I cannot locate my itunes files in imovie

Hi, I am trying to add some music to a home video i shot and when I select the desired song from my itunes, I receive the following error message.
The song "xxxx xxxx" could not be used because the original file could not be located.
I can easily access the songs in my itunes, but cannot in imovie.
Can anyone provide a solution for this?
Thank you!

This forum is for iOS (iPads and iPhones).
I will try to get this moved to the correct forum.
You might need to be more clear about versions.
What exact cersion or iMovie, OS X, and iTunes.

I have lightroom 5.7. Now I have apple TV to connect my Mac to the TV scree. I wish to do a slide show on the TV. However, on the Mac, using ITunes to share photos with the TV, I cannot locate all photo files. What is the best way to save the slide show and put it where the Mac sharing can find it? So far, I made on one folder in Lightroom, put some photos there and I found them easily. Can this be done with a slide show? Please help quickly! Also worried that the photos I put on the new folder are hard to find afterwards, when the show is done. Where do they go when I delete from from the new folder?I am not alone

Not that I'm aware of. You just export JPEG copies to a folder that you can point iTunes to. For instance, I have created a folder in my Pictures folder called Apple TV. And within that folder I have other folders of pictures that I can choose from in iTunes to share with Apple TV. But there doesn't seem to be any way to share a Lightroom slideshow. If you have laid to create a video file that would probably work. Apple TV is a little clunky in my opinion. Some things are a little more difficult to do now than they were a while back. I probably haven't provided you with much help, but just keep experimenting and I think you will figure it out.

  • Cannot locate original music file error message???

cannot locate original music file error message ??? i transferred to a new laptop then some of my music collection seems to get this message .

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Cannot Locate the Original File ? ?- Help Please

    Hi ,
I have Consolidated my Library to New folder on my External Hard-Drive. so i Know that all my music is in One palce..
I have a Problem, If i try and play a Track, It Now get a message saying Cannot Locate the Original File..& has this ! against the track..???
    What has gone wrong ?
    Many thanks

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat. Somehow I cannot locate over 30 GB of music that just disappeared?!
Moved the iTunes folder from my Music folder from the HD to my 250 GB external drive. I did not rename it. Kept it the same name. Went into the Advanced folder in iTunes Preferences and chose to use the external drive as my source for music. However, I noted that an iTunes folder always reappeared in my Music folder on the HD. Didn't realize that I had to Consolidate libraries until later on, but did so the next day as I attempted to figured out why it wasn't working ("cannot locate original file"). When I open iTunes, all of my songs and playlists are listed (I assume this is cache), but none will play except for a few random artists (most have "!"). When I go back and look at the actual iTunes Music folder, it has only these random artists listed (I assume these are the (only?) original files?).
Not sure where everything else went when I haven't deleted any iTunes files? I've read quite a few threads with this same problem without any real answers. When I use Spotlight to locate the original songs, I get zero found.
Is there any easy answer as to where my songs went or am I looking at taking this Mac in for some file retrieval.
Many thanks to anyone that can help.

  • XSQL-001: Cannot locate requested XSQL file. Check the name.

I downloaded oracle 9i and the latest beta of XDK for Java and
    encountered the following error:
Oracle XSQL Servlet Page Processor 9.0.2.0.0C (Beta)
XSQL-001: Cannot locate requested XSQL file. Check the name.
Since I am using JBuilder5, I configured the bundled Tomcat to
reference the XSQL Servlet as per the described docbase setting.
n.b.: I am not running a web or application server at this time.
Tomcat is my servlet container which I directly connect to from
    my browser.
I extracted the XDK into the oracle\ora90 folders. I extracted
XDK to my oracle\ora90 folder, since
the "bundled" XDK is located there already, and it appeared to
be lacking the XDK for Java.
I read the xdkload.bat, and it appeared to be required to
    resolve earlier undefined methods
issues as per the documentation, so I gambled and ran it. BTW,
unresolved methods was my initial problem.
The attached files describe a method not defined error. Not sure
    how to proceed. Thanks.

I should have added the associated Tomcat trace. Note the
exception, java.lang.NoSuchMethodError, which is possibly the
    real issue.

  • My iTunes account says that it cannot locate the original file for all of my songs.  My iPhone still has all the music and is able to play the songs, if I sync and backup my iphone will the songs be replaced with the empty copies from my itunes library?

So basically I tried to back up my itunes library to my external hard drive and when I followed the instructions and then went to play a song it said Orginal file cannot be found. It said that for all of the songs. I'm not sure how to fix what I did, I already tried consolidating and all of that stuff and it didn't locate the files.  I'm guessing that I somehow deleted the original songs along the way.  I synced my iPhone without knowing what I did and surprisingly all of the music is still on my phone.  So now that I've completely screwed up my iTunes account, I need to know how to get all my music back onto my iTunes account and have that library only on my external hard drive, not my computer. Everything looks fine on my iTunes besides the fact that it cannot locate the files but what I'm afraid of is me syncing and backing up my iPhone and then being left with no music because it syncs to the empty songs.  How can I fix this? and if I can't fix my iTunes library is there anyway for me to still be able to backup my iphone and all the music on it, without erasing my music?

Well I'm not sure if I correctly backed up my itunes library because when trying to open itunes from that back up it keeps saying original file not found. Okay this is going to sound confusing but bear with me.  I "backed up" my itunes, meaning I just dragged and dropped the iTunes folder into my external hardrive, and then I changed the destination on iTunes to open from my external hardrive.  It was working fine when I did that, however I did that just on my own, I didn't know about consolidating the files or any of that so I hadn't done that before copying the folder to my external hard drive. I can't remember but I'm pretty sure I deleted the iTunes folder after I had copied it to my external hardrive. So I did that and it was working fine, I was able to open my itunes with my external hardrive.  BUT yesterday I thought that I hadn't done it correctly because I didn't consolidate the files and all that, so I wanted to be more thorough and do that, I followed the steps to do that but when I did that I think it got all the files from my computer and not from my external hard drive so it basically didn't find anything on my computer because I had deleted them. And like an idiot, I replaced the iTunes folder on my external hard drive (the one I did correctly the first time), with the one I did wrong. So I believe I pretty much deleted all the music files from both my external hard drive and my computer. Please correct me if I'm wrong?
I believe getting all my music back on my itunes is a lost cause. BUT I still have all my songs and stuff on my iPhone. My question is, if I plug my phone into my computer and sync it, will it erase all my songs from my phone? A little more info, my iTunes still has the names and stuff of all my songs, they just can't be played because the files are missing, my iPhone doesn't need to erase and sync when I plug in my phone because it's already synced to my computer. What I'm afraid of is when I plug in my phone to backup and sync, will it erase my music because it can't find the files on my computer or external hard drive anymore? Or will it just leave the songs because they're already there (on my phone) and only sync the new songs that I've downloaded? I just need to know is my iTunes still going to be functional as far as me being able to backup my phone?
I have a lot of songs purchased from iTunes but a lot (like 60%) are from CDs that I no longer have. So re-downloading my music would only account for 40% of my library.

  • Itunes cannot locate the original file

The majority of my itunes library has little exclamation marks next to the songs, and whenever I click to play the song, a pop-up states "The song "name of song" could not be used because the original file cannot be found. Would you like to locate it?" and if I press yes, then I have to go into my music and then search for it. I was wondering why it says that after years of having itunes and most importantly if there was an easier/less time consuming way to locate the original files to play my songs.

    Hi, shopper2472.
The exclamation marks (and the accompanying note) inidicate the files aren't located where iTunes expects them to be. This is most often happens when the files have either been deleted or moved to a different location.
If they have been moved, the best solution is to get them back where they were in the first place. iTunes will be able to find them again - happy ending.
Sometimes though, it seems iTunes loses track of files for no apparent reason. In this case, your only alternative - other than finding them one by one and letting iTunes know - would be to start a new iTunes library all over again.
Regrettably, this method loses playlists and related information (Ratings, Play Counts, Dates Last Played, etc.) If that's not a deal-breaker for you, delete the current entries in your Library by highlighting them - iTunes File menu > Select All - and then right-clicking > Delete . You remove the entries from your Library but keep the files themselves in your iTunes Music folder, assuming that's where they are in the first place.
You can then add them back into your Library by selecting the iTunes Music folder in Windows Explorer and dragging it into the Library entry in the iTunes Source List (left-hand column).

  • Need help: Itunes cannot locate multiple missing files after renaming

All of music had strange names after transfering them to a new computer. I decided to use a program to rename all of them using a renaming program that renamed all of my music files based on their ID3 tags (Title, artist, etc).
Well now I went to Itunes and it cant find the any of the files (figured that), so I find one and Itunes asks if it should find more missing files, and hit yes, but it doesn't find any of the other newly renamed files. Is there anything I can do short of doing this for each individual file? Is there a way I can change Itune search parameters for finding missing files? Thanks

This is my standard post on the missing files thing...
I sort of assumed the third party tool wouldn't have put things in an iTunes standard form which is why I offered my scrupt at the outset. If you can explain how they are organised I might be able to tweak up the script to work for your layout too.

  • Defining location for iTunes files

How do I define where my iTunes files are stored?
I do not mean the music - I know how to do that.
I mean the files such as iTunes Library.itl
and especially the (hidden??) folder called iPod_Control.
FYI: On my laptop, the "My music" folder is on a network drive (at work) which means that I cannot use iTunes when my laptop is at home! All my music is elsewhere on the C drive, but the iTunes control files are not local.

    hi Ghost in the Machine!
just checking on some things before proceeding
    [My Documents]\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
where [My Documents] is normally c:\My Documents, but in my case is somewhere on a company network file server.
I suspect that the above path is hard coded into the iTunes software and cannot be changed.
are you getting a "the folder "itunes" cannot be found or created" message when you aren't connected to the work network?
do Security Policies on the network allow you to make registry changes to the PC?
(if so, we may be able to fix this for you.)
looking back at the earlier post ... the ipod_control folder should only be showing up on your ipod. if it's showing up on a network drive, it's a sign that there's a Windows drive letter confusion going on:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • Front Row can't locate my itunes files.

When I open front row, everything is fine except it doesn't locate my itunes. It says, "can't find any songs." I can't figure out how to get front row to recognize my library. Any suggestions?

i had the same problem and it happened after i updated my itunes to 7.6 (to support video rentals). what you have to do is make sure you have ALL the latest updates - including front row and OS X updates. as soon as i did that - everything was back to working order. you can update by clicking your system preferences and choosing updates. it will automatically inform you of any outdated software you may have.
    hope this helps.
    cheers.

  • About to cry...please HELP!  Itunes cannot "locate my original file"

I just purchased a song through Itunes. It comes up as a purchased song but when I click on it to play the song it states "The song could not be used b/c the original file could not be found".
I am not computer literate. I am pregnant and at my wits end and seriously on the verge of tears. The fact that I cannot get a Live Person on the phone to deal w/my situation is pushing me over the edge. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

    Please don't cry.
Try this: In iTunes, go to the Edit menu and select Preferences. Click on the Advanced tab, and in a box under "iTunes Music Folder Location" there will be a path to your hard drive that looks something like "C:\Documents and Settings\your name\My Documents\My Music\iTunes."
Whatever it says is the location on your computer that iTunes is trying to find your song. If your song isn't in there (which it probably won't be), it means your songs are downloading to another folder on your computer.
To find your song, click on the Start menu at the bottom of your screen, and then click "search." Click on "search all files & folders," and type "*.m4p" in the search box. This will search on all files on your computer that you have downloaded from Apple. You will find your song here.
What you need to do is type this address into where it says "iTunes Music Folder Location." Then it will know where to find your music.
    Good luck and cheer up!

  • ITunes upgrade cannot locate most music files

After downloading and installing the latest version of iTunes (9.0.2.25), most music files in my library cannot be found when I try to play them from my laptop library. I can fix these individually if I am willing to navigate to each of the thousands of songs, redefining the path for iTunes, but there must be a simpler way. Otherwise I never want to update to a new version of iTunes again.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Unfortunately I upgraded today my itunes to version 9 and now wish I hadn't! I have the same problem as the previous post where all my music library cannot be found...even my purchased items! I have read the previous posts and I am shocked and disgusted that this is allowed to continue. The amount of money Apple is making and it can get away with providing such extremely shoddy service is nothing but outrageous! Does anyone know if they have responded in any way to the problems that we are all having? If not, for all UK people, I think it's time for Watchdog!!!
