I cannot link text boxes in Pages 5.0 like I could in previous versions.  Solutions?

In previous versions of Pages, one could create text boxes and then link them.  This was very useful for creating multi-page booklets with proper pagination, without having to use an expensive publishing software.  Linking of textboxes is no longer available in Pages 5.0.  Does anyone have a work-around for this problem?

Pages 5 has over 90+ missing features.
Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Trash or archive Pages 5 (after exporting any documents back to Pages '09 format) and review it in the App Store.

How do you link text-boxes in Pages 5.2?

Thank you for your help; it is appreciated. I suspected that, but am still disappointed. I am finding myself getting more and more disenchanted with Apple products in the past few years. I've been a faithful fan, user and promoter since the 1980s, but I am starting to seriously doubt their competency in the past few years with the Pages 5 version as well as what iOS7 continues to do to my iPhone (as my prime examples). Instead of enhancing my life and work, Apple is beginning to waste my time -- a lot of it! Perhaps it is time for a change.... I don't want to, but I am starting to look for other alternatives.

  • Linking text boxes in Pages

I can no longer link text boxes in Mavericks. I have version 10.9.3 installed. It seems like this is a problem that should have/would have been addressed long ago. When I go to Format in Pages, the Add Link is in light grey and it will not let me add the link. Am I missing something....

You should be posting in the Pages for Mac community for better response.
The last Pages version that linked text boxes was Pages ’09 v4.3. Pages v5.2 does not have this capability, and only Apple knows when or if they will fix that glaring omission.
If you had the older mentioned Pages installed before (downgrading) to Pages v5+, it was moved into /Applications/iWork ’09, and remains a functional improvement over Pages v5+.

  • Having trouble linking text boxes in Pages on iMac

I can't seem to link text boxes so that text flows from one to another.  Has the process in Pages changed in the new update?  Any advice?  Thanks!

All versions of Pages v5 have omitted the ability to link Text boxes.

  • Turn off linking text boxes in Pages

I find the linking text boxes annoying because I'm always fighting trying to STRETCH a box and Pages wants to add a linking floating text box.
Does anyone know how to turn off this feature completely, so it never comes back on unless I want it to?
For a while it was OFF, and then all of a sudden I'm back fighting the linking text box feature when trying to move my text box where I want it.
Thanks for any suggestions or help!

    Pamela,
No, I don't believe that you can disable Text Box Linking. Just keep your mouse pointer away from the Link Handles.

  • Linking text boxes in Pages v5.5.1

My old Pages, '09, was able to link text in text boxes. I just upgraded to Yosemite, and then to Pages v 5.5.1, and now, when opening my old newsletters, the text boxes unlink, and I can not find a way to re-link them. I need to have text boxes linked in my newsletters. Help!

Gone, with over 100 other features.
Use Pages '09 it should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

  • Is there a way to link text boxes in pages 5?

The previous version, 4.3 allowed easy linking of textboxes.  This made creation of booklets simple, without having to resort to desktop publishing programs.  Does anyone know how to link in 5.0?

Feature removed by Apple along with a 100 others.
Pages '09 is still in your Applications/iWork folder. Use that.
Also rate/review Pages 5 in the App Store.

  • Does the Pages update include linking text boxes?

Does the Pages update include linking text boxes? This was a great feature in the previous iWork: Pages version.

I agree. The latest version of Pages is marketed as a huge leap forward, and indeed it probably is...
How so? It has a new coat of paint, Apple sells it as "New" and everyone thinks it is an "improvement"?
How on earth can you not notice or ignore what is so obviously wrong with it?

  • The linked text boxes are very important to my work flow. Not being able to flow text between pages has cost me a lot of valuable time in producing my newsletter. Any ideas?

In Pages 09 I was able to flow text between text boxes on the same page and to different pages but that seems to have gone away. This is one of the most useful items in Pages that I use. Now it seems to have gone away and I could find no replacement in doing my last newsletter, (which took at least 3 times as long to produce.) I am very disappointed in Pages 13 so far and look for some bright side to this software to change my opinion.

Apple has promised to bring back *some* features "within six montha." We're 4 months into the clock. They have brought back a couple of features (ability to cutomize the toolbar, for instance, and vertical ruler). But they still have a long way to go and there is no certainty that linked text boxes will be restroed. It wasn't cited in their original list of examples  of what would be brought back. (Nor was mail merge, bookmarks, Applescript support, or many other items.)

  • Does Pages 5.1 now link text boxes?

Does anyone know if the latest update of Pages released today (v5.1) now links text boxes or not?  I won't be using it unless it does and will stick with Pages '09.

It is a long list, but the last upgrade to give them credit they did more than they said they would.
The big problem is still the file format. That is not going to go away.
I also think the fKey shortcuts was the wrong method for the right idea and still is, particularly as by default the fKeys don't work.

  • Why dosn't pages 5.1 have linked text boxes

Pages 5.1 no longer supports linked text boxes. How do you open older files and reformat them without losing information?

Thank you, I've come to the same realization. However, I think I'll stick to Pages 09 all the way. Using both versions sounds like creating ground for a world of compatibility issues. As a veteran Pages user, Pages 5 is a sobering new release. It is a sad day.

  • Continuation message in linked text boxes

Can anyone tell me how or if there is a way to insert an automatic comment in a linked text box informing the reader that the article is (i.e.) continued on pg. 2 - or continued from pg. 1. Microsoft Publisher used to have that feature (may still) and it was very useful. I cannot find anything like that in Pages. What am I missing?

    iStreet,
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
You're not missing anything. It simply can't be done in Pages.
I'm not sure if you're referring to a bubble that pops up when you mouse over the text box or some other flag to alert readers. But I think you'd need to manually insert the "continued" text in the text box.

  • Linked text boxes - copy jumping

I am in CS3. I have a 60-some page document with linked text boxes. I copied and pasted text from Word (Office for Mac 2004). There are about a dozen paragraph styles used throughout the document. It's a schedule, with class title, description paragraph, location/date/time. I am having trouble with sections of copy jumping up to the next page. I cannot adjust by one line. Even if there is plenty of room at the bottom of one page, it pulls big chunks of copy up to the next. I've looked in the story editor and don't see anything fishy.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

First, pasting text from Word can leave a lot of stuff out. It's usually better to Place.
When you pasted, you probably pasted text only (depends on your preferences settings), so the text took on whatever formatting was present at the insertion point where you pasted.
That formatting probably had some Keeps settings that are forcing lines or entire paragraphs to keep together. Have a look at Keep Options from the flyout menu of the Paragraph panel. If you turn off Keep Lines Together, your copy should fill the page better. You might want to set it for something like 2 lines at start and 2 lines at end of paragraph, so you don't get a single line from a paragraph at the top or bottom of the page.
