and it would also be a good time to upgrade your jinitiator.
How to use, create and /or update Digital Certificates for Jinitiator in 11i Applications

Use adadmin to regenerate all JAR files, then uninstall the old Jinitiator on the PC with add/remove programs.

  • Request to run updater.exe from an unknown publisher starting firefox

every time Firefox is started from initial turn on of computer (not from the computer being hibernated or in sleep mode), I receive a message to run Updater.exe from an Unknown Publisher. There is nothing to show that this is a Firefox application but, I am not receiving any threat messages either. Is there any way to find out where this Updater is coming from and if it is to be trusted?

Do you use a Norton security suite? If so, I suggest checking with Norton's support on whether that prompt is legitimate.
You will find numerous unofficial distributors advertising on Google for Firefox downloads. These generally are bundles of crap along with Firefox. You should check to make sure you don't have such a thing installed.
Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help surface undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
You can supplement your regular security software with the '''scanning/cleaning tools''' listed in our support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.
    Does that help?

  • HT5770 Cannot install QuickTime 7.x security update and why does the file say 'unknown publisher'?

I downloaded QuickTime 7.x security update (recommended by my VP), but I cannot run. I am getting the message 'Unknown Publisher', but when I click run, nothing happens?

    Hello,
Seems someone from Apple corrected the problem.
I just downloaded a new version, again, due to upgrade to a larger HDD, and the new installer does have Apple name identified.
    So try it again.
    Good luck.

  • Have had to re-download Mozilla due to malware - final step of installation asks if I will allow unknown publisher to make changes to computer - click YES and get message my computer is infected with malware - click NO and cannot open Mozilla

Long story short, unwisely allowed unknown publisher to make changes to my computer (which I thought was related to my anti-virus protection) last night. In the process, seems I allowed malware (called antivirus8). Neither Explorer or Mozilla were available - seemed to have been wiped out by antivirus8 thing. Explorer came back up (with favorites still intact) after doing full scans and a few other things...but Mozilla did not. Uninstalled Mozilla and re-downloaded. Final step of installation asked if I wanted to allow an unknown publisher (and I'm sorry to say I don't remember exactly what it was...something with safe in the name, I think) to make changes to my computer. Clicked NO and still not able to access Mozilla...redid and clicked YES and immediately got message that my computer was infected with malware. Have used Mozilla for years...hate just having Explorer. Anti-virus program is Kaspersky...ran full scan and it did not detect a thing...so I really don't know what happened!

Try running several malware scanners to see if Kaspersky missed anything. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Malwarebytes]
    * [http://www.superantispyware.com/ SUPERAntiSpyware]
    * [http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php Ad-Aware]
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx Windows Defender]
    * [http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html Spybot S&D]
If the above malware scanners do not find any malware or can not clear it, you should consider posting in one of these forums for specialized malware removal help:

  • Users need to run an Unknown Publisher .exe during Remote Desktop session

I believe this still holds true (closer to the bottom, adding to trusted sites).
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/askie/archive/2009/06/19/how-to-bypass-the-security-warning-unknown-publishe...

Let me flesh this out best I can...
In a domain network I have a Remote Desktop Services running on MS Server 2008 R2. One of its jobs is to serve up applications that do not need to be installed on every users machine. While installing a new application, logged on as the administrator, I noticed this particular application has an unknown publisher. The application did install fine and will run under the admin account without warning or prompting for permission. The application does get stopped when opened with a domain user account and demands admin credentials. The UAC (user account control) steps in - due to the unknown publisher and 'making changes to this computer' safety concerns.
Hopefully this has been asked before and I missed finding the post.If not, any suggestions to allow users access to the application?Thank you for your...

  • Unknown publisher message

Been lurking in the forums for a while - and I've found many
useful responses already. I've got a question that I've seen asked,
but never really answered, so I'll throw it out again.
We're publishing standalone EXE files from Captivate 2.0 for
our people to use. We're linking to them through a separate
customized html page (using EXE rather than html/swf for now
because we have video files embedded, and the EXE simplifies things
for now by creating one file rather than multiple files per movie -
several other reasons, but we've played with everything as
options). For now, the EXE files are located in the same folder as
    the html page.
We briefly tried linking to the EXE files through hyperlinks
in a Word document. This triggered a single dialog box asking if
the user really wanted to open the file. We're changing this launch
page to an html page for several reasons. Unfortunately, when
linking directly to the EXE files from our new launch page, we get
two dialog boxes, which is pretty inconvenient. The two messages
    are:
    1) Do you want to run or save this file? (of course - that is
why we linked to it...) --> Run
    2) The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want
to run this software? (Unknown publisher error) --> Run
First, is there any way to get around one or both of these
dialogs? It seems to me to be a Windows and/or browser security
issue, but I can't seem to get around the issue.
Second, if I can't get around both of these dialogs, has
anyone been able to use a digital certificate to prevent the
Unknown Publisher error? If so, any good resources on how to do
    this?
    Thanks in advance!
    David
    Update:
I think I found a decent solution for this. I am using
MenuBuilder, making relative links to the executable files (link to
the file on your computer, then delete everything but the filename
to make it relative to the MenuBuilder file's location), and then
exporting the Menu Builder as an EXE file. This seems to eliminate
all of the dialog boxes... It works like magic from my computer,
but I haven't yet deployed it, downloaded all the files from the
Web, and then tried it. We'll see...
    Thanks for the suggestions.
    David

Thank you for the responses. Yes, I agree that the html/swf
will be the better option for us down the road - this is more for a
short term phase of our project.
We aren't accessing the EXE files directly from the Web -
they are downloading them to their own computers, along with the
html file we've created to launch the files, and then accessing
them locally for classes. We've developed a custom LMS-type of
application to host the files - the next version of that app will
let them download everything in a packaged zipped format, so we'll
use the html/swf outputs at that time. It was just too confusing
for our users to use multiple file types (swf, html, flv video,
etc.), when the EXE made it simple to download and use.
For the present, however, I'm still trying to figure out the
best way to avoid our extra dialog boxes... I believe the fact that
they are downloading the files from the web may contribute to the
problem, but I get the same message when I access the local files
I've created through an html link.
Any other recommendations, or does anyone have any experience
digitally signing Flash .exe files so that we could be a trusted
publisher? I'm hoping that this could be a partial solution - we
should have a valid certificate, but I'm not sure if I can do it
    with Captivate files.
    Thanks,
    David

  • I get an error message "unknown publisher" when I download quicktime 7.7 for windows 64bit

I am trying to download quicktime and I get an error message :unknown publisher".  I am using windows 7 64-bit operating system. Can anyone help me?

Which I get. But clicking on that link you provided does not give you the option of choosing between 32 and 64 bit installers.
Yeah, that was certainly a 32-bit installer file being referred to in the other message, too. (The 64-bit installer file is called iTunes64Setup.exe.)
Just in case it's an issue with your normal browser not working properly with the system-detection equipment on the page (there's a javascript control that checks for operating system specifics, and is supposed to deliver the correct Mac or Windows installers), let's try a different web browser for the download. If you use Firefox instead of IE (or vice versa), do you get offered an iTunes64Setup.exe instead of an iTunesSetup.exe?
