To put your iPhone back in jail do a restore.
This will put iPhone back into factory condition and you can get your updates (assuming you want the updates).

The iPhone is not a backup device. Your computer backs up the iPhone, not the other way around. What you use to back up your computer is up to you - Macs use Time Machine. I assume PCs use something similar.
If her PC backup is dead you will have difficulty extracting content from the iPhone since it is not designed to work that way.
All her Apple purchases can easily be transferred to another iPhone. However, her contacts will be gone, as will any music or other contact obtained from sources other than Apple.
There are a number of third party utilities that claim to be able to extract content from an iPhone. See wjosten's procedure here:

Just had to buy a new computer because ours died. Not allowing me to download my itunes from my ipod classic or my ipod nano, any ideas, don't want to loose it all?
In terms of searching i have searched for photos on my finder. However, none of the photos that appear are from my iPhoto Library.
Search with FindAnyFile. You can download it here: http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php
Search for any file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the name. If you added at least one image to your library, the library should contain a file with this name, see OldToad's post: Re: Since I updated to iPhoto 9.5.1, my library is not listed or available. KiltedTim- Yes, I have encountered an activation lock. The Apple ID should be the one that I use when I go into itunes but that one is not working. I even tried the Apple email/id I got when I first bought the phone years ago and that didn't work either. It is asking me for an id that ends in @me.com and I have NO IDEA what this is or how to get it to "shift focus" onto one of the id's I do know.

My phone does not want to come on pass the 'connect to itunes' logo on the screen. This happened after I was updating the phone software through itunes, and itunes said I needed to restore my phone if it is to work with itunes, which I did. An error (1015) box popped up and... well.... here we are. I have an iphone 3G. The support coverage is expired.
I just want to return to my phone functioning as before.Was this iPhone jailbroken?

I have an iPhone 4. I tried updating it tonight to iOS7 through my just updated iTunes. I received an error message telling me the update couldn't be completed. My phone then went to the screen asking me to connect to iTunes which can't see my phone. Help!!

Hi I had a simular problem with my iPhone 4 and iPad 3 and found that the USB connection on the computer was at fault so I moved the connection to a USB port on the Mother board.This curred my problem,see if ti works for you.
